This bespoke poem is a few years old, but a favorite. Written for Mum and Dad for their 50th wedding anniversary
Through the Years
Mum and Dad celebrate 50 years of marriage.
In a little church in Blagdon
In October ‘58
Two people met to exchange vows,
A love to consummate.
An honour guard of rugby mates,
A daddy’s girl now grown,
Two lives had come together,
Now to live their own.
A few years passed their love was strong,
The time to spread had come,
And in July of ’63
There came their eldest son
The second, soon to follow,
Was in Feb of ’65,
And in July of ’66
The oldest girl arrived.
Now life would take a different turn,
Six weeks to a new life
Three little kids upon a boat
A husband and his wife.
In November ’67
They landed on the shore
Of Melbourne in Australia
And were Aussies ever more.
But life was not yet quite complete,
There was still room for more,
So in July of ’70,
Arrived child number four.
The dog was quick to follow,
And life was now complete.
The years passed by too quickly,
And the world was at their feet,
With kids now grown and married,
Home life had returned to two,
But grandchildren kept coming,
And the family still yet grew.
The love we’ve shared a lifetime
will continue ‘til we’re old,
And now, in this Olympic year,
We celebrate our Gold!!
