Our Next Poet, QAWAQ!!!

Born on Wurrundjeri country in Naarm (Melbourne) to a Nigerian father and Italian mother, Qawaq is new to sharing her artistry on stage through poetry, music and dance. Only sharing performing publicly for the first time a couple weeks ago at the Cairns poetry slam, she has decided after several years of ill health, that life is too precious to keep holding back and playing small. Qawaq goes by the artist name of Celestielle108 and likes to reflect the times and take you deep on a journey to make you think about existentialism, humanity, and world issues.

A Familiar face to regulars of the Cairns Slam, this volatile, mouthy, crude, crass and aggressive poet is liable to punch her way out a throttle a verse. Like a fist in a velvet glove, she juxtaposes beautiful imagery against raw, and relatable vulnerability.

Introducing our sacrificial poet Mo Zach!

Before there was Cairns Slam, there was Mo Zach.

A true FNQ local, he built the foundations of the Cairns poetry scene. It's because of Zach that we've seen the community THRIVE as it has over the last year! The Villain in the Rainforest from Kuranda, Zach is a poet, performer, artist, musician, anarchist, producer.

We are incredibly proud to have him sharing with us this Wednesday!

Introducing our next Slammer Tony Quinn!

Tony is 57 years young (Though we wouldn't believe him at first) and performed his poetry for the first time ever with us less than a year ago! We immediately fell in love with his comedic, yet powerful stories and sincere (if slightly nervous) delivery. Proud father to four kids (who are all grown up and very accomplished), Tony has spent the last 20 years in Cairns growing his family business Quinny's. Exercise enthusiast, tired and tested triathlon titan, and even an ironman entrant, Tony is sure to give us all a run!

Lincoln Whole Heartedly attempts to use lyricism as sieve for madness. A Lyrical Lunatic, she was Sunshine Coast’ Lyrics Lyrics winner back to back year in 2019/20 as well as a Queensland Poetry Slam finalist in 2023.

She aims to translate emotion into articulation whether on stage, in the pages of her novel or on stickers all over QLD rest stops.

Morganics is an award-winning Hip-Hop artist, spoken word performer, director, and community arts worker.

As an MC, beatboxer, Bboy, producer, and Hip-Hop Theatre artist he has performed from New York to London, from Sydney to Prague.

Morganics has worked extensively with Indigenous communities throughout Australia, in juvenile and adult jails, with disabled and refugee groups and produced an album for ex-street kids in Tanzania. His Hip Hop feature film “Survival Tactics” and new EP “Dusty Gems” are out now with his book “Hip Hop Is My Passport” and EP “Rhythms and Poetry” coming soon.

Who is Josh Cake???

Our First ever interstate artist, Josh (Victoria) is an uplifting comedic poet playing with intersections between race, nationality, and gender. The best joke Josh ever told was during a terrorist attack in Paris in 2015. He will tell this joke, other jokes, and sing songs containing jokes.

Josh Cake (any pronouns) has external identities of brown, Australian, man. All of these are scams and Josh feels no internal connection to any of them. Josh is sticking with Australian for the strong passport, sticking with man for the numerous benefits, and sticking with brown because that one is too hard to modify.

Josh will consider other options if offered a better deal.

He's won several awards in Comedy, Cabaret and Poetry. We're so excited to share some of Australia's best spoken word with our FNQ community!
