As I sat in my car in my garage, about to head off to pick up Sadie from day care, I saw an email come through from the Marriage Law and Celebrant Section...an update about the remote signing of the NOIM... I was disheartened, I thought it might have been my registration approval.
Then a second one came through...and all I could see was the start 'Dear Mrs Cougan I am pleased to inform you'...my eyes welled and my hands were shaking as I opened it, I had waited 1079 days for this email (no joke, it was 1079 days). After taking on a job that was way more hours a week than first indicated, renovating a house, 2 extensions (because life), moving house, having a baby, a re-enrolment when Sadie was just 5 days old (yes, my trainer thought I was crazy), 12 fake ceremonies, 27ish videos (with belly laughs, tears and cheers), 3 ceremonies conducted for friends and family where I was supported by amazing registered celebrants (who have now become friends), I finally got it.
My registration as a Registered Marriage Celebrant. It had arrived.
If there is one thing I know for sure, it's that the words of Joan of Arc ring in my head, 'I am not afraid...I was born to do this.' It was a lot of work, there were tears, tantrums, hugs and lots of late nights and early mornings, but I was determined to get it done, because I love telling love stories, I love telling life stories.
So if someone you know is planning a wedding, or a proposal, or a farewell of a loved one, please keep me in mind, I would love to take care of one of the most important moments of your life.
And if you've read this far, thanks for coming to my KimmyTalk, now head over to my website and check it out! It's a work in progress and there's lots of content coming. The link is in my bio. Kimmy xx
