ELIASON AND HALLETT CLAIM STATES SERIES!

Cory Eliason and Brock Hallett have claimed their respective Sprintcar States Series on opposite sides of the country last night.

Despite Tyler Courtney winning the $15k on offer for the final round at the Perth Motorplex , Eliason's 5th place was enough to secure the title for the West Australian series.

Cody Maroske was in the career-best form to claim the $20k-to-win Red Hot Summer Shootout at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway while Brock Hallett ran 3rd to seal the QLD-NSW States Series.

For full race reports, head to the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series and Sprintcars Queensland pages.

A reminder that the West Australian Series Final can be viewed on 7plus at 6pm AEDST Sunday.

HALLETT ON TOP IN QLD-NSW SPRINTCAR STATES SERIES AFTER LISMORE NAIL BITER!

Almost by stealth, Brock Hallett has taken the top spot of the QLD-NSW Sprintcar States Series after running second to Lockie McHugh by an agonising 0.063 seconds at Lismore Speedway on Tuesday night.

The series now heads to Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway for the $20k-to-win Red Hot Summer Shootout on Friday and Saturday to decide the series and will be streamed live on Clay-Per-View

When asked if he feels like he’s got a target on his back, Hallett was nonchalant.

“No not at all. But every time I’ve raced at Toowoomba it’s pretty intense and up on the fence, which isn’t really my style, but we built a brand new car for Lismore which made me feel a bit more comfortable and we got a great result running second there, so we’re in a good spot.”

“A big thing for me is that Toowoomba is my team’s home track and Graham and Wendy have put a lot into that track and club, so I know it will make them very proud if we can grab the $20k and the series as well.”

The WA Series will also be decided Saturday at the Perth Motorplex with the $15k-to-win Alf Barbagallo Mr. Sprintcar Speedweeks Finale, with Clay-Per-View streaming live and 7plus broadcasting the Rapid Replay on the Sunday from 5pm AEDST.

BLOCK OUT YOUR CALENDARS!
DATES LOCKED IN FOR 2022-23 SPRINTCAR STATES SERIES

The calendar for all three regions of the Speedway Australia backed Sprintcar States Series is now locked in with Murray Bridge Speedway and the Perth Motorplex dropping the green flag for their respective first rounds on Boxing Day and Eastern Creek Speedway starting the northern swing on January 4.

The South Australia/Victoria Speedweek series will offer $7500 to win at each round with a total prize pool of over $150,000, beginning at Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway on Monday December 26, before moving to Borderline Speedway Mount Gambier on Wednesday December 28, Avalon Raceway near Geelong on Friday December 30, and then the final at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway on Sunday January 1.

The West Australian series will contest seven rounds spanning almost a month with $5,000-to-win offered nightly with an additional $10,000 for the grand finale, boosting the overall purse to a touch under $150,000.

The Perth Motorplex will host the Boxing Day opening round and round 2 on December 28 to incorporate the annual Sprintcar Muster, before heading to Bunbury on New Year’s Day for round 3, and then the Motorplex again on January 2.

The cavalcade then journeys north to Ellenbrook Speedway on Saturday January 7 for round 5, then back to Bunbury the following Saturday, before the series final doubling as the “Mr Sprintcar” event honouring Alf Barbagallo for the finale which will offer an impressive $15,000 to win.

The New South Wales/Queensland Series will launch a six round series contested over nine nights, starting with a $10,000-to-win event on Wednesday January 4 at Eastern Creek Speedway ahead of the inaugural Sydney Royale two-night format on Friday January 6 and Saturday January 7 offering a staggering $20,000 to win and backed by an overall payout across the two nights of just under $60,000.

The cavalcade then moves into the Sunshine State to Archerfield on Wednesday January 11 for round 3 before embarking on the Australian Open on the following Friday and Saturday January 13 and 14 for another single round held over two nights offering $20,000 to win.

Lismore Speedway will then host Round 5 on Tuesday January 17 before the tour travels northwest to Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway for the Red Hot Summer Shootout on the following Friday and Saturday presenting a massive $65,000 purse across the two nights with the A Main bolstered by a $20,000 winner’s bounty, while also crowning the NSW/QLD States Series champion with a $10,000 bonus.

Speedway Australia has injected $70,000 into the overall series payouts across the three regions, as elite level Sprintcar racing returns to Australia’s summer speedway after battling Covid border restrictions and parts supply shortages over the last two seasons.

Announcements of visiting international competitors and expatriate Australians returning to our shores have begun to make headlines, setting the scene for what may well be the most fiercely contested racing around the country in recent history.

WORLD SERIES SPRINTCARS PUT ON ICE UNTIL 2023-24 SPEEDWAY SEASON

The Sprintcar States Series will enter a third year of competition in the 2022-23 speedway season after the Speedway Australia board have moved to postpone World Series Sprintcars another year.

The decision was made after extensive discussions revealed a number of different factors threatened to undermine the success of the series, leaving the board with no option but to revert to the State based calendar.

Speedway Australia Board Chairman, Guy Thompson said the discussions were entered into with the first priority to preserve the value of the WSS brand.

“World Series Sprintcars is our sport’s most widely recognized and respected brand, and the decision was made primarily around protecting that brand, and with the multiple threats facing us in the upcoming season, we couldn’t guarantee that World Series would be able to bring the travelling roadshow that the fans have come to love over the last 35 years.”

“The forecast tyre shortage and the unpredictability of shipping delays were certainly factors, but there’s also the added pressures of rising diesel, flight and accommodation cost to the teams and to Speedway Australia, not to mention the rising concern around Covid’s potential resurgence.”
However, he was quick to reinforce the success of the previous two years of the States Series, encouraging fans to get to their local tracks over the summer that is likely to have a return of American flavour.

“The States Series has had an amazing response in the last two years, particularly from the tracks who were very thankful for Speedway Australia’s support in instigating a calendar that still offered good payouts. But when you consider that this year will likely have the return of some American drivers coming back to Australia, the scene is set for what will be a fantastic return to international competition across the nation.”

Details of the respective States Series calendars will be released after consultation with the Sprintcar Control Council of Australia.

BREAKING: CORONA VIRUS FORCES SPRINTCAR STATES SERIES CHANGES
January 9, 2022

Brisbanes’s Archerfield Speedway will now host the Speedway Australia backed QLD/NSW Sprintcar States Series final round after todays announcement that Sydney’s Eastern Creek Speedway will not be ready to host the event next weekend.

Eastern Creek Speedway Co-promoter Kathy Kelly said that all stakeholders met via online link this morning to discuss the viability of the new Sydney venue holding the event, after the global Corona Virus issue had significantly reduced the available construction workforce and constant rain had severely hampered the finishing touches of the venue.

“This has been a heartbreaking process, but there’s no one to blame. It’s simply a perfect storm of Covid and weather combining to undermine the construction process and we will just adapt like we’ve all learned to do in the last two years.”

The opening of the new $73m venue has been rescheduled to Feb 26, while the QLD/NSW Sprintcar States Series final at Archerfield will be a one-night show this Saturday January 15.

The recent flooding in the Wide Bay has also forced the cancellation of the Maryborough round on Monday night with no suitable replacement date and venue available, however the Lismore round on Wednesday January 12 is still scheduled.

Release ends.

VEAL: "SEAT TIME IS EVERYTHING!"
QLD/NSW SPRINTCAR STATES SERIES PREVIEW

Reigning Australian Sprintcar champion Jamie Veal is determined to get back in the groove as the Queensland/New South Wales chapter of the Speedway Australia Sprintcar States Series begins at Archerfield tonight.

The decorated Warrnambool racer has won just about everything on the menu in Australian Sprintcar racing but made the decision to be primarily Queensland based for the season to gain more laps.

“Racing in Queensland gave us the opportunity to get more seat time than if we stayed in Victoria, just with the sheer number of events they run up here, and with only one event under our belts before coming here, we knew it would take some time to get back in the swing.”

Despite being void of a win this summer, Veal has still garnered four podiums from six starts and now wants to capitalize on regaining some race fitness.

“We’re not far off, so when it finally clicks and everything starts flowing again we will be fine.”

A return to form for Luke Oldfield has netted the Gold Coast Sprintcar racer an impressive ten podiums from twelve starts, and the 36-year-old almost admitted that he may have matured as a driver.

“It’s taken a while for me to learn to race smarter,” he laughed, “but don’t tell dad I said that.”

An impressive four wins this season has awarded him a 25% win rate, and it’s been achieved in some very talented company.

“There’s no doubt that competing against Veal, McHugh and Goodyer every night makes you a better racer for sure, but this year we’ve just been chipping away at the “one-percenters” and making sure everything is right and the morale in the team is pretty high as a result.”

Lockie McHugh returns to Archerfield needing to bounce back from a few unlucky nights, but is adamant that nothing needs to change to get back in victory lane.

“We’ve had a couple of average nights recently but we usually roll pretty good at Archerfield and Toowoomba so we’re not too stressed.”

When asked if he feels he has a target on his back, the quietly spoken 23 year old dismissed the notion.

“No I don’t think so. We don’t really worry about what other racers are doing, so I don’t imagine they’re worrying about me either. You get lost when you look at other racers and you can get confused, so we just keep our mind on the job and go racing.”

McHugh, Oldfield and Veal will be joined by a stellar cast of over 40 racers tonight including World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year James McFadden and Californian Carson Macedo The the six round series will be held over eight nights beginning tonight at Archerfield and concluding at Sydney’s new $73m Eastern Creek Speedway on January 14 and 15.

KENDRICK: “WE JUST HAVE TO BEAT OURSELVES.”

Three-time West Australian Sprintcar Champion Jason Kendrick has returned to impressive form with three wins from four events so far this season and goes into the Speedway Australia sponsored WA States Series Speedweek as the hot favourite from Boxing Day.
The TripleM 92.9 KPC pilot will have to wrestle the title from defending champion Callum Williamson, however “we just have to beat ourselves” is Kendrick’s nonchalant response to any rival’s challenge.

“We don’t really think about anyone else. The only person we need to beat is ourselves. People try and beat the other driver or the other car or the track, but we just concentrate on our own game. My thought process is that if we do our best we will win. Simple.”

His return to form has silenced critics who enjoyed seeing the 32-year-old have a somewhat quiet season in 2020-21 with only two wins, but Kendrick is confident that the bad luck of the previous calendar is behind him.

“Last season was strange. We had some bad luck which sounds like a bad cliché, but we also had some confusing nights where I think I wasn’t reporting back to Dad (Geoff) and Brett (Sartori) very accurately. Dad was developing the engine and it was really quick but it was responding differently to what I was used to, so I’d come back to the team to give them feedback on what the car was doing so they’d make changes, but looking back it was more likely the power delivery was different and I just wasn’t reporting accurately.”

Kendrick will join 19 other drivers including Shaun Bradford, David Priolo, Callum Williamson, Daniel Harding and Dayne Kingshott on AAA Metal Recycling Boxing Day and then share the program with 75 winged Sprintcars on the following Tuesday night for the Merger Contracting Sprintcar Muster.

Then after a few days break, the series continues at the Motorplex for a January 1 and 2 double header before heading to Ellenbrook on January 8 and returning to the Motorplex for the Grand Final on January 15.

The Perth Motorplex events will be streamed live on DirtVision.

McFADDEN - “IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE WORLD SERIES!”

Freshly crowned World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year James McFadden is primed for his return to Boxing Day racing this Sunday after an impressive win at Warrnambool last weekend.

“It almost feels like World Series,” he laughed, as he prepares for the annual December 26 road trip to Murray Bridge South Australia to be a part of the Speedway Australia backed Sprintcar States Series opener this Sunday.

“It wouldn’t be Christmas in Australia without Speedweek, and even though it's not the full-blown World Series that we're used to, hats off to everyone who has come together to make sure the fans, racers and tracks can still have quality racing during the summer.”

McFadden and the Monte Motorsport outfit will be one of a number of teams that will embark on the traditional four Speedweek dates between South Australia and Victoria, and despite his impressive form, he faces an imposing list of combatants throughout the run that includes two-time national champion David Murcott and the in-form Matt Egel along with Sydney’s Matt and Marcus Dumesny.

“Winning races is tough anywhere in the world at the moment and this week won’t be any different, but my focus is slightly adjusted to be more around family. Don’t get me wrong, my job is to win races, but this year will be more like a holiday with some racing rather than the intense slog that Speedweek can be.”

“At the end of the day, we’re a racing family so it’s great that we can holiday together and it happens to be at racetracks where I can be with the fans as well!” he laughed.

From Murray Bridge, the cavalcade will head to Mount Gambier on December 28, Avalon Speedway in Lara Victoria on December 30 and then New Years Day at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.

The five-time World Series Champion will then head to Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway for three nights before returning to Victoria for domestic racing before the family of three board a flight back to the USA to embark on a second full time year with the World of Outlaws, switching to the Roth Motorsports #83 entry.

SPRINTCAR STATES SERIES CALENDAR SETS TEAMS BUZZING

The highly anticipated dates for the Speedway Australia Sprintcar States Series have been released today, triggering a flurry of planning amongst teams nationwide.

The series will once again play the role as substitute for World Series Sprintcars after the unpredictability of border closures forced the hand of Speedway Australia along with tracks and teams to regrettably cancel the series for a second year.

“The Speedway Australia Sprintcar States Series is the perfect substitute for World Series in these unpredictable times,” said Premier Speedway Manager David Mills. “The twelve tracks have all banded together to keep elite level Sprintcar racing alive over what is normally our busiest racing period and after last season’s success, we can’t wait for Boxing Day to get started!”

The two eastern series calendars will run concurrently, presenting teams with the opportunity to race twelve nights over three weeks with the Grand Final of the QLD/NSW Series Final doubling as the Grand Opening of the new $73m Eastern Creek Speedway.

“It will be a brilliant way to launch the new venue,” said John Kelly, operator of both Archerfield and Eastern Creek Speedways. “There’s a lot of work to be done between now and then and the border situation is changing daily, but we’ve been swamped with enquiries from racers all over the east coast wanting to be a part of it, so we’re very excited.”

The West Australian series will cover three venues over six nights of racing and according to Perth Motorplex Speedway Manager Gavin Migro, the sense of expectation is even higher this year than the inaugural series last year.

“There was such a great response last year despite us having to deal with both Covid issues and local bushfires as well, but the teams and fans have already thrown their support bend the concept and we’ve added an extra round just to spice things up a little as well.”

Every event boasts at least $5k to win, with the Warrnambool round offering $7,500 as it doubles as the Victorian Sprintcar Title, while the January 8 Archerfield final and the January 15 Eastern Creek final paying $10,000 to the winner.

Standby for driver announcements as teams reveal their pilots for the upcoming series which could include some international flavour!
