There are so many things I have discovered since I had to go.

And I want to share this one with you - I want to let you in on the secret.

You see, I know you feel a sudden pull of emotions sometimes. Those moments when you lose composure and losing me hits you afresh all over again. And it might be at seemingly trivial, inconsequential times like when you’re brushing your teeth or getting into the car for work. Or at 2.30pm on any given Wednesday.

And you won’t really know why but you will suddenly remember me. Not that you’ll have forgotten me, but that I am - in that moment - all you can think about.

Overwhelmingly so.

Well, here’s the secret; that’s because of our heartstrings.

We are connected to everyone we love by invisible, unbreakable threads. And when one of us misses the other person, we only need to pull on those heartstrings to bring them a little closer to us.

Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes we grab desperately at the thread like a life buoy in a storm and our string is pulled so abruptly that it burns.

But it never breaks.

And I just wanted you to know this. So that you can be comforted by knowing that, in the moments when you suddenly miss me the most…

It’s because I am missing you too.

Today I woke and found myself
With less than yesterday
My life was missing things
I had assumed were here to stay

Things that had seemed little
‘Til they left a giant space,
Left an empty silence
And a longing in their place

And I began to understand
That when push came to shove
I longed for what I’d had
When I’d thought that was not enough

I’d always looked ahead
Was always chasing more and more
Growing so complacent
Of the things I once wished for

Running to tomorrow,
To the weekend, to next year
Forgetting I was lucky
For the things already here

And all this made me realise
That my life can’t buy more time
So maybe I should spend my time
Loving this life of mine

And maybe I’ll be grateful
For the little things I’ve got
That seem inconsequential
But which mean an awful lot

So, tonight I’ll thank the stars
Instead of asking them for more
And I will hope to wake with all
The things I’ve thanked them for

‘Cause now I see that my todays
Are filled with time I’ve borrowed
And I shouldn’t sit around and waste them
Chasing my tomorrows

Russel Ward’s book “The Australian Legend”, first published in 1958, describes the characteristic Australian bloke as:
‘A practical man, rough and ready in his manners and quick to decry any appearance of pretentiousness in others … a great improvisor, ever willing to ‘have a go’ at anything … though capable of great exertion in an emergency, he normally feels no impulse to work hard without good cause. He swears hard and consistently, gambles heavily and often, and drinks deeply on occasion.’

The quintessential laconic Australian bloke was Rick. Rest easy ❤️‍🩹

When someone you’ve known since you were young passes away, the suddenness of it brings back all the memories of times gone by. Today is one of those times.
Good times, and sad times, laughs, and tears for the loss that their family is heartbreakingly feeling ♥️ 💔
Will raise a glass and have a punt on an omen horse today in his memory 🍻🏇🏇

To his family:
“Be tender with yourselves and go at your own pace. One breath at a time is enough for now."

The symbol for a 65th wedding anniversary is the Blue Sapphire 💙
My mum and dad’s bridesmaids wore beautiful Sapphire blue dresses at their wedding 65 years ago today.
Much love to my beautiful Mum, and it’s another milestone where Dad is very much missed.
Celebrate the milestones, speak their name 💙
Happy anniversary Mum, and Dad, love always xoxo

I'm passionate about raising funds for Cancer research, as, like many of you, I've seen the horrific as well as the hopeful. So, my friends know I'm always up for a challenge and yes I'm adding "the swimming celebrant" to my many nicknames. I'll be swimming in relay with my team - 8 of us for 12 hours. I can't think about that now, I'll think about that tomorrow to quote my heroine Scarlett O' Hara from Gone With the Wind. Just thought I'd share my team's progress with you. Thank you to my sponsors and to my cheer squad bless 'em!

Re-sharing a memory 🫶🏻

This poem is one of my absolute favourites (and I have lots!). It was emailed to me many years ago by a beautiful friend who has since lost her battle to stay with us. But she is with me in spirit every day, and Jenny Joseph’s poem will always reminds me of her. I suggested it to the granddaughter of a 103 year old lady whose memorial service I was privileged to perform, and she said it was perfect for her Granny. I hope you like it too 💜

”When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.”

Our team is swimming for all those we know who are fighting cancer, and in memory of those we’ve lost too soon.
Today my heart is with my son-in-law’s family in Shropshire as they farewell his beautiful and talented sister, cruelly taken way too soon.
Swimming for life.
For Holly and my Dad ♥️♥️

I'm raising money for a cause close to my heart and would love your support.
