A hugely successful inaugural Devil's Lair 2022 has wrapped up in Hobart tonight, with World Number One Jason Belmonte crowned Champion after defeating Kyle Troup of the United State in the Final.

A full-house once again packed 'Belmo's Arena' at Zone Bowling in Moonah. The three-day event staged by Strike 3 Bowling and supported by Events Tasmania has put the sport well and truly in the spotlight in Tasmania.

McEwan Scores Huge win over Belmonte on Night Two

A full-house saw American Danielle McEwan rocket back into contention on Day 2 of Devil’s Lair Tasmania, with three wins from three, with the highlight being a sensational 231-209 win over birthday boy & world number one player, Jason Belmonte.
McEwan, finished Day One winless, but now finds herself just one win behind Belmonte, Daria Pajak of Poland & fellow American Kyle Troup.

It sets up a mouthwatering final day at Zone Bowling in Moonah, for the final round of matches which gets underway at 12:30pm; the evening session, which will include the stepladder Finals format, is due to begin at 5:30pm.

Swede Jesper Svensson Fanpage secured a tight win over Belmonte in the opening match of the evening, whilst Poland’s Daria Pajak scored two wins to sit on eight points.In the tightest contest of the night, Kyle Troup defeated Jesper Svensson by the narrowest of margins in a 220-219 classic.

The crowd have been treated to exceptional bowling over the opening two nights, as bowling fans young & old revel in seeing the greats of world tenpin bowling at a level not seen before in this country.

Norm Duke Retires

It is with great sadness, and after many discussions with Norm that we advise Norm has made the decision to not board the plane to Tasmania this weekend to be in Hobart for the inaugural Devil's Lair Tasmania. Had the COVID pandemic not cancelled two years of the event, Norm would have certainly played in at least one of these, however the delays combined with the impact of COVID on safe plane travel and that three years on, Norm has also made the decision to retire from the PBA Tour, which has ultimately led to his tough decision to not make the long 30-hour trip to Hobart.

Whilst we are naturally disappointed, we also understand Norm's reasons, some three years after we initially met Norm at Bowl Expo in Las Vegas in 2019.

The first for Australia, the Devil's Lair Tasmania still promises to be an amazing showcase of our sport by some of the world's best players, including the current PBA Bowler of Year, Kyle Troup, who also set a prizemoney record last year winning $US496,900 ($AUS720,300). Seeing Troup play Belmo in Hobart at Zone Bowling Moonah will be well and truly worth the two year wait for the Devil's Lair to finally get underway next Thursday night from 5.30pm.
