Wattle Tree Press is an emerging independent publishing and author services provider based right here on the Central Coast. The brainchild of a local teacher and author, Wattle Tree Press believes everyone has a story (or two!) within them and aims to being Aussie storytelling to the wider world.
To kickstart their creative journey, Wattle Tree Press is holding its inaugural writing competition, asking for submissions of poetry (any form) and prose (story) that creatively explores the theme of ‘Dreaming’.
Entry is open to Australian residents 10yrs +

SYDNEY IN THE SEVENTIES. MISFITS, VISIONARIES, AND HOW LOVE FINDS A WAY.
Street people and celebrities, cross-cultural lovers and interfaith mavericks – all have been warmly welcomed at Sydney’s Wayside Chapel. Founded by the Reverend Ted and Margaret Noffs, whose passion for the family of humanity was equalled by their love for each other, the Wayside Chapel has married over 50,000 couples. Including playwright Alana Valentine‘s own mother.
When Alana discovers the dress that her mother wore to her pre-wedding meeting with Ted, she makes her own vow: to seek out stories of religious rebellion in Australia during the seventies. What unfolds is her excavation of layers of family history, buried under the pressures of conservative religious doctrine, racial segregation and class warfare.
Based on over 50 interviews with real couples married at the Wayside Chapel, Wayside Bride is a communion with a quiet revolution that began in a Kings Cross side street; at weddings where q***r men found in a nearby bar substitute for absent fathers, where rival pastors cry heresy, and where the lonely and discarded are offered a home. August 2000, in a sleepy coastal town with a rundown carnival and more pubs than parks. Tired of hearing about a girl from their school being selected to star in the opening ceremony, five friends decide to make their own mark on the upcoming Sydney 2000 Games by breaking in and getting on "telly" at the Ceremony too - but they almost cause it all to come crashing down. Set amidst the soaring heights of the world’s first defining moment of the new millennium, this story captures the spirit of youthful rebellion and camaraderie.
Multi-award-winning writer Joshua Maxwell returns to their "Southern Skies" series, providing the final work in the trilogy. ‘On A Night Like This’ takes place 19 years prior to the events of ‘Very Happy Children’, and 54 years prior to the events of ‘Space Cadets’.
‘On A Night Like This’ is a hilarious and heartwarming tale of friendship, mischief, and regional life in a time before the world got darker and weirder.
