Sometimes you may have gotten into a relationship before you knew who you were; your value, what you bring to the table, the way you deserve to be loved, and so on. But then you start to wake up to these things while inside the relationship and you begin to ask for better. You begin to refuse subtle forms of disrespect like being talked to in a condescending tone, being ignored and gaslighted, for instance. You begin to ask for inclusion and openness; you begin to expect recognition and latitude as a partner.

And suddenly your partner begins to say that 'someone has poisoned your mind,' or 'you're becoming crazy and difficult.'

Of course anyone who was used to your timidity will be disturbed by your awakening. They never heard you speak up for yourself before and your voice is strange to them. In fact they may have married you for that very reason; you asked for very little.

It was foolish of you, of course, to sell yourself before developing yourself. But this is the time you're realising it and it's the earliest time you can begin. And this may mean that the person will run away leaving you in a precarious position to handle things alone. But you also know that you can't go back to sleep so that you can keep a person. If it means reorganising your life to be on your own so be it.

But once you know yourself the freedom and wakefulness is worthy all the sacrifice.

Your problem is that you keep trying to take people with you to the top, people who don't even want to see you at the top. What you want for them blinds you from seeing what they don't want for you. You keep misinterpreting their malice for mistakes, and excusing their sabotage for weaknesses.

If you don't supplement your good heart with good judgement you will never get to where you're destined to go. Some doors are too narrow to take your clan with you. They're just meant for you and you must have the wisdom to go forth even without carrying everyone with you.

All my life, I had lived in fear-
Afraid of what others would think, of what bad things could happen or fearful that someone might not like me.
I’m done living my life that way anymore.
All it ever did was bring me worry, heartache and disappointment, and I’m through letting those negative feelings ruin my life.
I deserve more out of my life than I’ve been getting, but that’s what I’ve been allowing..
Letting people take advantage of me, partners to treat me without respect and letting negativity ruin my dreams.
All of that ends here and now.
I’m taking back my life and owning my choices.
I’m done being a victim and no longer will I allow anyone to treat me like a second class person.
This is my life and I demand more.
More love, more light, more hope, more freedom.
I’m not going to live dreading the next disappointment and I refuse to listen to those people who don’t have my best interest at heart.
The ones who really love me accept me as I am and will love me regardless of the choices I make.
I’m walking away from the selfish suitors, takers and all the people who try to put me down to make themselves feel better.
You know what?
I don’t have it all figured out right now, other than I know that I won’t accept my life the way it is any more.
I’m going to open my mind to the possibilities and close my soul to the negativity.
I realize now that whatever happens to me is by my choice..and I choose to stand strong,
No matter what life throws at me.
I know there will still be days that bring me to my knees and nights when I want to cry..
But those times are no longer going to define me.
I’m going to get stronger, better, wiser.
It won’t be painless and it won’t be fast, but it’s the best thing I will ever do for myself.
I’m going to surround myself with the people that believe in me and I refuse to accept failure any longer.
I’ll still stumble and I’ll still make mistakes, but that’s just part of my growth.
Bad hair days, cranky moods and crying in the shower will still be part of my beautiful brokenness..
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’ve been down a hard road and survived a tough past, but I’m right where I’m supposed to be..
It’s up to me to recognize the opportunity and seize my chance to evolve and rise again.
Call me broken, call me difficult, call me hard to understand..
It doesn’t really matter to me.
Because what no one will ever call me again..
is afraid.
My time, my choice, my victory.
Rise or fall, rain or shine..
I’ll finally be able say I did it my way.
