She met glorious women from differing backgrounds, many of whom are now good friends.
In 2013 Laurie started teaching Global Caravan Tribal Bellydance® to a group of enthusiastic dancers. She continued to expand and explore her dance form and attended workshops and intensives, these have included world reknown Australian and US dancers : Paulette Rees-Denis(USA);Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman(USA) and Megha (USA); Nina Martinez (Aus), Sabine (USA); Hilary Cinis (Aus); Jill Parker(USA), Madonna Teitzel(Aus), Oliver Kissel (USA), Devi Mamak (Aus), Alice Knox (Aus) and Sian Bhala (Aus). 2016 saw a change in dance studios and connecting with another teacher to form Lunadorn Tribal Bellydance offering classes and performances ever since.
Jodie English:
Jodie began dancing in my 30’s, starting oriental Bellydance after seeing ladies dance at a community event. I was blessed to be introduced to the Global Caravan (GC) Dance ® style in 2014 by fellow dancer Laurie Mackenzie from Lunadorn Tribal in Ipswich. Jodie moved back to Brisbane in 2017 and started teaching Global Caravan Tribal Bellydance as Silver Circle Tribal. The connection and grace of dancing as one with others in the tribal circle is just beautiful, as is the fabulous costuming.

Carla Wood
Carla has studied and taught FatChanceBellyDance® (formerly known as American Tribal Style or ATS®) for over a decade, loving the music and artistic qualities FCBD encompasses, but is especially drawn to the communal and supportive environment this style of dance encourages. After being mesmerized by Rachel Brice and the amazing fusion dancers in Miles Copeland’s 2010 Belly Dance Super Stars show, Carla began her dance journey by taking her first belly dance class with Belladonna from Bohemian Belly Dance (a popular Washington DC fusion artist whose classes are a mix of FCBD and tribal fusion styles). Through her, Carla fell in love with FCBD’s philosophy and everything related to this art form. Since then, Carla has taken classes with Rachel Brice, Mardi Love, Zoe Jakes, Suhaila Salimpour, and various members of Fat Chance Belly Dance School, including Australia’s Devi Mamak of Caravan Dance Company (formerly Ghawazi Caravan), whose FCBD moves (with flamenco flair) we’ll be focusing on in this workshop. In 2016 Carla’s love for FCBD style dancing led her to her new passion of the art of Flamenco and began studying under Simone Pope in Brisbane. Here she continually improves her skills by attending classes with amazing instructors both locally and internationally. Carla admits she is happiest when she is dancing both FCBD and Flamenco, and hopes to inspire the same enjoyment in students through her relaxed and professional classes.
Workshop:
Introduction to Dancing with an
Abanico (Spanish fan)
Incorporating a fan into your dance can add a captivating and dynamic element to your performance.
Blending her love of FatChanceBellyDance® (FCBD) and Flamenco dance styles, Carla will introduce you to the basics of fan technique & manipulation, which will be layered over some FCBD® Flamenco inspired dialect. You’ll then get to practice these moves for group improvisation, ending with a bit of fun, learning a short flamenco-inspired choreog
