Home safe & sound! Took 15mins off our clean up & get home for a sanity cup of tea,shower & debrief on what was another amazing New Year’s Eve lighting up the skies in Portland! Not one drop of alcohol consumed but boy I still feel like I’ve got a hangover! 3hrs sleep then another 4-5hrs unpacking & cleaning up our equipment so it’s officially always happy new year for us on the 2nd of January!

The countdown is officially on for our crew! Perfect weather conditions for us! Where did that last year go! After 13yrs we are still excited to be heading to the premier location in Victoria to bring in 2024! While viewing fireworks from restricted locations such as ovals is still magic! Absolutely nothing compares with the spectator experience at Portland! We can & do launch the largest shells with a 6inch diameter over Portland Bay! The cliffs light up & for us nothing makes the lead up preparations more worth it than the thunderous applause & cheers from the crowds! We have taken care of our much loved Milo from the small local show while we are in Portland so please be mindful of where your pets are tonight! Belinda

Today I rest after what has been a surreal & intense 10 days behind me! Tomorrow I’m helping out hubStar Southern Star Fireworks set up his 2 massive fireworks show in Portland! Nothing compares to these shows in regards to spectator experience! We are going into our 14th year and we never get tired of the magic of having the ocean surrounding & the natural amphitheatre the cliffs have to offer! I absolutely love everyone’s photos from our shows! I will be watching & taking my own videos from the grass area behind the visitor info centre & a sneaky swim from the boat ramp if the sun is out! Today is my happy New Year’s Eve Eve lol!

Head down to the carnival and enjoy TWO fireworks displays at 10pm and midnight.
We’ve got delicious food serving until late and rides to suit all ages.

Behind the scenes! 9.00am start with onsite safety induction! We have a pyrotechnic specific 45 page safety procedures document & comply with a rigorous work safe compliance procedure which involves prior specialist storage of the fireworks (dangerous goods) in our licences storage facility! So basically no storage in damp sheds in a backyard! Transport of fireworks is also regulated as it should be! I (Belinda) have completed a 9 day OHS hazard analysis course just prior to covid! We have our CFA approved fire permits for tonight! We also have to pay the Australian Civil Aviation Authority (CASA) a fee to be permitted to launch our big shells into the night sky! With scheduling for breaks we are still going 9.5hrs later! Maybe an hour to go now! But yea break first! Safety for our crew & spectators is paramount to what makes a successful show! Don’t assume we get paid millions like the capital cities because we don’t! However we love it! So wherever you are watching a small passionate small fireworks business light up the sky tonight in regional Victoria give them an extra clap and hurrah! Everyone’s insurance & cost of fireworks has skyrocked threefold so most of tonight’s displays will leave very little room for profit but will have a large margin for the love of this industry!

Every New Years is Spectacular for lots of reasons! This year marks our Tenth year lighting up the sky’s in Portland! I was told yesterday that the towns accomodation is sold out! The economic benefits of having the New Years Festival in Portland has built year after year! It is a premier event in a premier seaside town! Which now has a reputation of the place to be on New Years Eve! We are a small seasonal business & we love the artistry of what we do! We understand the current negative sentiments sweeping Facebook calling to cancel events but please consider that the people who choose this profession aren’t evil corporate moguls! Please don’t shame us for making a living! Don’t assume either that we get paid millions like Sydney & Melbourne! Happy New Year in advance 🙂

Looking forward to our next public event! Laternenfest in Tarrington! Friday November 29th! Awesome yearly event includes market stalls ,local food & German festivities! This is a real family feel good event and a great chance to view all of Tarringtons Hay Bale Art! Fireworks held on school oval after the lantern parade as the darkness settles! Save the Date 🙂

Very excited to be heading to the annual ‘gunning fireworks festival & trade show this weekend’! This is where all professional & licenced pyrotechnics operators gather & get the opportunity to see &buy first the newest biggest range of fireworks to take home to create all our awesome shows! 3.30am start today but believe us it’s worth every single kilometer we travel to get the best products into our shows for you all to enjoy!
