All set up for a casual relaxed ceremony at this hidden gem outdoor amphitheatre, part of the Riverside Community Centre in Douglas, Townsville. So calm and peaceful with added bonus of butterflies all around.
Topped off my weekend after a Friday private intimate elopement style ceremony at one of the northern beaches locations.

Well the show must go on despite a cyclone. No power, no internet to print certificates which I was holding off on to confirm the location due to the weather. Mad rush to my sons before the morning wedding Sunday at Anzac Park on The Strand, Townsville.

My favourite ritual to include children in a wedding is the sand ceremony. In a sand ceremony, each person has a container filled with coloured sand. Taking it in turns, they pour their sand into the central glass container. The different shades of the sand create a layered effect, representing both the unity and individuality of the participants, as the individual colours are still visible but cannot be taken apart. It can be only the couple who participate, but I like to use it when children are involved, particularly blended families.

The sea was grey last Saturday for my wedding at Garabarra Lawn, Jezzine Barracks, Townsville, but what a beautiful spot overlooking Magnetic Island. Perfect for a wedding but worth a visit anytime to see the sculptures, take a walk or have a picnic.

Although weddings occur all year round in North Queensland, I am coming to the end of a very busy winter season while the weather has been perfect. The amazing thing about a civil wedding is that you can get married where and when you want. In the past few months, I've conducted ceremonies in and around Townsville on people's own property, in parks, at Pallarenda, Saunders Beach and in restaurants. I've also travelled to Texas Longhorns in Charters Towers, Mission Beach Resort and Castaways Mission Beach. I've loved every minute of it. I'm now taking bookings for 2024 - if it's anything like 2023 you will need to get in quickly.

I was privileged to undertake a hand fasting ceremony as my couple were united in marriage this weekend, so what was it all about? We’ve all heard the expression “tying the knot” so where did it come from. Handfasting is a Celtic ritual that symbolizes unity. The tradition involves a couple's hands being tied together with cords or ribbons as they face each other. Vows are typically exchanged as the hands are bound together. In ancient times, handfasting was actually an engagement ritual. Today, handfasting is performed at the wedding to signify the couple's love and commitment. To add more to the ceremony, ribbons of different colours have different meanings. For example, red represents passion between the couple, healthy fertility, a sense of strength, bravery, and a long life for the marriage.
