Darcy and Mel first met at the movies. No, it was not canoodling in the dark on a first date, but working shifts together taking tickets and pouring popcorn at Burwood cinema where they both worked.

For their wedding the stepped it up a notch bringing old-Hollywood glamour and red carpet vibes (‘red carpet’ was their dress code) to the centre of Sydney as they said “I do” in the atrium at Kittyhawk bar before heading upstairs to party the night away.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Theirs was truly a modern wedding with a vintage feel. Mel and Darcy took traditional elements and reworked them to make them their own (hello green velvet wedding dress and mismatched wedding party) and mixed them with old-school romantic vibes. Cool and classy all at the same time.

Would you believe that this classy couple started out as awkward high school sweethearts? They were in the library one day each studying for their HSC when Skye's friend Kelly went up to Jacky and told him that Skye thought he was cute. Skye was mortified and later looked Jacky up online to apologise. Jacky was amused and intrigued and asked for Skye's number... and then played it cool waiting three whole agonising days before messaging to ask her out! They go on a very awkward first date, but there's something there so they persevere. Thank goodness they did. And thank goodness for Kelly! I hope they gave her a very big shout out in their wedding speeches. 🥂

Congratulations Skye and Jacky! It was a pleasure to be part of your special day.

We worked through a Covid postponement, and they didn't bat an eyelid when I had to bring my kids along to their rehearsal (it was the zoo after all). Alex and Matt nailing the art of hand/card/mic placement for their vows.

You see the advantage of holding the mic yourself when you read your vows (rather than your celebrant holding it) is that they can get right out of the way at what is arguably the most intimate and personal part of your ceremony (no third wheel in your vow photos thank you very much).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, this does mean that your hands are full (mic in one hand, vow card in the other) making it tricky to create some physical connection with your partner.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So take note... when you're the one receiving vows, don't just stand there awkwardly twiddling your thumbs. Instead create some connection by placing your hand on your partner's hand that is holding the card.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This connection will not only be an extra boost of support for your partner as they share their heartfelt words, but also helps to portray the emotion of this special moment in your photos.

Eleanor and Liam had been orbiting each other since they were children - they were born just four days apart in the same hospital and spent every summer holidaying mere metres from each other on the south coast (Liam even remembers Eleanor and her sister riding down the hill past his house on their bikes). But it took a shared Medieval History tutorial at uni for them to finally meet and become friends.

Family holidays were still spent down the coast and they'd bump into each other often and meet to walk and talk for hours. They soon discovered that they shared not only a geographical history, but that their intellectual and spiritual universes also aligned. While uni was where they met, it was on those coast that they fell in love. 💕 🚲

Oh hi there! It's been a loooong time since I posted. To be honest, I haven’t felt like being in my socials all the time. I won't go into why, but you only have to look at the news to get an idea). Plus, I've been so busy working in my business, not on it. And that's ok. Actually, it’s more than ok. It feels amazing to have been finally wedding so many lovely couples who've had to postpone over the past two years. Some I booked way back in 2019!

Today instead of doom-scrolling the news, I joy-scrolled through the camera roll on my phone. These are just a handful of the couples I've helped get hitched since the end of lockdown last year. JULIA + SYE 💜

Talk about packing your ceremony full of love and emotion. When Covid complications meant Julia and Sye had to downsize their wedding they discovered a surprising side-effect. With only their closest family there, they felt far less inhibited and were able to share their emotions more freely. Their ceremony included two musical performances - one from Julia's mum on the violin and one from Sye's sister on guitar (she almost finished the song before her tears got the better of her). Julia was literally jumping around with excitement at the realisation she was actually marrying Sye and their vows were some of the most heartfelt I've ever heard. They also sent me on my way back to Sydney with the most amazing grazing box which was so thoughtful and much appreciated.

Nothing is more important to Alyssa and Tom than family. Family was the value that guided all their decision making when it came to their wedding. When Covid played havoc with their plans, they knew they couldn't just run away and elope. For them it didn't feel right. So instead, they reduced their guests numbers (to family and a few close friends) and moved their reception to be held at Tom's parents' place on the south coast, where they're both originally from. They were married under the most gorgeous old tree in Glastonbury Gardens, Austimer with their families there to cheer them on.

The best way to describe Eloise and Scott is Effortlessly cool, stylish, but not showy. I wanted to be their best friend as soon as I met them.

It was so much fun taking over one of the greens at the Clovelly Bowling Club for their ceremony. Nothing says "leave your pretensions at the door and come and have a good time" than having to take your shoes off the minute you arrive!

They knew exactly what they wanted their wedding to look and feel like, took care in choosing vendors that matched their vision and then put their trust in us and let us do our job.

You can’t see it under the mask but this is me with a big grin on my face as I leave my first ceremony in almost three months!

When we went into lockdown I went into hitcher’s hibernation. It’s been a tough slog, but this week I had lots to celebrate (and don’t we all need something to celebrate right now?) On Tuesday I had my second Pfizer jab, on Friday I celebrated surviving 10 weeks of remote learning and today I got to help Amber and Andrea (yep another Andrea) tie the knot.

Things are looking up!

It was touch and go there for a bit, but we did it! Carmen and Frankie overcame many Covid caused obstacles to tie the knot today. First they had to get Carmen’s mum here from China. She finally arrived last month and was more than happy to do hotel quarantine if it meant seeing her daughter get married.

And then this week they lost a third of their guests due to the current restrictions in Sydney.

I know everyone has been affected by Covid in some way or another but at the end of the day it still sucks.

I’m so glad Carmen and Frankie persevered and went ahead with their wedding. It was a tough decision to make but seeing them so happy today makes it all worth it.

WHERE DO I STAND? AND WHY?

The answer to this question is... lots of places, and it depends.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Traditionally the officiant stands between the couple with the couple facing each other or with their backs to their guests. This approach does not work for my style of ceremony.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So for the majority of your ceremony I prefer to stand to the side. This allows the two of you to stand as close as your hearts desire and facing your guests so they can see your beautiful faces and you can see their loving smiles beaming back at you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have a small wedding party, I will stand on the end of one side. If you have a large wedding party, I will shuffle in beside one of you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Being to the side allows me to easily speak to you as well as to your guests. It just feels so much more natural. No one is there to see me!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I only move to the centre for the parts where you need the mic - the asking, vows and rings. Then I get the hell out of there before you have your kiss (you definitely don't want a third wheel in that shot!)

SIGNING THE PAPERWORK ✍🏼

If you get ready separately, signing your marriage paperwork is often the first moment you have a chance to take a deep breath and have a chat and an excited giggle between yourselves. Your wedding day goes by so fast and you'd be surprised how little time you actually get to spend together. That is why I always tell my couples to make the most of this few minutes to themselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After you've signed, don't wander back towards your guests (that can get out of hand quickly, trust me). Instead stay next to or behind the table as your witnesses sign and enjoy a brief but beautiful moment to yourselves. Stare into each other's eyes basking in that "we just got married!" feeling or take a look around at all the special people who you've invited to share this special moment with.

I can't think of a better way to spend my birthday than brunch with friends, dinner with the fam and a little elopement squeezed in between.

It was a pleasure to spend the first sunny day in a while with Sarah and René and their three beautiful children. They were meant to wed on Tuesday, but when Monday rolled around and the forecast was looking very very sketchy we made the call to try and change the date. It was no mean feat - photographer, hotel, park permit, hair and makeup, babysitter and witnesses all had to be changed or rearranged in a matter of hours. But boy was it worth it to see these two say "I do" in the sun. ☀️

This is Ollie, one of the cutest and best behaved ring bearers I’ve ever met. And that’s all thanks to Amy from who was in charge of keeping him out of mischief before his big entrance and then led him down the aisle with the rings where he received much applause and a few cuddles before being whisked away again.

If you’re going to have pets at your wedding this is the (stress-free) way to do it. Straight after photos Amy will take Ollie home while his masters enjoy their big night.
