A few of my favourite pics from our cookbook. To be honest it's really hard to pick favourites. This book is beyond what I imagined it would be. Thanks to and her beautiful eye as a photographer.

We didn't know Cath when she arrived at our farm early one Winter's morning in 2023. She came recommended from our publishers, and we had to hope that welcoming a stranger into our home to snap photos of us, would not back fire.

From the moment Cath rolled up to the farm, through the morning mist, dressed like a farm girl herself (she'd just come from her little regen farm a few hours south) we felt at ease.

For a whole day and all the next morning, we wandered around, doing what we'd usually do on a day on the farm. The kids played, we cooked, ate, roamed, and all the while Cath clicked away, capturing lovely little candid moments. We chatted away, getting to know each other, and later that night after dinner, Scott and I concurred that our publishers were right. Cath was perfect for the job.

We shot for another two days at our home in the northern beaches of Sydney, and another 5 days at Cath’s studio - capturing all the food components.

The photos are warm and inviting and truly represent our family and our way of cooking. Simple and easy recipes with flavours and ingredients that make your heart sing.

Thank you for your beautiful work. Love ya xx

Every time I see something that makes me laugh, inspires me or moves me on instagram I screenshot it. Here are a bunch I came across in April. (Credits below)

My own little thoughts after asking people yesterday on my stories how they feel about their own health, energy, food habits, quality of life, parenting, etc is how many out there feel exhausted, time poor and overwhelmed. Those were the big ones. But also so many of you said you don't take enough time for yourselves, a bunch said they work in stressful environments which leads to emotional eating, and then there was guilt for not being a good enough parent or feeling like they don't have enough energy for their kids. A few of you also told me you live in chronic pain, and have serious health issues.

Thank you for sharing this with me.

My place on this platform, along with it being a business account, is to (hopefully) remind you that we are all human, all doing our best, with whatever knowledge and funds we have at our disposal. So, give yourselves a break. Don't compare yourselves to others. Meet yourself where you are and move forward with compassion and consistency. You are on the right path. πŸ’š

Can I make one suggestion to those who said they were exhausted and had no time for themselves... perhaps take a moment before May rolls in to schedule in some time just πŸ‘πŸΌforπŸ‘πŸΌyouπŸ‘πŸΌ. We are all better humans when we give ourselves permission to take πŸ‘πŸΌcareπŸ‘πŸΌ of πŸ‘πŸΌourselves. Here's your homework: if you can't make time every single day to do something for you, schedule it in for once a week. Have that dinner with your friend. Book that baby sitter and go out with hubby/wifey. Get that massage. Take that nature walk. Finish that book in the sun. But schedule it in or you won't do it. Xx

LOVE LETTERS!!! πŸ’™β€οΈπŸ’™β€οΈ
Every month or so I collect all the latest reviews from our Google my business page and do a little review drop here. Incredibly, we have 60 reviews now, and 60 of those are five stars! (This is turning into an Oscar's speech, someone start the music!). But seriously folks, these little love notes are always read by us and we don't take for granted the time people take to leave one. Especially as every where you go these days you get asked to review your experience.

I'd like to thank my... JOKES. I'm done.

Thanks 😊 Love ya's ###

Just gotta cheer this guy on. He's been leaving the house before light and getting home after the kids go to sleep, on repeat. Somehow he manages to still fit in a load of washing upon returning. But that's what you do when you have a bidding business right? You put in the hard yards, you work around the clock. Anyone who has built a business will know that there's no shortcut. Still, he looked defeated today when I went in to visit him with the kids. So I feel like he needs a post dedicated to cheering him on. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌGo babe! You're awesome. I love you. And don't worry about dinner, I've got it sorted - Steak and Kidney Pie thawing on the counter. 😁🀭πŸ₯°

"Loved every meal on the keto plan.
Felt so full and nourished after every meal. I just added some vegetables on the side.
The green broth had an acquired taste at first, once I got use to the taste it was like receiving a warm hug. As a nurse coming home from work late at night I would have the broth before bed. I noticed on the nights I did this I would have a great sleep.
Picture of when I could not wait for lunch so had Massaman curry for breakfast 😊"

For years I thought there was a diet that would solve my fluctuating weight problems. All through my teens and 20s I dipped from one diet to another, from one eating disorder to another, punishing my body with over exercising and my reflection with cruel words. I never got any closer to understanding what really worked. Yes I learnt to lose weight through calorie counting but my body paid the price in fatigue, hormone dysfunction and mental exhaustion. I wish I knew then what I know now. I don't want to say it's simple, because for many people it's not, but when I step back and see my journey, it was all so complicated. So the answer feels so simple to me now. So obvious. Eating primarily whole foods, prioritising (ethical) protein, nourishing my body with healthy fats, and not being in a state of fear with it comes to food. It took years (autocorrect just wrote "tears" which seems fitting too) for my body to recalibrate and it took even longer for my brain to unlearn all the things I'd been told to fear and hate. My body being the main one.
To anyone out there lost, unsure, stuck in a perpetual state of self-hate or self-deprecation, I know exactly where you are. I'm not in the position to give professional advice, but if I could tell my younger self one thing (instead of going on all those silly diets) it would be: eliminate as many processed foods as you possibly can. Just start with a 100% natural food diet. There is so much goodness, flavour and nutrients in that alone. Don't eat food that isn't food. πŸ’•

Driving back from the farm today we stopped at a road side cafe for some food. Although we try to make the best food decisions as parents, we sometimes succumb to the kid's demands despite knowing better. Today Zan wanted a strawberry milkshake, and knowing full well this would have food colouring in it, a whole lot of other additives plus sugar, we couldn't be bothered to argue. He devoured the drink, and almost immediately became completely hyperactive. It's rare for us to give the kids processed food, or drinks with added sugar / food colouring, for this exact reason. A banana smoothie would have been the better option.

It's worth being aware of what additives are in kids food. Food dyes are used often to entice kids (and us) to buy them. They look pretty and vibrant but they have no nutritional value and can compromise our health.

Hope this is useful. πŸ’š

Chickens really get the raw and of the deal in conventional farming. That's why it took us such a long time to get chicken on the menu. We never wanted to go create food from animals that's have had a sub par, or stressful life. The truth is, most chickens in the supermarket isles really don't have a life a all. They have a jail sentence, overloaded on growth promotants, antibiotics, fed crap then dipped in chlorine to make it look more appealing for the customer. Yummy.

Even free range has become a greenwashing term that makes the average consumer feel like they're doing right by the animal. But free range is far from the idyllic life these chickens are enjoying in this photo.

Ideally we'd source chicken from a regenerative farm, but that would double our prices.

So we use the next best (in my opinion), which is certified organic chicken. The standards are high for the animal, and human health. And of course less chemicals means better ecological outcomes, although room for improvement in that area I'm sure.

Have a look at the next slide to see the difference between conventional/ free range / organic. πŸ™πŸ»

Our mate has a fabulous podcast called The Regen Narration. This week his guests are... (drum roll) Scott and I!
It was such a pleasure to be on it. Here's the blurb to entice you to listen:

"Family, passion, and determination play a significant role in Matilda and Scott's story. Discover how Matilda's mother, last Monday’s guest Rachel Ward, infused her artistic background and love for the environment into their family farm – then into her new film about it, β€˜Rachel’s Farm’. We'll also explore how Matilda navigated the film industry herself, before finding a surprising calling in their evolving business. And how Scott's expertise in nutrition and holistic living, and extraordinary experience of healing from debilitating injury, has been instrumental in their journey.

Finally, listen in as we discuss the challenges and triumphs of running the Good Farm Shop, as an ethical, regenerative food business. From learning about holistic land management and meeting extraordinary farmers, to creating ready meals that nourish the body and soul, Matilda and Scott's story is a testament to the power of love, passion, and a commitment to regenerative living."

I'll add it to my Linktree for easy access. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’š

A few photos of lately. Not much to do with food but lots to do with family, love and adventure.

1. A messy morning in bed cuddling the kids. Featuring Zan's favourite breakfast (banana pancakes which is just banana and egg whisked together, fried with some butter and a drizzle of honey) and the book I just finished and couldn't put down (titled: Romantic Comedy).

2. My very pregnant older sister at her baby shower on the weekend on her Avo farmπŸ’š

3. A delicious breakfast.

4. My feet and some ducks at .careelbay

5. Dad, mum and me at Rachel's Farm at Sydney Film Festival last weekend.

6. Anouk and Grandpa having one of many moments.

7. The guy who cooks all the food our customers eat. For once without an apron and looking quite dapper. Aka Scott. Husband and co-founder.

8. The haul from on the weekend. We got some avos, chillies, oranges, mandarins, lemons and limes. Not bad at all.

Life outside of cooking. πŸ’šπŸ˜ŠHello.

My sunnies are better than yours! This is not a paid post blah blah blah just a post of appreciation of a brand and an individual who truly believes in something so vehemently that they create positive change. I met Nik from recently who decidedly to β€œuntrash” the planet with the help of his family and make f**king cool sunnies from discarded plastic bottles.

How bloody good!

We need more Niks in this world.

Fun article in the Good Weekend about our farm regeneration and family shenanigans. If you're at a loose end this weekend there's still time to grab tickets to Rachel's Farm, screening at the Sydney Film Festival tomorrow. The film is a great insight into regeneration of the land and mum is wonderful, relentless and fearless as farmer Mick's farm hand. There's a panel after which I'm sure I'll be entertaining and enlightening.
