A Cebu Pacific flight bound to Manila on Saturday morning had an emergency landing back to Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) due to “landing gear issues.”

There were 162 adults and one infant during the flight.

In a Facebook post of Remton Siega Zuasola, it said “BRACE FOR IMPACT — Just survived an emergency landing due to landing gear failure. Shaken but all is fine. Daghang Salamat Ginoo!”

Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority assistant general manager Atty. Glenn Napuli and MCIAA Public Affairs division manager Mary Ann Dimabayao said as a matter of protocol, Cebu Pacific, will issue an official statement on the incident.

According to some passengers, they were told to “remove sharp objects from your body, place hands behind your head and brace for impact.”

Reports said that the aircraft has to fly over MCIA to possibly consume the fuel and prevent the aircraft from catching fire upon impact… passengers started crying.”

Initial report from MCIAA’s Nerve Command Center disclosed that the aircraft’s censor cannot detect that the landing gear malfunctioned.

The Nerve Command Center then advised the aircraft to fly around twice and when it reached Barangay Basak in LapuLapu City, the three aircraft wheels opened that made the emergency landing.

CHECK THE CAPACITY OF YOUR POWER BANK BEFORE BOARDING! ✈️
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced that all power banks exceeding 160 watt-hours are strictly prohibited on both international and domestic flights.

Power banks with a capacity of up to 100Wh may be brought onboard without prior approval.

However, those between 100Wh and 160Wh require airline approval, while power banks exceeding 160Wh are strictly prohibited on aircraft.

CAAP strongly urges travelers to check the capacity of their power banks and comply with airline policies to avoid inconvenience during their flights.

Japanese scientists, led by Dr. Katsu Takahashi, are working on a new treatment to help people regrow teeth. They are preparing for the first human tests at Kyoto University Hospital. The treatment blocks a protein called USAG-1, which stops extra teeth from growing. Studies show that humans have the potential for a third set of teeth, but they usually don’t develop. Around 1% of people naturally grow extra teeth, which researchers think is linked to this ability.

In tests on animals like mice, ferrets, and dogs, the medicine helped new teeth grow without major problems. The first stage of human testing is checking if the medicine is safe for adults missing a tooth. The next stage, planned for 2025, will focus on young children born without some teeth. If successful, this treatment could provide a new option besides dentures and implants, possibly becoming available by 2030.

PSA Assistant Secretary Divina Gracia Del Prado told a news conference that an estimated 2.16 million Filipinos were out of work in January, higher than the 1.63 million in December last year.
"(The government's) strategy remains clear: to sustain job creation by fostering a dynamic and investment-friendly economy while preparing our workforce for high-growth and emerging industries that offer high-quality, well-paying jobs," National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said.
PSA data showed that unemployment rate in 2024 was 3.8 percent, or 1.94 million Filipinos, the lowest since 2005
