Ahead of NAIDOC week we are Honoring Our Heritage.
We are proud to share a special piece of our history. Our Director, Jacob Beattie, is dedicated to empowering future generations to prosper. Today, we take a moment to honor the legacy of a remarkable woman, Jacob’s grandmother, Aunty Ivy Bell.
Aunty Ivy Bell was a powerful voice for the Aboriginal community, contributing her perspective to significant events like the Women on Farms Gathering and serving as an Elder on the Swan Hill Koori Court. She played a central role in local NAIDOC Week events, truly embodying the spirit of community leadership and engagement.
In 2018, the NAIDOC theme ‘Because of her, we can’ celebrated the amazing women who have worked to strengthen the Victorian Koorie Community. Aunty Ivy’s story is not just one of personal achievement but a testament to the power of compassion, dedication, and cultural advocacy. Her unwavering commitment to social justice and community welfare made her an esteemed and beloved figure in Swan Hill and beyond.
Aunty Ivy Bell’s legacy continues to inspire and impact lives, reminding us all of the importance of looking back and acknowledging where we came from. Because of her, we can.
Something for everyone! The perfect curation of olives, cured meats, marinated grilled vegetables, nuts, dips, and cheese with fresh and dried native fruits. All sourced from local growers and producers. Perfect for sharing!

KEEP THE FIRE BURNING!
BLAK, LOUD AND PROUD
7~14 JULY 2024
Urapun Muy by Deborah Belyea
SAMUAWGADHALGAL, TORRES STRAIT
Urapun Muy, from the Kalaw Kawaw Ya dialect of the Top Wester Islands of the Torres Strait, means One Fire. The title of this work pays homage to Torres Strait islanders and Aboriginal people everywhere, as we all have that one fire: our passion for our culture.
“In this work, I have depicted the hands of our ancestors that have carefully dropped a burning ember on to a fire. This ember burns hot with Intensity, stoking the flames, as it combines with the now fire. The linear detail shows the energy and power as cultural knowledge is transferred from our ancestors to us today. Culture is the fire that gives us knowledge, wisdom and purpose. it is our responsibility to maintain, practice, Afterall, Culture keeps us Blak. Loud and Proud.”
Exciting News!
