It is with the heaviest of hearts I write that on Wednesday the 8th of May, our world was turned upside down with the passing of our beloved Aidan.

As we navigate through the difficult road ahead, I will be taking some time off to be with my family.

Got to catch up with the Nash family again last week. Adorable as ever and so grown up! Family photos on their wedding anniversary at the location they were married, it doesn't get much more special than that!

Little Tilly was up for an adventure with the cutest mischievous smile - I think Mum and Dad got their steps in chasing after her. Maisie and Court couldn't be anymore angelic. 😆

Saturday with Kelsey and Ed was incredible. A homestead located in Mansfield and has been transformed to be the most perfect new wedding venue. So much work went into making the day as spectacular as it was.

As we headed out to the paddock in the early evening, we were greeted by a gorgeous bunch of friendly horses, even though they did try to eat Kelsey's flowers. A wedding I will remember forever, congratulations guys!

I want to have a chat (hopefully not seen as a rant), about wait times for receiving your photos and videos back through us.

I think that there can be quite a misconception of a realistic delivery timeframe of galleries. I always do the best I can to not make people wait too long, as I know how excited everybody is to see what we created. However at times, particularly this time of the year, your patience is truly warranted and appreciated.

A wedding photography gallery takes me approximately 10 hours per wedding to edit, a videography wedding 20 hours, and a portrait session about 3 hours. Although we are a team at McQuilton Productions, I am the sole editor to keep the editing consistent, and as you can imagine, it can be overwhelming staying on top of the workload. Some nights I stay up as late as 2am to catch up a bit, other nights I can’t possibly keep my eyes open any longer from the busy day and try to have an early one.

I intend on having wedding galleries back within 2 months, videography galleries back within 3 months, and family portraits back within 1 month. I know some others are much faster than this, but on the contrary, I know of others that can take longer than this. Sometimes the times are quicker, sometimes they are longer. But I do also put effort in to promptly delivering a sneak peek of your session to ease the anticipation of the wait.

Why do I take on more work or advertise sessions if I am so backlogged with edits you ask? Well, in this industry, our business is very seasonal. During the winter, I can go weeks, or sometimes even months without an income. It is imperative that I work my butt off over October Nov Dec, and Feb, March and April in the warmer weather and wedding seasons, to keep my business afloat during the quitter months. Kind of like a farmer, right?! I also obviously still try to give myself a life outside of work too. Be that playing sport, hanging out with my family, seeing friends, getting exercise in etc. as I need to keep my sanity!

Additionally, at times I don’t edit galleries in the exact order that I shot them, this can be due to a multitude of reasons. For example, videography edits require full undivided attention for a long period of time to keep the story telling mojo alive. This is hard to do with young children and working other photography and videography jobs in the week. Or Christmas minis - I block out a two week period of other work to quickly capture and turn around Christmas minis to be completed in time for Christmas gifts. I edit photos rather than video during the day when I have natural light, as at night time and under artificial light, we see colours in portraits differently. Someone may have fallen ill in a family and need to quickly be slotted in for a session and receive their images back promptly etc. I am always trying to accommodate for different circumstances. This is just to list a few reasons as to how I order the editing process.

I will not rush my edits and send them back quickly without doing several final touches, as I aspire for all my galleries to be of a high standard. In the future you will want to look back and love the memories I captured, so I hope that people can also appreciate quality over a speedy delivery.

By no means am I attacking anybody in this post, just hoping to give out a friendly reminder to please be patient with us, we are all doing our best to get through the silly season.

It’s like déjà vu for us. The exact same time of the year 3 years on with our little princess seeing the world properly for the first time, like her brother Harvey. 😍

Thanks again to the team at Graham Hill Eyecare for always being so patient and accommodating to my tribe.

Some signs from my little ones that showed potential for low vision included sensitivity to light, always wanting to hold hands or be carried, looking like they are struggling to focus, and lack of coordination or falling a lot. My kids didn’t have turned eyes, but that’s a big giveaway to vision impairments also.

Always get your children’s eyes tested properly from an optometrist folks, not just MCH. Children’s eye tests are bulk billed, and they don’t need to be able to read letters to be tested. Book in now! 🥰
