Happy 1st Anniversary to these two complete legends.

Bec & Tom trusted me with their love story before I was a registered celebrant, so I reached out to to see if sheā€™d come along to do the official paperwork at their ceremony at Boreen Point on the Sunshine Coast. Itā€™s pretty safe to say that this industry is one of the best, Anna and I met before Bec & Tomā€™s big day, had lunch in our home in fact, learned about each other, I picked her brains a bit about wedding stuff and I had the privilege of delivering Bec & Tomā€™s ceremony with Anna cheering me on.

Bec & Tom met at a ā€˜Jā€™ themed party and talked for hours sat with their feet in the pool and the rest is history. I read a poem by called ā€˜The Truth About loveā€™ and it was perfect, as theyā€™d been together 10years before they said their ā€˜I doā€™s. Theyā€™ve traveled the world, even in a van in Canada (if you can do that, Iā€™m pretty sure your relationship can stand anything!), theyā€™ve bought a family home for them and their beloved pooch Yuki and theyā€™ve got a lifetime of memories left to create.

CHEEEEESE!!!

I always ask my couples when I interview them if theyā€™re happy to get a selfie with me at the end of their ceremony. The funny part about this was I gave their guests 10 seconds after my unplugged announcement at the beginning of the ceremony to snap a quick quick picā€¦and then proceeded to tell them if anything went on social media before the new Mr. and Mrs. Bailey had a chance to do it themselves, the bill for the day would be going to them.
Iā€™m glad everyone listened, because then it meant they could all be present, truly present and not watching the ceremony through a screen, which made my sassy unplugged announcement at the start all worth it.

Have you thought about if youā€™d like an unplugged ceremony? I do think that if youā€™re paying a professional photographer thousands of dollars to capture you and your guests, then youā€™re probably not going to want photos of your guests watching you on a screenā€¦I donā€™t know about you, but thereā€™s something really significant about being fully present in a moment when two people are committing to spend the rest of their lives together that just makes me feel like you should put your phone down.

Happy 1st Anniversary Carlie & Wayde!

Before I was a registered Civil Celebrant, there were a handful of couples who entrusted me with the very important job of sharing their love story with their family and friends. I was lucky enough to have their faith in me to do this for them and what an honour is was.

Carlie & Wayde were one of those couples and sharing their love story, at their engagement party turned wedding, was so special!

This will be the first of many anniversaries for you two, what you have is really special! šŸ’–

Love isnā€™t just words. It is actions. It is feelings. It is that ā€˜knowingā€™.

You know that saying ā€˜when you know, you knowā€™? It can either hit you like a lightning bolt or be that little voice that says ā€˜you know this feeling and you have to trust itā€™.

Iā€™m marrying a couple soon, who had that feeling of ā€˜oh, this is what love isā€™. It was their actions towards one another, their support of one another and their gut feeling about one another. They felt considered when the other made decisions. They felt taken care of by the other. They felt ā€˜at homeā€™ with one another. Now that, is love.

| once in a lifetime love |

If thereā€™s one thing I know for sure, itā€™s that love like Rob & Nikā€™s, is once in a lifetime love. Itā€™s worth celebrating and celebrate they did! 25 years after first exchanging vows on their wedding day, Rob & Nik celebrated their love by exchanging new vows and rings, surrounded by their nearest and dearest.
Rob first met Nik at the perfume counter in the cosmetics section of a well known department store. Nikā€™s beauty took Robā€™s breath away and it wasnā€™t long before he was asking her to marry him. He was met with a ā€˜noā€™, and the look on Robā€™s face is still etched into Nikā€™s memory. This didnā€™t deter him though, so he came back, a few months later, with a massive bunch of flowers and a beautiful proposalā€¦he got his yes. From that moment on, they have been inseparable, both leaning on each other, but cheering each other on respectively, so they can both become the best versions of themselves, together. They have two beautiful children and are surrounded by the most incredible ā€˜framilyā€™. My heart absolutely burst delivering their love story.

Thank you for having me & you truly are what so many aspire to be. And I hope you continue to find one another, like the river finds the sea.

ā€¢ Alex & Michael ā€¢ 21 Oct 23 ā€¢

I remember these two in their early days, hanging out in the pool at Caloundra where we all used to stay together for the Music Festival. They were cute, their interactions were gentle and kind. They were young, but had that ā€˜oldā€™ love.

It felt like I was visiting family when I arrived for their ceremony.

By the time you say your ā€˜I doā€™s, we feel like family. Having the privilege of hearing your love story and then sharing it with your nearest and dearest is a pretty special gig and one that I donā€™t take lightly.

There is something really special about getting to marry couples who youā€™ve watched grow up together

This is my fave way of choosing your witnesses to sign your paperwork! Bianca & Dylan ended up with two very special friends to sign with them.
As long as your witnesses are over 18 theyā€™re good to go!

How did you choose your witnesses?

| Rainbow |
There will come a day,
when the sun will shine upon your face.
And with your eyes closed,
the warmth will feel as though it soaks through your skin and all the way down into your core,
the place where you hold your intuition,
your feeling,
your knowing,
your memories.

All of a sudden, you feel it.
The sting, the heavy, the weight as it sits in the pit of your soul.
It resides in a place here, within you.
Deep down.
Safe.
Safe, where you can protect the memories.
Protect them from the grief, the shame, the hurt.
Even if those memories hold those same feelings with them.
Then you remember as you take a deep breath,
the air filling your lungs,
the special little person who knows you feel the warmth of the sun.
They sit with you.
When they're not with you, they sit on the rainbow,
watching you,
with a gentle smile,
as your life unfolds through the chaosā€¦
all the while, holding those memories close.
They know how brave you are.
They know.
They see you.
They feel you.
They know.

National Rainbow Baby Day

Even though I missed this by a couple of days, last night I sat and wrote these words, as I want to acknowledge those in our community who have faced this reality. I want to acknowledge those who maybe don't have their rainbow baby yet, or those who are yearning for their rainbow baby to arrive. Everyone's grief looks and feels different and no way can possibly be the 'right way' when you can't tell which way is up. You are loved. They are loved.

I was sitting in the carpark at Bunnings and my messenger ā€˜dingedā€™ā€¦Amberā€™s name came up. We were attending her wedding the following weekend at and I thought she was just letting me know something.

Her message read, ā€˜Kimmy, have you finished your study yet?ā€™. Hereā€™s me, thinking she wanted to recommend me to one of her friends who were getting married. Nopeā€¦she wanted me to conduct her ceremony, as the lovely had to be with her family during a really tough time and couldnā€™t be in two places at once. Family comes first and I totally empathised with this. Amber was panicked, obviously, it was the week of her wedding, so I said ā€˜leave it with me, Iā€™ve this, Iā€™ve got youā€™.

I searched for a wedding celebrant on the Gold Coast who looked to bring the same kind of vibe as me. Cue the amazing . I sent Michelle a voice clip, explaining the situation and that I would be so grateful if she could come along to do the legal bits and pieces. She agreed and I met her on the day with a smile, a hug and a bottle of champers to thank her for her last minute support.

Kellie had written the ceremony into the most amazing poem that told the story of Charlie & Amberā€™s love. I made a few tweaks on either side of it, so it sounded like the way I speak. I acknowledged Kellie and we all sent our thoughts to her on the day.

This was the first of many ceremonies I would deliver prior to my registration coming through. A lot were assignments (read as: fake ceremonies that felt real and included the same amount of love and effort put into the writing process). The story of the next one will come, so stay tuned for that.

So grateful you trusted me to stand with you and deliver your love story Amber and Charlie. It was a baptism of fire and I wouldnā€™t have had it any other way.

Today Iā€™m celebrating my very own wedding anniversary with this hunk-a-spunk, my husband, Dan. Itā€™s a pretty amazing feeling when you find your person and you get to sign a piece of paper that signifies that you get to love (annoy) them for the rest of your life.

Celebrating a coupleā€™s love, by sharing their love story during their ceremony is by far my favourite part of the ceremony. Of course thereā€™s the vows and the legal bits, but thereā€™s something special in the details of how they ended up there. Itā€™s the journey, ya know?

How is it possible to fall more in love with your partner over the years?

To keep choosing them. Every single day.

Whatā€™s your secret to a successful relationship?

| NOW TAKING BOOKINGS!! | *insert happy dance here*

As I sat in my car in my garage, about to head off to pick up Sadie from day care, I saw an email come through from the Marriage Law and Celebrant Section...an update about the remote signing of the NOIM... I was disheartened, I thought it might have been my registration approval.

Then a second one came through...and all I could see was the start 'Dear Mrs Cougan I am pleased to inform you'...my eyes welled and my hands were shaking as I opened it, I had waited 1079 days for this email (no joke, it was 1079 days). After taking on a job that was way more hours a week than first indicated, renovating a house, 2 extensions (because life), moving house, having a baby, a re-enrolment when Sadie was just 5 days old (yes, my trainer thought I was crazy), 12 fake ceremonies, 27ish videos (with belly laughs, tears and cheers), 3 ceremonies conducted for friends and family where I was supported by amazing registered celebrants (who have now become friends), I finally got it.

My registration as a Registered Marriage Celebrant. It had arrived.

If there is one thing I know for sure, it's that the words of Joan of Arc ring in my head, 'I am not afraid...I was born to do this.' It was a lot of work, there were tears, tantrums, hugs and lots of late nights and early mornings, but I was determined to get it done, because I love telling love stories, I love telling life stories.

So if someone you know is planning a wedding, or a proposal, or a farewell of a loved one, please keep me in mind, I would love to take care of one of the most important moments of your life.

And if you've read this far, thanks for coming to my KimmyTalk, now head over to my website and check it out! It's a work in progress and there's lots of content coming. The link is in my bio. Kimmy xx

ā€¢ Happy 1st Anniversary ā€¢

Amber & Charlie were the first couple who entrusted me to deliver their wedding ceremony for them. Amber messaged me the week of their wedding, frantic, because due to some unfortunate circumstances, their incredibly talented celebrant (who wrote their entire ceremony as a poem, no less!) was unable to be in attendance for their wedding. Amber knew I was studying to become a civil celebrant and as Iā€™m not registered yet, I said ā€˜donā€™t stress, leave it with me, Iā€™ll find someone, weā€™ll make this work.ā€™
Cue me reaching out to Michelle to do the legal bits and pieces and who said ā€˜absolutely, Iā€™d love to help outā€™ and voila! We turned up on the day, shared a hug, did the thing and got them hitched.

And that, my friends, is what love stories are made of.
