Miss Addie Bo Peep and I will be back at the cafe from 8.30am today!
I’m not sure how I will go yet but I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces 💚
Everyday my left hand is getting stronger and better at doing things, which is lucky because my right hand seems more decorative then anything at the moment 😂💚
On a side note my gardens are looking fabulous! I love when the Crepe Myrtel flowers. The clusters of flowers against the dark foliage is magnificent 💚

I can’t believe today marks 1yr of us opening the gates to the public 💚

A quick update after the cat bite and answering some questions.

Molly our cat passed away within 3 minutes of biting me.
If she was poisoned it was unintentional, I suspect it was rat bait of some sort.
Addie the lamb is doing really well, she wasn’t touched by the cat.
The surgeon did a wound review and allowed me to come home this morning with oral antibiotics, pain relief and strict instructions about when I would need to go to the ER again.
The hospital will contact me in regard to when I need to go back for follow up.
It was the cat bite itself that caused the issues not the potential poison.
Cat bites can be extremely dangerous especially on joints or the face.
Please follow up with your GP or the hospital urgently if you are bitten or scratched by a cat. If you are immune compromised please go to the hospital.

I felt utterly ridiculous presenting to the ER for a ‘little cat bite’. But it’s lucky I did considering I needed emergency surgery!

I still have impaired mobility in my thumb and sensation changes. At this stage I am unsure about the potential for physio.

The pictures below show the main injury over the course of the past few days.
On the surface it looks quite insignificant however when they opened me up the tendon had formed a fluid filled sack that they weren’t expecting to find. They drained and cleaned the wound and debrided the site.

I have a little story that will hopefully help someone in the future.
On Thursday night we were hanging out the back at home. Riley walked inside and straight back out again. ‘There’s something wrong with Molly!’.
Molly is our very elderly cat.
We rushed inside and she didn’t look good. I found a towel and wrapped her up. We comforted her and the kids were saying good bye. We just knew she wasn’t going to make it.
Next minute, Addie the lamb jumped up behind me on the arm chair. This startled Molly who then bit my thumb. I gently put Molly on the floor wrapped in the towel. Within moments she was gone.
We suspect she may of been poisoned.
I cleaned, dressed and put baindaids on the two little tooth marks and soon enough headed off to bed.
I barely slept, the pain that came in over night was incredible!
Instead of taking me to the cafe to open Friday morning I was dropped at the Redlands ER.
I was given IV anti biotics, had an ultrasound and X-ray on my thumb and was then transferred to QE2 under the surgical team.
I had surgery yesterday and am still here receiving IV anti biotics and am on some pretty hectic pain killers.
My range of movement has been greatly impacted.
Tomorrow I will be reassessed by the surgeon to decide whether they will open me back up and we are waiting to see what, if anything, grows from the sample of fluid they took.

I am sharing this now because I had no idea how serious a cat bite could be!
I’m told that because cat teeth are so sharp what happens is they create a narrow wound that seals quickly trapping the bacteria from cats teeth under the skin.
For me it penetrated the joint and tendon.

Today is quite a momentous day in our house, our first born, Riley, is 18 🎉
Like it was yesterday, I vividly recall Mick and I sat on the edge of our bed looking at this tiny little person, we looked with absolute awe at the tiny little blonde boy that we made!
I won’t pretend it has always been easy but to see the man we have standing in front of us today is one of my proudest achievements.
We have gone from the boy that wouldn’t sleep to the teenager that wouldn’t go to school to the man that is completing a Landscaping Apprenticeship and works at the cafe.
Riley made Mick and I Mum and Dad. Teaching him has been a blessing but learning from him has been phenomenal 💚

This year is the first in as long as I can remember that we didn’t spend Christmas with Mum and Norm.
They are freezing their booties off in Canada so we spent a gloriously relaxing day in their pool.

Some of these pictures you may never of seen, some of them you might have but this is the story of our year from December 2023 to June 2024.
I will have to make a video to try to get the whole year into one place.

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Thank you for being part of our journey to date.

Over the past year I have faced more challenges then I thought possible. I have laughed until I have cried. I have been broken and I have been stronger then ever before.
