Wharton & Co are located in Richmond and is owned by Mayor John Wharton AM.

John Wharton has been in the northern cattle industry all his life, having owned cattle properties in the Richmond and Etheridge Shire. He was elected to the Richmond Shire Council in 1991 and went on to become Mayor in 1997. Being the Mayor for 28 years has placed him as the longest serving Mayor presently in Local Government in Queensland.

John manages and operates his own real estate business, Wharton & Co P/L, dealing in property and livestock. He also has an agricultural consultancy business, with experience in a wide range of Agriculture in Northern Australia. These include Beef Cattle, Cropping, Water Infrastructure, Goats, Camels, Pest Control and Land Management. He also has extensive knowledge of road construction and development costs with personal earthmoving experience and pricing knowledge from 26 years in Local Government.

Our Cowboy Auction to support Team Australia on their 2025 International Tours heading to the WCMB, PYRA and New Zealand is NOW LIVE!

The first 20 Items are now available with more items to be added in the coming days.

The funds raised from this will go towards team tracksuits for those on our upcoming WCMB and PYRA tours to the USA in a few short weeks as well as the competitors attending the New Zealand International Challenge in December/January. In addition to this it will also cover some of the memorabilia awards the competitors on the winning team (Team Australia) from the recently held International challenge will receive.

The Youth Rodeo Organisation would like to take this opportunity to offer our congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the Professional Youth Roughstock Association (PYRA) for a very successful and professionally run World Finals event last week!

Over the week of competition, Cade Ferguson was successful in winning both the Novice Saddle Bronc and Novice Bull Ride. In addition to winning seven (7) buckles, prize money, a year’s supply of Rosin supplied by Crawford’s Wicked Stick Rosin, MX Hat and a MX Bull Ropes, Cade also won 2 x $7000 scholarships towards Murray State College. Cade has kindly gifted the scholarships to two Australian Team Members so they can attend the awesome College, that our Australian Bull Rider and last years team member Jake Taylor is currently doing so well at, after Cade did the same with last years similar win.

Reserve Champion Novice Saddle Bronc Rider Thomas Box received a beautiful buckle and prize money, while Novice Saddle Bronc Rider Short Go Winner Charlie Box also received the same.

We would also like to thank the sponsors of the PYRA for all of the beautiful hardware and prize money: Sutherland Bucking Bulls, the Silva Family, Cactus Rodeo Company D and G Cattle Company & Caden Bunch – and anyone else we may have missed!
