We often take over service for venues with multiple AV providers over the years. Often, AV equipment gets replaced or added to a rack without attention being paid to making the rack tidy and serviceable, so cables start piling up over the years. This usually results in a rack where all the cables cascade out the back of each rack unit, making it very difficult to see the back of any equipment, and the rack becomes very difficult to service.
The 5 main reasons why you should tidy your amp rack are:
1. 🔐**Easy Access**: Cables that are too short can prevent the rack from being easily moved for maintenance.
2. 📛**Prevent Frequent Issues**: Loose cables can cause frequent disconnections and accidental bumps.
3.🔌 **Efficient Power Management**: Adding multiple power boards creates tension on cables resulting in poor connections and power losses.
4. 🔥**Reduce Fire Hazards**: Dust buildup combined with poor power management and no ventilation can pose a fire risk.
5. ⚒️**Simplify Troubleshooting**: A cluttered rack makes it difficult to trace cables and identify faults.
For these reasons, when a rack is in a state like this, we recommend a full audit of the system, creating a document that lists all rack connections and identifies any redundant equipment. We may then reorganise the layout of the rack if needed to make it easier to access all items, which may include upgrading to a larger rack if the current one is too small for the required equipment.
We then rewire all equipment neatly, including re-terminating and adding new cables when necessary to ensure there is sufficient length for all cables to neatly reach the edge, ensuring easy access and vision for future replacements and upgrades. We also extend or replace cables to ensure the rack can be pulled out or moved for easy access to the rear when servicing, without risking cables being disconnected.
The system is then tested to ensure it is fully functional, and finally, we label all rack items
Do you have party lighting? This question often comes up, and the answer is yes. While many envision house party lights as flashing lights accompanied by copious amounts of smoke and lasers, all you really need is a bit of time and creativity. A few battery-powered wash par cans to illuminate the walls, a mirror ball with a pin spot, and one of our aqua lights can really set the mood.

Revolutionary product demonstration of Red Alert with Andy on The Island!
Finally a solution - RED ALERT has proven to be an effective way of preventing DJs running their levels into the red, and is a unique product, we do not know of any other device that is so simple and effective at solving this universal issue.
When the DJ mixer output goes into the red a big red lamp on the RED ALERT will flash reminding the DJ to take the level back slightly. Simple.
If the DJ doesn't notice the lamp (or ignores it) then after it has flashed for a sustained period the RED ALERT will temporarily mute just the booth monitor output to get the DJ's attention. Once the level is reduced the booth monitor will become un-muted again.
