Ryan here, just wanted to connect with you all and share a bit of what has been a massive 1st year here at The Knoll Studio, with so much time and effort gone into creating the space just the way I want it, now seems a good time to reflect on the year thats been.

We started where The Centre of Regenerative Arts left off with their vision and their support, for the site to be a place for the arts. A place for community to be inspired, to realise the vision to create a space that a creative mind would be inspired in, was clear in my mind.

I think about the term visionary, peering into the future and then willing into existence. With no capital investors or wealthy benefactors, it was my life savings and the belief of my family and friends (and help) that I sit here today, once again, looking into the future and listening for the whispers of what wants to be.

The truth is ive never been good at just doing one thing... i like buzz and excitement of new things and working in the creative field is certainly that.

Ive worked with people with "unique abilities" for nearly 20 years now (I know right) and it lights me up when I am able to connect deeply with a client and get to support them creatively, personally and socially.

I don't use the word D!$!L!tY, i think is outdated and its never sat well with me. I know there are those that claim it and are empowered by it, but it doesn't inspire me, so i don'
use it.

Ive always had a small number of clients and focused on really creating the conditions so that their unique talents and spirit can shine.

The first time I ever worked with people with Unique Abilities I was doing a drum workshop for Threeworlds at the Currumbin Special School.

I remember driving the van loaded up with bongos and shakers to the school when it kind of dawned on me that ive never done anything like this before. I remember thinking.... how am I going to pull this off? A wave of anxiety ran through me thinking about this unknown experience.

I sat at the red light and remembered that really, it was all just about connection, and while we may have differing abilities, there was a place that we were all the same, our humaness.

I said to myself, I am going to connect on the level that we are the same, and thats what I did.

There I met a young man who loved music and his mum asked if I would do 1 on 1 with him, I did... and the rest is history.

I wrote a song about this with my dear friend Ash Perrow and it was one of the first recordings we ever did.

I reason I am sharing this with you is because increasing my available spots in my my studio to offer my bespoke and individualised supports for those with NDIS plans.

On this date 1 year ago, we officially cut the orange ribbon and opened our orange doors for the first time!

It's been such an initiation for us in so many ways,

In September 2023 we turned up to an empty shell and saw it as a blank canvas. The space that is now The Knoll Studio, has had SO MUCH work, time, money, sweat and tears poured into it to get it to where it is now. We will NEVER forget those who supported us in our early days in completely renovating this place. We really cannot even put into words how much went into this space (and continues to) and how incredibly grateful we are for people's selflessness and support. During this time we felt what it was to be a part of such an incredible community.

We want to take a moment to reflect on everything this year has brought—both the highs and the hurdles.

The Hurdles:
Starting a new business is never easy, and our journey has been no different. From managing countless details behind the scenes to navigating disappointments and unexpected challenges, every day has been a learning experience. We’ve had days where the vision seemed just out of reach, and nights spent reworking ideas to make everything just right. But every obstacle taught us something valuable, shaping the way we work and the experience we offer to each of you.

The Highs:
The people and community we have met over the past year has been nothing short of wonderful. We've been blessed to work with some incredibly inspiring clients and projects that have fuelled our passion for what we do. Seeing our vision come to life in photos, videos, and events has been the greatest reward. We’re grateful for each of you who trusted us in helping bring your vision to life, supported us through our journey, and made our studio feel like the creative community we wanted.

As we look ahead to another year, we look forward to more unforgettable moments, more laughter, and many more creative projects to come. Thank you for being part of our story—whether you’ve been with us since day one or just joined the journey, we couldn’t have done it without you. Cheers to year two!
