You hear a lot of cookie cutter advice in the business world.
We were wisely advised to make sure there was an end date to our Christmas Mini Film launch. There's a bunch of psychology behind it. It does make sense.

But when we lay our ear to the ground and listen to the stories circulating our communities at this time of year....finances are a tricky juggle. Decisions take time and thoughtfulness. Schedules are getting busy and finding time to chat with partners about these choices is increasingly challenging.

So in the spirit of communality and solidarity, we're keeping the doors open! Christmas Mini Films are open for booking as long as there are spots available.

Hoping the pressures stay to a minimum for you in this season.

🎄CHRISTMAS MINI FILMS ARE OPEN FOR BOOKINGS🎄

Today is the day!!!
Doors are open for Christmas Mini Films! These are in-home, candid records of your family decorating your home and tree the way you always would. I then weave the footage into a minute long festive music film.

You can do it in your matching pj's.
You can do it with your favourite seasonal music playing.
You can make paper chains as we go.

When: Dates are available between the 24th of November and 8th of December.
Where: The comfort of your home.

This year I'm going to be offering 🎄Christmas Mini Films🎄

It can be tricky to navigate the balance of the busy festive season and capturing precious memories. I wanted to create an experience that made this all much easier. An experience where you don't have to schedule time to get to a studio. An experience you can enjoy without having to pull out your phone to record it. An experience that includes the whole family (no missing Mums behind the camera!)

I don't want to add another thing to your Christmas to-do list, so instead I join you as you decorate your home and your tree, as you always would - and then we turn it into a festive mini film complete with music.

Places are going to be limited in order to ensure there's time to edit and deliver the films by Christmas. (I'm not sweating. You're sweating.)

I have a couple of surprises in store for anyone on my email list, so if you're not a previous client, you can join at the linktr.ee in my 'about' section!

Until then - put Sunday the 13th of October in your diaries, as the day doors will open for bookings to anyone not on the email list!

There are these longings that arise in us that call us into the fullness of living.
They're not always the point, but they are pointing. Directing us towards the wholeness of our humanity.

Lysette has no remaining Grandparents on either side of her family. I have two remaining Grandparents, one of whom resides in India, and the other in a nursing home. We often look at the armchair in the corner of our living room (which happens to be my Grandma and Grandpa's house), and sense that something (or someone) special is missing. Lysette has often voiced her desire to put an ad in the local paper to find a Grandparent to spend Christmas with us. To enrich our celebrations with a rosy cheeked elder who also longs for a family to spend the day with.

When Lysette and I met, I had almost never held a baby. If it wasn't for her nieces and nephews, this would have remained true until our own children were born. I often wonder what effect this has on my parenting, having rarely had the opportunity to nurture younger kids or even just be around them. I wonder at the unfortunate limitations of the nuclear family system, and how that's affecting our collective psyche and character.

It's no coincidence that my chosen vocation is built on a framework of multi-generational storytelling. These longings for generational diversity created an opening for me to create something worthwhile. Against a torrent of pressure to 'niche', I insist on capturing life in all its stages. From brand new life to the golden years of eldership - there is a place for everyone in Our Folklore. There is profound value in every story. In the crossing of each threshold - marriage, parenthood, business ownership...

This week, I've finalised the new web page for Heritage Films. If you know a Grandparent or elder full of stories, wisdom and the remnants of yore...this is the place for them.

Life. The very best most natural, humble, sweetest bits of life.
Play. Cook. Go mushrooming. Have a campfire. Read books. Climb trees. Tend the garden. Hug. Play music. Dance. Fold laundry.

It's not really about the things, but the togetherness. The story. Your people.

When I was rebranding the business a couple of years ago, I very nearly went with 'Jarrod Le Cerf-Emerson - Film + Photo'.

But it never felt right. It felt like it was missing the most crucial part of what this whole thing is about. It was missing the soul of these films and photos. It was missing the people.

This calling has always felt bigger than just my business. As a community, we've captured stories in love, business, family and culture. I often feel like a scribe of sorts - though I work in visuals rather than words.

The focus of this business isn’t my skill set or abilities.
It’s about us.
It’s about all the people I shared earth with for this blip in time.

Together, we're making records of life on earth, at this particular point in time. We're capturing all the ways we showed up, leaned in and made this place our own. Our Folklore is our collective stories. A place to see more authentically and deeply into our family cultures, business journeys, love stories and the tales of our elders. It's a multi-generational, inclusive affair.

It’s about all the stories we never see in an increasingly insulated world.
All the doors we never see beyond and all the things we never knew we shared.

It’s about both our unique differences and our comforting sameness.

This isn’t just my living.
It’s Our Folklore.

And I am so proud to share it with you.
And so grateful for what you share with me.

As an addition to your family film, you can choose to add your own voice to the mix. Maybe you have a poem, a message or a love letter for your children. Something they can cherish for years to come. We can record it and weave it into your film. The sound of your voice on tape for them, for as long as they need to hear it.

Here is one example of how it can unfold, from this beautiful family film in Gippsland.

These guys have had a new film made with each precious addition to their family. Now they have a little library of the evolution of their family in moving pictures.

Down by the seaside, I was welcomed over the threshold into this light filled home, to spend a cheerful day with these guys. It was joyful and warm. It was snacks and bike rides and yoga and cuddles.
