We are saddened to hear that Barbara Moir passed away on Saturday 6 April 2024.

Everyone at Orioles knew Barb. She was the matriarch of the Moirs, and one of the greatest supporters of the Oriole brand. Like many of us, Barb got involved when the boys were young and started playing some 40 years ago. She did some scoring in the juniors and was 1st Grade scorer for many years in the Dick Shirt era.

Her strength was in connections … Barb would talk to everyone. She knew everybody’s name and was friend and confidant to generations of players, their significant others, their kids and even grandchildren.

In our darkest days in the late 1990s when the very existence of the playing club was at its most uncertain, Barb was part of the defacto committee that took every advantage to convince the competition administrators and the legal administrators that the playing squad, while similarly named to the troubled licenced club, was indeed a separate entity and could, and should, remain on the ballpark. When the Os first negotiated import players, it was Barb who opened her home to give these players a genuine Aussie experience.

Barb was wife and mother/step mother of Orioles life members. We extend our sincere condolences to Bob, Scott and Jason and wish them strength as they deal with their loss.

Barb’s funeral is scheduled for Monday, 15 April 2024 at West Chapel, Pinegrove at 12:30pm.

Vale, Graham Ward who passed away on 12 March.

His staunch and unwavering support of, and love for, the club saw Graham participate as a player and coach of teams in the Auburn Orioles junior system, and for many years Graham was the scoreboard operator at Oriole Stadium.

Graham was a hand at our elbow, an arm around our shoulder. He became an umpire at grade level because he thought he could bring integrity and structure to that aspect of baseball.

Despite moving to regional NSW in retirement, Graham remained connected with the Orioles and attended games and heritage events for many years where he could be seen lending a hand still, and always in his cheerful manner.

We send our condolences to Ros, and to Graham's family, and especially to Graham's stepson, Jason Moir #17.

Follow, or copy and paste, the following link to see Graham's farewell service which will be livestreamed at 1pm, Monday 18 March.

Our cheers become tears 😪 as we process the saddest news about Mat Sneddon - tough baseballer, catcher, team mate ... Oriole 🧡🖤🧡🖤

We saw first hand how tough Mat was as he fought his way back onto the baseball field after an horrific motor vehicle collision in 2009. He asked the medical staff, "Can you see if they've got a strong pain killer that I can take so I'll be alright to catch tomorrow?" as he was prepared for a 9 hour surgery on his legs! - see pic of excerpt from our year book.

In a message from a family member, they said "baseball was everything to Mat. He lit up that diamond"

We will see many tributes to Mat from the baseball community. We wish everyone strength in coming to terms with our shared loss.

Our deepest condolences go to his family and friends. We shed our tears for the memory of him as we find the strength to honour that memory. Take care, Boys. Make some noise ...

Tonight we are sad to announce the passing of Robert 'Bob' Liddle. Bob started his baseball journey more than 35 years ago as a parent helper with the Auburn Orioles. Not being the kind to ever do anything by halves, Bob learned as much as he could about the game, taking on roles as scorer, manager, canteen manager (and cook), and groundskeeper. His passion eventually saw him settle in the under 14's age group where he coached many generations of young Orioles.

He is one of a handful of people that can be credited with saving the Orioles club during their darkest years, taking on whatever role was required by the State League club (he also has a 2nd-grade hit on his stat line). Almost single-handedly ensuring the Orioles had a home ground after the closure of Oriole stadium at Auburn.

Bob was instrumental in the merger between Auburn and Macarthur which saw the Orioles restored to a competitive and respected State Leauge club.

There is hardly a person who has been involved with Orioles in the last 20 years that would not recall the sight of Bob with a rake, a hose or the BBQ tongs in his hands.

He gave so much of himself so that we can play the game and shines as an example to all of us.

This Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday (if required) his beloved Orioles play the 1st grade grand final and we'd love to see as many people out at Blacktown International Sportspark as possible to honour his memory.

No news yet on Old Boys Day Saturday 4 February 2023 at Gilchrist Oval.

Here's an extract of the draw that shows we're playing Greater Western. Game times are in the second pic.

It's worth a trip even if it's just to watch a bit of the modern game.

𝗩𝗔𝗟𝗘 - 𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗟𝗘𝗬 𝗪𝗜𝗚𝗚

Lesley was a long-time scorer at Auburn Orioles and was the 1st Grade scorer for the first few years of the Macarthur Orioles.

Known for her accuracy and precision, Lesley provided valuable game and player insights for coaches and managers. She was a tireless contributor to baseball generally but particularly to her beloved Colyton Chiefs and Orioles.

Although more recently remembered as a scorer, Lesley was a hard-working administrator at junior and senior levels in all of the age and open NSW and representative competitions, especially during the development years of the Greater Western association when it was still finding its feet.

Her involvement in the NSW Scorers Association took her into the Australia Baseball space during some exciting times including the Intercontinental Cup and Sydney Olympics. She was a supporter of and involved in, the more social side of the game as well through the various legendary road trip tournaments.

Her contributions to the Orioles at both Auburn and Macarthur included committee positions and Major/State League senior scorer and delegate. She provided mentorship to emerging scorers and officials and was a staunch supporter of the Orioles brand within our corner of the baseball world.

If we needed a fussy project done right, Lesley would make sure it was done. And not only done right but done perfectly.

We send our condolences to Dane, his father Ian, and brother Aaron and their families.

RIP Lesley. We remember you fondly.
