Steven my husband and I first began our food journey with the establishment of Mahlzeit catering, our Brisbane based boutique catering company. We wanted to create a more intimate fine dining experience and support our Nation’s agricultural business by showcasing top quality seasonal ingredients in our menus. In September 2012, we welcomed our first baby boy into our lives. Harry was born 4 weeks
early and only weighed 2.1kgs. The first few months was a whirlwind of reflux, colic, breastfeeding issues, food intolerances, Hernia operations, helmet fittings for plagiocephaly and the constant recurrent respiratory issues. Sleep, eating healthy, and time for ourselves was definitely not on the agenda. Steven was left to run the catering company which was thriving in peak season, leaving me home alone with Harry A LOT! I lived on a diet of porridge, cheese on toast, and 2 egg omelettes until I was advised to stop eating dairy, gluten, soy, and eggs if I wanted to continue breast feeding. What was I going to eat! One night when I thought I could not last much longer Steven bought me home some Granola he had made to suit all my new dietary requirements. It was delicious! I was eating it for breakfast and as a sneaky dessert mixed with coconut ice-cream. Steven also stocked the fridge with ready-made meals he had prepared that simply needed reheating. At my most vulnerable time I was now eating healthy and able to achieve my restrictive diet for the health of my son. I had watched many of my friends and new mums I had met spiral into a sleep deprived state where cooking was the last priority. I realised how fortunate I was to have an amazingly supportive husband who just happened to be a chef! This is how Mummy Meals was created: chef prepared ready-made meals delivered to your home, these meals provide convenience, good value, and a meal everyone in the family will enjoy including your toddler. It has been a very slow process over the last 20 months launching the meals, we are still learning in our new roles as parents, we are also very excited (scared) to welcome our second baby in September of this year. We hope you enjoy Mummy Meals!
