DJ Sophie Joy .:::. Curator of Jazzy Beats and Funky Jams Digs on horn stabs, jazz licks, a whole lotta soul and funky hip hop beats. She's also had her own show on local station RPP FM too.

Self confessed music nerd, Sophie Joy has been taking over stereos at every opportunity for most of her life. From being THAT person at a party who has 'just one more song' to play for you, to having actually being paid to choose music once upon a time as a programmer for Triple M Melbourne and Mix FM Perth. Funk, soul, hip hop and jazz influenced beats for the discerning music lover.

Balnarring Beach Camp was unreal! Definitely a camping trip which will go down in history with as that hilarious one where we literally forgot half our stuff!
All day at the beach and def got mega sunburnt but would come back and do it all tomorrow! So nice to be outside and in nature. 10/10 would recommend... more sunscreen next time and a camping things checklist 😂

The kids and I brought in 2025 at our fave, Renaissance Festival in the bush of Lang Lang. THE best family/kid friendly festival going. Super small, super chilled and filled with all your new best friends ♥️ Had the BEST neighbours ever! 🙌 Met a whole bunch of rad crew and besides my car flat battery when it was time to leave, everything was super rad and I had such a good time. Surrounded by people I love and all the good folk. 🏕️
Peninsula crew, this festival is only 50mins or so from home. So close and awesome and I would love to see you there sometime! Next one is Easter. Then there’s one in spring, too.

SOOOOO ridiculously excited to be playing at in Rye for the first time!! 😁 And super, super pumped to have been asked for some Lo-fi beats. I feel like I’m heading back to my roots with a mixed bag full of smooth, jazzy beats for you all! Probs expect some old school trip hop, maybe some dub, reggae, neo soul, hip hop… All of those floppy beats and catchy loops that you all know I go crazy for. ♥️

Ohhhh!! 💙 I love roller skating! Hot tip. The blue netball courts around the peninsula are the BEST! Smooth with no crease bits. This was at the Morno one (back when the weather was warmer!), but Tooters is good too and I haven’t checked it out up close yet but I think Red Hill also represents. Do you know of any other good places to skate that are smooth? I prefer to be outdoors than at a roller skating rink. How about you?

Well that was unexpected!!! What a bloody rad night!! 🤸‍♀️ When I got to St Andrews Beach Brewery there was some really nice house and disco being pumped by the staff so I had a good starting point. (I usually use the venue music as a starting place for my sets, often trying to match the tempo, vibe and sound and then I take it from there.) By 5pm we were totally pumping, the rad venue manager was telling me to turn it UP (that NEVER happens!) and next thing I know I can’t hear my headphones over my pumping tunes!! What an arvo!! For a 2pm-6pm gig I was not expecting that!! So legends, if I get another gig at St. Andrews Beach Brewery, you’ve GOT to come along and dance with me!! 💃

Our Story

Hailing from the Mornington Peninsula (VIC), DJ Sophie Joy is stoked to be bringing her unique sound to your ears!

A lover of big beats and funky bass, she’s got a mixed bag of delights for you. Funk, soul, jazz and hip-hop inspired beats and breaks, she’s quite fond of a good edit and mash up, too. Glitch hop, disco, house, reggae, dub… Her sets can head in just about any direction!

Weaving together all her favourite things - horn stabs, jazz licks, funky beats and soulful grooves, her infectious personality and positive disposition translates flawlessly into her DJ sets.

Having sold her soul for a few years working as a music programmer for commercial radio, she’s super pumped to have found her spirit home behind the turntables - spinning tunes that make her happy, the crowd happy, and keep the good vibes flowing, effortlessly.
