Last Thursday, our Managing Director Martina Candillo represented VIECON at the Brussels Association Dinner, hosted by the Vienna Convention Bureau under the motto “Vienna Bites – Taste the City!”

The evening celebrated Vienna’s unique spirit through an 8-course menu, with each course presented by one of Vienna’s leading MICE partners. Our contribution? Wild Berry Sorbet with Honey & Lemon Thyme – a refreshing, surprising and layered dish that symbolises VIECON: where fresh ideas meet enduring values, where innovation refines tradition, and where every detail comes together in harmony.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Vienna Convention Bureau for staging such a memorable evening, we were proud to add our “flavour” to the mix! ❤️

🌿 From wild weeds to blooming beauty: Our courtyards are ready for their close-up! 👉 Swipe through for some satisfying before-and-after shots!

VIECON’s ten inner courtyards have always been a favourite retreat for congress participants. A place to step outside, take a breath, and recharge.

But over time, the greenery had become a bit too wild. So it was time for a well-deserved makeover.

Over the past few months, we’ve dug, planted, pruned, and watered with care. The result? Our signature wave-shaped garden beds (inspired by the nearby Danube) are now visible again and slowly coming into full bloom.

The plants and grass still need some time to grow, but soon we can offer a green oasis in the middle of a buzzing event venue, ready to welcome organizers and guests alike. We love it! 💚

🌊 Ever noticed the wavy floor in front of VIECON? It’s not just a stylish detail, but a tribute to the Danube!

Designed by Austrian architect Paul Katzberger, the “Donauwelle” slabs are 30 cm thick, weigh around 100 kg each, and reflect Vienna’s iconic river that flows just a stone’s throw from our venue.

Yes, they’re huge and yes, we keep a few spares just in case 😅

🎓 15,668 dreams, one exam, zero room for error.

On July 4, the MedAT 2025 – Austria’s nationwide entrance exam for human and dental medicine – brought together 15,668 applicants across four universities.

At Medizinische Universität Wien alone, 7,729 candidates took their seats at VIECON – Vienna Congress & Convention Center. Behind the scenes? Months of preparation and thousands of moving parts.

📐 The setup, by the numbers:

▪️7,740 tables and chairs, precisely positioned in just 3 days

▪️11 entrances coordinated via detailed access planning

▪️100+ security personnel, police dogs & metal detectors

▪️100 student staff guiding flows, 55 staff managing cloakrooms

▪️Over 10,000 steps clocked before 9 a.m. each by our project lead Thomas Miemietz and technical event manager Michael Gruber.

From security and transport to crowd flow and climate control every detail was choreographed with care. MedAT isn’t just an exam, it’s a logistical masterclass.

💡 Massive respect to our onsite crew and all partners involved. Once again, this event proves: at VIECON, precision and teamwork make extraordinary things possible.

🦎 Fact Friday – straight from the top (literally)!

Did you know? The VIECON Tower stands 95 meters tall, making it about 12 meters higher than the historic Rotunde, which once stood on this very site.

At the time, it was by far the largest dome in the world (diameter 108 m). Unfortunately, the building fell victim to a major fire in 1937.🏗️📏

Last night, our Sales colleague Nicole Poeltl had the pleasure of attending “An Evening with Vienna – Culture, Conversation, Connections” at The Pergola, an exclusive members club in Covent Garden. 🇬🇧

Hosted by the Vienna Convention Bureau and Axis Travel Marketing, this elegant gathering brought together event pros from across the UK and Viennese MICE partners – all united by a passion for unforgettable experiences.
