Today was about playing with colour and texture at our Creative Contemporary workshop. Our guests were invited to slow down and immerse themselves in the process of creating a gorgeous composition from a fabulous selection of seasonal goodies.We mixed ornamental kale with tulips, carnations, red hot pokers, snapdragons, sky blue delphinium, gold dust leaves, textural green swan pods and yes even an orange. As much as it was flower arranging it was also a peaceful exercise in self care, allowing ourselves time to just be and engage with the best of nature. If you love the size and fullness of reflexed roses but struggle with them looking a bit stiff and knobby, here are some hot tips for you to achieve a more natural, full-blown garden rose look: 🌹buy your roses at least 2-3 days before you need them, they’ll soften a bit so the petals are less likely to split when manipulated. If there’s no time for that, leave them out of water for a couple of hours 🌹 choose roses that reflex easily. Some varieties will resist the reflex and the less you have to fight them the more happy they’ll look 🌹 turn the stem upside down and give it a good spin to begin the opening process 🌹 gently push your thumb to the very base of each petal’s underside with two fingers on the inside, stroking outwards. Repeat this until you reach the clustered centre 🌹 tease out those tight centre petals very lightly from the base and blow firmly in the centre to encourage it to relax and reveal its inner beauty 🌹 cut the stem on a sharp angle and place in water to drink up and set those petals in position 🌹enjoy the transcendent beauty of roses in full bloom! . . . . #reflex #roses #reflexedroses #infullbloom #shimmer #openroses #gardenroses #simplebeauty #floristtipsandtricks #thewestendflowerschool
