We’ve had a bit of a break from the International challenge thank you’s to introduce our next tour applicants.

We will get back to them this week but thought we would post this throw back to a quick photo opportunity at Mount Isa Mines Rodeo this year.

Our director got to catch up with two of our 2024 International Finals Youth Rodeo team competitors Olivia Priestley Halliday and Hope Doyle who both travelled many many miles to catch up with eachother.

To see the friendships formed from these tours not only within our own Country but with those from other Countries is the most rewarding part.

BRONC RIDING ACHIEVEMENTS: World Champion at the 2025 International Finals Youth Rodeo, Reserve World Champion at the 2025 Cinch World Championship Junior Rodeo, 2-time Australian High School Rodeo Bronc Riding Champion, Qualified in the Top Ten at the Junior Rough Stock World Finals in Vegas for the bronc riding for the past two years, Qualified for the Top 20 Short Go at the High School Rodeo Association Finals, Won Round One in the Semi Short Go and the Average at the Professional Youth Rodeo Association.

BULL RIDING ACHIEVEMENTS: Won the Second Round and the Average at the Professional Youth Rodeo Association, 2-time Australian High School Rodeo Bull Riding Qualifier, Qualified for the Top 20 Short Go at the International Final's Youth Rodeo - 5th in the Average, Qualified for the Top 15 Short Go for the past three years at the Youth Bull Ride World Finals getting 5th in the Average and a Round Win last year.

👉 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀?
My aspirations in rodeo are to continue competing at the highest level, refine my skills, and push myself to be one of the best in both bull riding and saddle bronc. I aim to build on my past achievements by qualifying for more elite competitions, securing championship titles, and representing my country on the international stage.

Beyond competition, I want to inspire younger riders, contribute to the growth of the sport, and uphold the values of dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship that rodeo embodies. My ultimate goal is to turn my passion into a professional career and leave a lasting impact on the rodeo world.

To Jordyn O’Toole and Riley O’Dell who purchased most of the Aussie decorations, Team NZ for bringing kiwi decorations, to our big band of helpers from both Team Australia and Team New Zealand who helped pull it all together. With Team USA Youth Rodeo still in the air, we tried to make sure they were well represented on the float as well.

Thank you especially to Tracey McGuigan for taking on the management role and to her sisters Donna and Janelle who stepped in and gave up their valuable and experienced time to help. We are so very grateful.

Also a special thanks to the Rodeo Saddle Shop who paid 4 full time staff to work long 14 hour days from Thursday through to Monday on this venture. Thank you to those staff Vanessa, Jule, Bridget and Craig for being available over this big weekend.

To each and every volunteer who stepped in to cover a shift - you were simply amazing. The future of rodeo committees is strong with such a great group of youth who step in and volunteer their time for ventures such as these.

The Youth Rodeo Organisation generously rewarded each of the volunteers with a meal card to use over the weekend at our fundraising food tent along with one of our Memorabilia International Youth Challenge fishing shirts. In addition to this, the YRO sponsored the meals for the Mini Clinic day in Richmond and the BBQ dinner prepared the same night by Richmond Rodeo Association for the Richmond international challenge series.

We would also like to thank Raps Surf 'n' Turf for donating ice to our fundraiser, Margie at Mount Isa Golf Club for all of her support, to Glen West for flipping burgers all weekend and to Ron Pickering for lending powerboards and extension leads, and for collecting hire equipment and sandwiches for us.

We were again faced with too many challenges to list in the lead up to make this all happen, and just overcame each one as we were faced with it, and will try to work through some that will make it easier for next time.

While the financial side wasn't very successful simply due to over catering, and the initial outlay for such a big project, the many memories made while volunteering, friendships formed and bellies filled to us was far more important - and I’m sure there will be many stories told in the future about the fun time spent in the YRO food tent at Isa Rodeo.

We will be doing some smaller jobs in the very near future to try to recover some of the additional expenses we had. So, if you are needing a hamburger, cold drinks and coffee stand at your next event also please contact us.

Our next attempt if there are any volunteers available for the weekend of the Cloncurry Beat the Heat Festival between 12-14 September - so, please reach out by PM if you are free to assist.

Firstly, to accommodate our 50 odd international guests at Mount Isa Mines Rodeo, “International Tent City” was formed as the first massive project.

Thanks to Steve McGuigan for taking on the project leader job .

This mammoth task didn't come without its fair share of challenges.

The main goal was to try to have the international Tent City with some shade, particularly for our NZ guests coming straight from the extreme cold to what would almost be like their summer days.

The other goal was to try to have it as close as we could to all the horses from the Australian team members that the internationals were borrowing for the challenge - especially with the 5.30am starts to get ready and horses warmed up to be at the arena by 6.30am each morning.

Hats off to Steve who tried to fight what in the end was the losing battle for us to keep the promised spots.

But all credit to him, he worked with what he had only to be faced with the next challenge - the original tents ordered for tent city not turning up until after the fact (two weeks later than they were supposed to).

So, at the last minute additional tents were purchased (albeit smaller than the original ones). But with limited stock available, we took what was available. Ron Pickering then came to the rescue with several gazebo’s which we were also able to purchase additional side tents for - which worked amazingly and then gave some much needed shade to the teams. (thanks to Holly Bryant for also helping source these)

Them a pretty cool dressing room gazebo was assembled complete with individual change rooms, make-up mirrors and charging points, along with a communal eating area complete with fairy lights for evening meals.

Special thanks to the assembly crew who kicked in particularly to Craig Hodgetts, Ron Pickering, Rhys O’toole and Ethan Michaelis who spent a significant amount of time setting up with Steve. Also thanks to the many other Australian team members and families who assisted in any way to get it up in time for the guests arrival.

All in all, despite the challenges, we were wrapped with the efforts - especially with what we had to work with - and hopefully we wont be faced with those same challenges in the future.
