Ready to pen vows that will have your guests cringing and your partner questioning their life choices? Here are the three foolproof tactics:

✔️Location, Location, Location:
Choose the worst possible place to write your vows. A noisy pub during happy hour or a crowded train during peak time can really set the scene for vows that lack any romantic flair. And writing your vows at work is an absolute guarantee that they will sound like a business memo

✔️Mindset Matters:
Why not settle in during a moment of pure frustration? Writing vows while you're hangry or after losing a game of footy is sure to add a dash of discontent to your declarations of love.

Vows are said aloud in front of witnesses for a reason. The legal words create your marriage. The personal promises speak your commitment to your marriage.

While you may read your vows on the day, they should be written to be said, rather than read. There's a difference. When it is written to be read aloud what you say feels more natural, more personal. And the words have more power.

Throwback Thursday to Medieval Matrimony 💍🕰️

Ever wonder what it meant to be a bride back in the day? In the medieval version of wedding vows, brides promised "to be bonny and buxom in bed and at board." 🤔 Sounds a bit R-rated, right? But hold on, these words aren't what they seem!

Back then, bonny meant good and buxom meant obedient. "Bed" is pretty self-explanatory, but "at board" referred to the dinner table. 🍽️

So, being bonny and buxom was basically a promise to be a good and compliant wife 24/7!

It's fascinating to me that throughout most of history, and even today in places like Australia, marriage ceremonies often proceed without explicit promises between the couple.

Legally, a simple statement of taking each other as partners suffices.

What's a troth? You may have heard the word in wedding vows taken in church. You've certainly heard it in movies. But what does it mean.

"Plight" means pledge and "troth" means truth and faithfulness.

While generally not a word we hear in modern vows, the commitment expressed when couples marry today remains the same. Just expressed in more contemporary language.
