SPRINTCAR STATES SERIES CALENDAR SETS TEAMS BUZZING
The highly anticipated dates for the Speedway Australia Sprintcar States Series have been released today, triggering a flurry of planning amongst teams nationwide.
The series will once again play the role as substitute for World Series Sprintcars after the unpredictability of border closures forced the hand of Speedway Australia along with tracks and teams to regrettably cancel the series for a second year.
“The Speedway Australia Sprintcar States Series is the perfect substitute for World Series in these unpredictable times,” said Premier Speedway Manager David Mills. “The twelve tracks have all banded together to keep elite level Sprintcar racing alive over what is normally our busiest racing period and after last season’s success, we can’t wait for Boxing Day to get started!”
The two eastern series calendars will run concurrently, presenting teams with the opportunity to race twelve nights over three weeks with the Grand Final of the QLD/NSW Series Final doubling as the Grand Opening of the new $73m Eastern Creek Speedway.
“It will be a brilliant way to launch the new venue,” said John Kelly, operator of both Archerfield and Eastern Creek Speedways. “There’s a lot of work to be done between now and then and the border situation is changing daily, but we’ve been swamped with enquiries from racers all over the east coast wanting to be a part of it, so we’re very excited.”
The West Australian series will cover three venues over six nights of racing and according to Perth Motorplex Speedway Manager Gavin Migro, the sense of expectation is even higher this year than the inaugural series last year.
“There was such a great response last year despite us having to deal with both Covid issues and local bushfires as well, but the teams and fans have already thrown their support bend the concept and we’ve added an extra round just to spice things up a little as well.”

VIDEO: SPRINTCAR STATES SERIES RETURNS FOR SUMMER SPEEDWAY!
Last season’s Speedway Australia backed Sprintcar States Series will return this summer keeping elite level racing active in the nation.
Industry heavyweights were left with no option but to switch from the previously planned fifteen round World Series Sprintcars tournament back to the States Series in light of unpredictable Covid border challenges, however the news has been met with a positive reception.
“The success of last year’s State’s Series has made the decision a lot easier,” said Speedway Australia General Manager Darren Tindal. “There’s been countless hours of conversations between the major stakeholders including teams, sponsors, tracks and the Speedway Australia board and it was a unanimous decision to put World Series on hold for another year and bring back the States Series as a duty of care to our sport and to our communities.”
“Once again, Speedway Australia will back the initiative to the tune of $70,000 across the three regions, making sure that the fans get to see the best racers in their region battle it out over summer for an increased prize pool.”
Victoria/South Australia States Series Coordinator David Mills was also upbeat about the States Series return, while also admitting the risk to run WSS was too high. “We don’t want to be front page news for all the wrong reasons, and having a dozen teams travel over four states in two weeks would be irresponsible in this current climate.”
Krikke Motorsport’s Ryan Krikke was adamant that it would be reckless for his team to be contracted to travel interstate purely for the health risk.
“We’ve talked a lot about the physical challenge of getting teams across borders, and potential lockdowns, however I can’t send my team into states that are still struggling with the virus with a clear conscience. We’ve raced World Series for 20 consecutive years and no team is more passionate about it than us, but it
