Canberra band, the Gadflys (… of course they are. All 4 permanent members of the band grew up and went to school in Canberra), return to Murrah Hall one of their favourite stamping grounds since the band was formed 40 years ago when The road was dirt and hairy people turned up from everywhere and danced the night away.

Saturday November 23rd Murrah Hall
Sunday November 24th Robbie Burns Hotel, Wyndham.

Tickets for both shows available from our website.

A career highlight for the band was a 4 year stint on Good News Week as the house band which bought them to a wider audience and gave them an enviable platform to perform their original music in a broad range of styles ranging from skiffle to flat out rock.

Notable for their use of clarinet, double bass and violin and fronted by brothers Phil and Mick Moriarty the Gadflys have been out wowing audiences from Eden to Edinburgh since mix-tapes were popular and pub rock was king.
A new album, Love & Despair in 2020, saw them return gloriously to form with trademark tribal rhythms and cool bass lines, gorgeous clarinet figures flung up like water sculptures and vocal stylings ranging from the swampily gritty to a smooth croon, worthy of any sharkskin-suited lounge lizard.
With guest Gemma Clare on cello the Gadflys will be taking us on a journey that meanders through sonic landscapes far-flung and familiar. Musical magpies indeed!

Bill Kirchen is best known for his work in the late 60’s-early 70’s from the Cosmic Cowboy era with seminal band of that genre Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen. Responsible for hits such as Hot Rod Lincoln, Semi Truck and Seeds and Stems. Bill went on to have a solo career that has spanned 5 decades and is known as one of the founding fathers of “Twangcore”. Bill has won a swag of awards, is the self-titled “Kind of Dieselbilly” and was named “The Titan of the Telecaster” by Guitar Magazine. In recent years he has collaborated with the likes of Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe.

The Detonators were formed way back in August 1997 in Melbourne. This hard working quartet have never been afraid to hit the road, haul some kilometres and rack up a heap of gigs. With a finely honed array of original songs and a stage show that only comes from years of gigging pubs, clubs and festivals, The Detonators become crowned kings of Australia’s roots rock n roll. This show is a must see for any lover of roots music.

Today we are heading to Coledale RSL to catch Barber and the Holding Cell. Sunday Nov 17, 2-5pm

This four-piece blues rock powerhouse might just be your new favourite band.

Hailing from Victoria, the sound you’ll hear is bigger, louder, more energetic and driving than anything you’ve heard before. From the old school story telling and intensity of singer and guitarist Bill Barber, to the exquisite technicality and voicings of guitarist Shaun Klinger, if you’re a fan of the six strings The Holding Cell is what you’ve been waiting for.

The Spooky Men’s Chorale is a mighty, many-headed singing beast, and they’re turning the men’s singing world upside down. They seek to both celebrate masculinity and to mock it, while carving out new territories of mighty man sounds, exquisite tenderness, and charming stupidity. Now, armed with no more than their voices and an ill-matched set of hats, they’re rumbling down to the South Coast this November.

Formed in New South Wales by NZ-born Stephen Taberner in 2001, the Spooks have become rock-solid festival and theatre favourites in Australia and the UK. Their ability to find new musical rooms to explore contributes greatly to their astonishing fan loyalty. With seven CDs and 900 gigs under their belts, they’ve performed to total audiences of over 400,000.

But they long to visit the South Coast.

This show evokes musical worlds far beyond that suggested by their unassuming, casually-hatted, black-clad appearance. They are just a bunch of blokes, but where they take you will blow your mind.

The Bombie presents Bill Barber and the Holding Cell at Coledale RSL This Sunday Nov 17, 2-5pm.

Tix available now from www.southcoasttickets.com.au.

Hailing from the Victorian goldfields, Bill Barber and The Holding Cell are paving the way for a new blend of Blues, southern rock and Americana in Australia.

Forming in June 2023, Bill Barber, Tommy “back beat” Brown, Jaspar Austin Gray and Shaun Klinger were in a place musically and personally where they wanted to do something different. From the very first rehearsal that’s exactly what they had, different.

Aggressive, exiting and incredibly emotive. With the hard driving rhythm section of Gray and brown, heavily technical and soulful arrangements of Klinger and the Raw, powerful vocals and brutally honest lyrics of Bill Barber, the Holding Cell have created a unique blend of southern sounds that so far, has had them leave nothing on the table and no stone unturned.
