Those were Kevin and El’s words as we set up for the Nedlands Yacht Club Open Day this morning.

It’s quite a compliment and means I’m nailing my brief.

At Etta Mae, our signature style is classic, elegance with a modern twist, which is what we brought to this sweetheart table today.

Originally inspired by a ceramic pear my son made in art at school the rest flowed from there!

Enhanced by the beautiful flowers from Anna and this set up on the river is as magic as it gets!

Hello lovely!
We just loved coming up with this modern take on classic elegance for the recent open day at Montgomery Hall.

We wanted to step away from the big centerpieces and find a way to bring colour to the tables without it dominating the space.

An additional challenge was the fact you can’t use real candles in the hall! So rather than “make do” with with flameless candles which are sometimes a bit orangey for my liking, we thought outside the box and brought in these cute and stylish rechargeable lamps. (Which have now taken up residence in my living room!)

Here At Etta Mae HQ we love when we can multipurpose, repurpose and use items that can live on after the party’s over!

So the plants have been re-potted around the house, the books are on the coffee table, the gold parrot is in my office, and the salt stones in the bedroom.

*Occupation Tapestry*
Hello lovely!

Another fantastic part of the ticket entry into the Maritime Museum is the Occupation Tapestry Gallery.

In case you didn't know, Jersey (and neighbouring island Guernsey) were the only part of the United Kingdom that was occupied by the Nazi's during World War II. The islands were liberated by the Allied troops on 9th May 1945.

In honour of the 50th Anniversary of the liberation, the islanders wove this fabulous tapestry. It has 13 different panels. Each panel depicts a part of island life during the 5 years of the German Occupation and the experiences of the islands during this challenging time.

Each of the 12 parishes drew lots to select the theme of their panel and went to work showing a variety of topics including the outbreak of war, life during the occupation, the restrictions, transport, work and school, social activities, government, deportation and liberation.

The 13th panel of the tapestry was added in 2015 to mark the 70th Anniversary of the liberation. It captures the celebration of the islanders at the centre of lIberation day and how the people of Jersey continue to remember and commemorate the heroes and victims of the Nazi's.

This tapestry is amazing! I am so proud to come from an island with such a rich history and it is such a privilege to have grown up surrounded by so much of it.

*Jersey Maritime Museum*
Hello lovely!

The boys headed out with my dad today for some quality Pops time - a trip in his work van to run some errands and then to the local sports centre for a crack at Paddletennis - apparently to next best thing since sliced bread over here and in Europe.

That left mum and I free to explore the Jersey Maritime Museum

As an island, Jersey obviously has a rich maritime history, but one I hadn't really explored before. Fishing, warfare, pirates and smugglers it's got it all! We were really impressed. With bags of interactive elements, photos galore and artifacts recovered from shipwrecks, it was really cool to see how the island has changed and developed over the centuries, adapting to the times and challenges that it faced.

Did you know that the pier ladder at Bouley Bay is forty feet high and is only fully uncovered by the tides twice a year???? Amazing!

Definitely worth a visit!

*Christmas Shopping*
Hello lovely!

I love living in Perth and I love the hot summers we have...
BUT....
Shopping for presents in 35+ degree heat, in a maxi dress and flip flops is just NOT Chrstmassy for me!

So it was a real treat to be out and about in the island capital of St Helier with my mum and sister to do some Christmas shopping in the cold, fresh air, wrapped up in beanies, scarves and gloves.

We managed to pick up some travel friendly "Santa" presents for the kids, had a nice lunch at a local pub/wine bar and listened to a lovely brass band play Christmas tunes in King Street.

By 3:30pm/4pm it was starting to get dark and the Christmas lights began to twinkle!

The day finished with a trip to the to watch a local production of Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass (thanks to my sister for taking us all. Not the traditional pantomime we were hoping for whilst we were here, but an entertaining evening non-the-less.
