The SHEN Athletics Carnival is now OPEN FOR BOOKINGS!!
Date: Monday, 4th September 2023
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Location: Marsfield
Participant cost: $12.50 – $20 (spectators free)
The annual Athletics Carnival for all home schooled students aged 5-18 is on again! Please book your tickets, mark your calendars, and help spread the word.

The events will be running races (100m, 200m), discus, shotput, long jump, high jump, relays and something fun.
Cost for participants :
$14.50 – SHEN members,
$20 – non-SHEN members, and
$12.50 each child – Large Family tickets (3+ children participating)*
Spectators attend free of charge.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR SHEN MEMBERSHIP IS CURRENT BEFORE PURCHASING MEMBER TICKETS
* non-member large families will find it more cost effective to purchase SHEN membership before proceeding to payment
You can check your membership status by logging into your account at www.shen.org.au before purchasing tickets.
Booking is through the SHEN website, and will close on Monday 21st August to allow plenty of time to organise the day, so please book your tickets ASAP!
We will send an information pack to participants in the week before the carnival with further details on recommendations and facilities that will be available on the day.

Most NSW TAFE courses are ‘fee free’ this year!

Since the beginning of 2017, students aged 15+ and registered for homeschooling have been able to access government-subsidised TAFE courses (‘Smart and Skilled’ is the name for the government subsidy model, which applies to most TAFE courses).

All that is required to enrol is a registration certificate and USI (unique student identifier). A Year 10 certificate is not required.

TAFE courses are a good transition step from home education, a supportive learning environment providing practical skills, and a pathway to further education and the workforce.
TAFE courses can be included in your registration plans.

Note: It is not a requirement, and not helpful for homeschooled students to meet with an under-17 vocational counsellor. For support or for answers to questions about homeschooled students and TAFE, email [email protected]

TAFE NSW offers hundreds of courses with a wide range of study options from online courses to diplomas and degrees, training and full-time education.

Volunteers needed!

The SHEN Athletics Carnival is only 2 sleeps away!!

With nearly 300 participants plus their parents, it is going to be an exciting and fun-filled day.

Can you help out?

Roles include supervising individual events, helping out with the canteen and more. Volunteering is a good way to give back to our community, and are a great way to connect with others.

Teens/young adults are welcome to help out and will receive a small compensation.

Homeschoolers Careers Day
Hi everyone, we are hosting a careers day for homeschoolers. We have a careers advisor from the National Careers Institute coming, who is also a seasoned homeschooler. She will present useful pathway and job market information, tailored to homeschoolers, and answer your questions. You can also book a one-to-one chat with her if you like (on the day). It's all free.
We're running it in three locations on three separate days so as many people in the Sydney area can come as possible. They are as follows:

SHEN - SYDNEY HOME EDUCATION NETWORK
A non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers, providing an online platform for home educators to connect with each other through activities, meet-ups and events, in Greater Sydney and surrounding areas of NSW.

Membership to SHEN provides regular newsletters for members to advertise upcoming events, the opportunity to subsidise annual sports carnivals and events to the Opera House run by its volunteers, and more.
