A couple of years ago, I stumbled upon a product online that caught my eye. I didn’t buy it at the time, but the story really begins here...
In 2022, I was heartbroken by the news from a beautiful European country facing unimaginable challenges. I wanted to help but didn’t know how.
During COVID and the lockdown, I saw struggles I had never witnessed before. That’s when I started Hou Mei Homemade to bring comfort to people through food. Our Hong Kong BBQ pork puff pastry became a hit, but producing it by hand was a huge challenge.
After lockdown, I returned to my routine, but making hand-crafted food remained close to my heart. BBQ pork puffs were always on my mind. One day, I rediscovered the product I had seen years earlier. It was a dough sheeter—perfect for my production needs. I reached out to the owner, who told me it would take time, as everything was made to order. I didn’t mind; I trusted the quality.
As I waited, the sad news from his country continued. I hoped he was safe but didn’t expect much. Then, out of the blue, I received a text in a language I didn’t understand. After translating, I learned my parcel was on its way—from another European country! I thought it was a scam, but a professional confirmed it was real. I was overjoyed, knowing he was safe and had completed the dough sheeter.
When it finally arrived, I was speechless. I knew I paid for it, but the circumstances made it feel like a gift of hope. Thank you for your resilience and for keeping your promise during such a tough time. I’ll cherish this dough sheeter forever.
Technology may have helped connect us, but this is about more than just machines. It’s about human connection. If this isn’t love, what is?
