One thing I like is the different structures of the smoke, almost like an x-ray of a bone.
While editing, try something different and ad a splash of colour.

So, This is something I haven`t done in a while. Photographing Smoke. Just a incense stick, Black background, Camera on a tripod, Flash down low in-between the smoke and background, Remote trigger and patience. You can get some very funky smoke patterns sometimes.
