It is with gratitude that The Lock-Up shares the news of the departure of Dr Warwick Heywood as The Lock-Up Cultural Manager and Director who has accepted an exciting new opportunity interstate.

Since 2023, Warwick has guided The Lock-Up, one of Australia's leading independent contemporary art organisations and in that time he has contributed substantially its creative impact and ongoing sustainability.

His key achievements have included securing additional multiyear funding for TLU from Creative Australia through the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy (VACS); developing Collect Focus: a dedicated platform to empower emerging regionally-based artists; bolstering the Artists in Residence program and facilitating research and production opportunities for over 24 resident creatives; presenting more than 12 exhibitions of contemporary practice including several major commissions; and finally, supporting over 350 artists and creatives through the broader TLU artistic program, solidifying TLU’s role as a vital hub for contemporary art both regionally and nationally.

Warwick's commitment to The Lock-Up community, across volunteer and Patrons engagement through to platforming artists and social issues via an impactful artistic program, has been outstanding and The Lock-Up is deeply thankful for his tenure.

Stay tuned for exciting announcements about our TLU team!

From Memory to Manuscript: a six-month memoir course with Ashley Kalagian Blunt ✍️

The memoirist’s lived experience provides the raw material for their writing. But how do you shape that material into something greater than a series of recollections? How do you craft a cohesive, compelling narrative arc from messy and possibly long ago events, and the quiet moments our lives often turn on?

Join bestselling author Ashley Kalagian Blunt for this practical six-month course filled with writing exercises, analysis of memoir texts, discussion and feedback. You’ll learn strategies for shaping your scenes, crafting your voice, and tackling the serious task of revision. You’ll also discover how narrative structure works when writing from real life, and how to balance the holy trinity of memoir – scene, summary and reflective narration.

This course meets once a month for six months, with a mixture of in-person and live-online delivery. It includes the opportunity to receive limited in-session tutor feedback as well as guided peer feedback.

📆 Commencing Monday 24 February
📍 Hybrid (a mix of online + in-person sessions)

TODAY’S ART BAZAAR CANCELLED: We have been looking at the weather forecast all morning and unfortunately due to the increased expected rain all day (has been raining already in all morning and heavier showers in the middle of the day) we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with Art Bazaar today at Lambton Park. Our diligent Art Bazaar co-ordinator, Kay, is currently at the park. The conditions will make it too uncomfortable for setting up, if we were set up and was only a drizzle we would have coped. We apologise for the inconvenience but we had to make the call to cancel today and will see everyone in December.
