Kendell Cummings, a college wrestler from Northwest College in Wyoming, showed remarkable bravery in 2022 when he fought off a grizzly bear to save his teammate, Brady Lowry. The incident occurred during an antler hunting trip in the Shoshone National Forest. On October 15, 2022, the two were separated when a grizzly bear attacked Lowry, breaking his arm. Realizing the threat, Cummings immediately intervened, distracting the bear and pulling it away from Lowry.
In the process, Cummings suffered severe injuries, including deep wounds to his head, face, arms, and legs. His heroic actions allowed Lowry to escape and seek help. Both wrestlers were rescued and underwent surgeries for their injuries. Cummings was later awarded the Carnegie Medal for Heroism, recognizing his courage and selflessness in saving his friend
