ew to this world of photography, but I am excited to show my photos as I progress and would welcome any feedback or comments to spur me on! I may also post other photography-related things that I find interesting and perhaps will encourage others to take up photography as well...

Something that I have discovered so far is that using a camera is like driving a car - much more fun in manual ;-)

A second photograph from the other night. The camera with a long open shutter picks up so many more stars we can with our eyes.
Looking up at the stars above makes my mind recall Genesis 15:5-6 - what a way to communicate a promise✨

Had a blast getting back out into the field with Justin's FilmScapes last night. We were both yearning for some stars and boy, did we find them! This chapel made the perfect foreground, illuminated only by the odd passing car. This photograph was obtained over 30 minutes of open shutter to catch the stars in motion, none of what is seen here was visible to the eye - it was pitch black!

Yuelarbah walking track, Glenrock, NSW
This was a fun panorama taken of this humble waterfall in the middle of Glenrock state conservation area.
It amazes me that sandwiched between city suburbs is this incredible park, where normally one would need to drive well out of town to see something similar.

Alone Time
I love to live in a place surrounded by towering gumtrees and for all the native wildlife that make use of their robust, twisted branches. This particular branch is rarely vacant - being a social hotspot for Kookaburras. The other day, this fellow had it all to himself, enjoying the rare quiet.

Last light
I've always thought, perhaps subconsciously, that the best photography experience is to be found during an adventure, where there is a tale to tell behind the picture. But, sometimes it can be equally rewarding spending time in the yard concentrating on and capturing the things we see everyday. It amazes me that even this sprout of hedge catching the sunset light can generate feelings of wonder!

A Forgotten City
I highly recommend taking a tour out to Tin City on the NSW coast. Buried amongst towering dunes are a handful of shanties housing a small community of folk getting away from the world.

Northern NSW

Cardrona Hall (best viewed landscape)
This photo is a blast from the past for us. The small town of Cardrona is a part of the wider Wanaka region in the South Is, NZ.
Travelling South-West from here takes one on the Crown Range Rd, traversing between snow-capped mountains before zig-zagging down the valley into Arrowtown and Queenstown further on. It is breathtaking.

Caravan
I shot this Camel Caravan (with the camera) up at Birubi Beach, north of Newcastle. With no cloud in sight and no signs of civilization - there is a real Mad Max feel here.

Eye of the emu
I've never noticed how intense the eye of an emu is - it is like a bright smouldering fire; amazing. Although beautiful, I'm sure glad for the fence sitting between this fella and me!

I've often (briefly) gazed at this boat when driving between Newcastle and Toronto and had an opportunity to get out to capture it on the weekend. I enjoy the exploration mixed with taking time to take in a scene that photography involves; I'm very fortunate to have this hobby 📷

Valentine, NSW
Taken after a rainy couple of days, there was a calmness here where the only sounds were waves made by far off speed boats lapping the shoreline and the crunch of wet pebble underfoot. And I am amazed at how there can there be such variety in the colour of these rocks.

On guard
A highlight of any zoo trip for our family is the Meercat enclosure. One can lose track of time watching these little creatures scurry about, digging for snacks - always being watched over by the guard on duty. How amazing!

Gostwyck Chapel, NSW
It's been five months of no posts here, so it is fitting that I share a photograph from a place that I have many good memories of visiting - first as a son and brother, and today a husband and a dad, showing my daughter this beautiful place.

Tree Isolation
Squeezed in an op to go out and take this photo before quarantine measures become tighter. Isn't it wonderful that despite the seriousness of our current situation, beautiful sunrises, sunsets and rains continue every day.

I hope everyone is following the example of these trees and keeping good distance between each other.

Peacock
If the bird realm was a monarchy, peacocks would easily be royalty. Royal blue with a crown of feathers, what an amazing part of creation.

This little fella is a resident of Blackbutt Reserve in Newcastle. If you live in or visit Newy, this is a great park to come for wildlife.

Another side of Milford Sound
If you ask someone about Milford Sound, no doubt the towering mountains that rise straight up out of the water and countless waterfalls are the first things they'll tell you about. Surrounding these mountains are lush rain forests untouched by drought, with air so fresh you can almost see the oxygen being produced right in front of your eyes!

Tin City, NSW
It's been a very long time since there's been anything new on this page, so get ready for a 3-in-1 post! Had an excellent opportunity to go shooting at Tin City on the weekend with friends as part of a Canon photo-walk - even though I had to sneak in my Sony 🤭
This place is surreal and is reminiscent of Mad Max, Star Wars etc, very other-worldly.

Milky Way
It amazes me how far one must travel to escape light pollution from the city! This photo was taken at Goosewing Cottage, Mount View in the Hunter Valley one hour east of Newcastle and yet light reflecting off the atmosphere still makes its way into this photo! Still, the stars are so much clearer out here and the sound of silence is deafening - it is beautiful.

What a way to start the day! Picked up at 5.15am by my good mate Justin for a photo shoot at Swansea Head. Perfect weather, didn't get wet, 2 coffees, beautiful landscape - so much to be thankful for! ☕️-📷-🌅-☕️-😀

Had a wonderful opportunity to spend some time in the Hunter Valley this week with my family. This photo of a native Pincushion Hakea was taken on the grounds of Goosewing Cottage - a fantastic escape from the routine of a busy, city-bound life (and to lose all mobile reception) and soak in the peaceful surrounds. I hope this photo provides a sense of that peace to you 🙂

Autumn light
Took a walk down Hunter Street recently - some amazing work happening there with the Light Rail and various developments that are really bringing life back to Newcastle's CBD. This photo captures the sun's light as it broke over apartment blocks only to be strained by autumn leaves
