This morning I was driving to the cafe listening to Cat Stevens album Tea For The Tillerman.
Miles From Nowhere came on- miles from nowhere, guess I’ll take my time, oh yeah to reach there.
The lyrics a poignant reminder about slowing down and enjoying the journey and remaining hopeful for the future.
Lately I have seen way too many small business close their doors. I have spoken to business owners from many industries. It is a repetitive story across the board, times are tough.
People’s hopes and dreams for the future have been squashed, staff have been laid off, bills are harder to pay.
In the lead up to Christmas many of these business owners are hoping for a miracle, hoping the pressure will lift and hoping that they will be able to keep their doors open to see the new year.
In the lead up to Christmas there is something we can all do to help our community and fellow business owners survive! Shop local, shop small.
Instead of going to the big chain stores check out your local markets. The couple dollars more you may pay could be the difference between someone’s power being kept on or their rent paid.
Instead of grabbing a coffee from the maccas drive through call your local cafe and see if they can meet you roadside to save you the time of walking in when you are in a hurry.
At this time, in this economy most business owners will bend over backwards to accommodate you. That small sale can have an impact greater then you could imagine.
Your local candle maker has put their heart and soul into developing a unique product for you as opposed to the mass produced variety found in the chain stores.
The crocheted quilt the lady is selling raffle tickets for to keep their charity afloat has had blood sweat and tears put into it and it’s value greatly underestimated.
I know times are tough for everyone but if we don’t support each other now, your favourite businesses may well become another statistic, another memory that people will say ‘it’s such a shame they closed down’ while the big chains continue to post billion dollar profits.
A kind word to a friend or acquaintance about a business to assist in positive growth is more valuable then any paid marketing can be.
And on the flip side a word with a business owner instead of racing to your keyboard can be the fine line between a businesses success or falling over. Allow the opportunity for rectification before going for the jugular.
Empathy has been bypassed for the ‘feel good notification’ you receive on your device.
Times are changing, let’s embrace and support each other.

Melbourne Cup Day 2014 verse now!
10yrs ago I was a realestate agent working as a part of Team Neilson - RE/MAX now known as Neilson & Co.
We were a high volume team that put in the hard yards to build the trust of our community.
It is a part of my life that I will always hold fondly. I was privileged to be taught by one of the best agents in the industry and will be forever grateful for my time with Dave and the team at RE/MAX Bayside.
I never could have imagined that 10yrs later I would still be serving my community in such a vastly different manner to where I was!

At the time it can be hard to understand why we face lessons and what they are for but the universe seems to always have a plan, we just have to trust in it 💚

On the 2nd of December back in 1995, after 6yrs of dating, Gayle and Peter said I DO at King Country Bayside 💍
Celebrating 29yrs of wedded bliss this year Gayle and Peter called in today for a walk down memory lane.
Peter joined the Australian Defence Force.
Thank you for your service 🫶🏻.
With their 3 kids in tow and after 21yrs of moving around due to the ADF commitments Peter and Gayle now call Jimboomba home and have 6 grandchildren!

I can’t get enough of meeting the beautiful people that were married here and share their stories and memories of their special day on this property.
Being able to document the KCB history is a very special task 💚
