By harnessing the impact technological unity and cohesion has had on the music industry, Mental Response has established itself as an artistic platform defined by the limitless potential it seeks to promote; it is in essence, an innovative, tangible

and accessible technological arts-hub with a medley of jazz and electronic music at its core. Its mantra: that music is never out of reach; no matter your musical preference, age or experience, anything that generates a mental response within you is music worth making. Thus Mental Response is also a space to learn; a symposium of musical talent; a studio that allows people the opportunity to explore their musical mind. Mental Response thus seeks to facilitate the evolution of sound production by helping amateurs and experts alike, expose the nuances of sound that help generate a mental response within us all. Launching in December 2011, Mental Response will host a series of events and weekly residencies in and around Melbourne designed to workshop the impact Mental Response is set to contribute to the electronic music world. The range of exposure Mental Response has committed to is multi-fold, for it is not just about deep beats and ‘in-your-face,’ intense dance music. Mental Response is the subtle, smooth sound you will hear as you sit with colleagues in a quiet bar having after-work drinks. It is what you will hear on dance floors into the early hours of the morning. It is what you will hear as you sit with your friends having coffee at your local cafe. It is the sound that will stick with you long after it is gone. It is a genre of sound that is raw, unique, versatile and wholly new. THE MEN BEHIND MENTAL RESPONSE
Coming together in 2010 after years of working on their solo careers, two of Melbourne’s most dynamic electronic musicians Benjamin Rausa and Evan Necker sought to align their unique musical backgrounds on a single, common ground; one that would add a deeper element to their individual sounds. Originally on distinctly different paths, shared studio time between the two saw the birth of a new, shared ambition: to create a space for musicians that would allow for the evolution of a new kind of electronic music, provide an awareness of its composition and give purpose to its meaning. Amalgamating funk, soul, house, jazz and electronic music, Rausa and Necker are turning to 2012 as the time to dig deep into the soul of electronic music and bring all that it encompasses to the foreground of our sensory pleasure.
