I’ve just returned from an incredible trip to Rome, rocking @blanc.portraits for the most glorious wedding of two fine souls, @jimmy_raper & @sopsliep. James and I go way back as wedding photographers, and over a brief couple of moments we had some great chats about what has changed over the years—especially in how wedding stories are photographed, shared and presented.
As a cinematography fiend from way back, creating visual narratives has always been at the heart of how I approach photography, always mindful that each shot is a little puzzle piece in the bigger story. While some things, like the humble blog post, fade into the rearview mirror, new challenges—and exciting possibilities—emerge.
Meanwhile, back during those pesky lockdown days, I started making music, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. In the months ahead my goal is to get more comfortable sharing what I hide away and make in my bedroom. So, combine a trip to Rome, reconnecting with some old colleagues, revisiting memories of photographing @joanne.malatesta & salvatore.malatesta’s wedding in Rome some time ago, and a 2 hour bus ride through the Italian countryside spent throwing together a song - mash that all together and you get this video.
This was just a bit of an experiment but it felt good, and I’m excited to keep making these. Ultimately, it’s about adding a sonic layer and soundtrack to the photos that has been there all along. If you have 90 seconds to spare the I hope you enjoy.

It was a wildly surreal experience getting a last-minute call to be a photographer (and host) on an episode of The Bachelorette US that was being filmed here in Australia. The photographing was the easy part 🤪 It was so surreal that it was hard to put into words, so instead, I expressed it as my alter ego @manchyld_ 😈
A big thanks to the Bachelorette @jenntranx, legendary wildlife expert @wildlifexposure, the killer production team @bachelornation, and of course to the cast of fine gents for all making it such a great experience.

I’ve been captivated by light my entire life, before I even knew it. When the teacher was talking in class I’d be lost in how the sun would bounce off the canteen window into the classroom and sprinkle dappled light onto the periodic table thumbtacked to the wall (never did learn that bloody thing 🙄). What has really surprised me though as my hair follicles lose more pigment is how completely limitless the possibilities of light are - what the sun gives you, what you can make from nothing, how you can see it, manipulate and play with it - all variables resulting in vastly different dynamic and expression. The exploration and the learning is the funnest part. Knowing there’s no end point or finish line is pretty cool. Add a couple like Annaliese & Billy, grounded, present, full of love and connection and I’m not sure I could feel more alive in the simple act of making. While the scope is infinite, my aim has always been to bottle up some of the real-life magic that is often hard to grasp, to give to people as memory, nostalgia and legacy. It’s a great gig. I couldn’t be more thankful to be doing it.
