Missed out on flowers last week. Wasnβt going to let that happen again. They still look stunning. Flowers provided by and lovingly put together by and a few generous volunteers who donated their time on a Thursday. Once delivered to the venue, amazing stylist brought it all together to make the tables look spectacular. More photos to come when I get them from the photographer.

I hate wastage so you will almost always find me handing out floral arrangements at the end of a gala or ball. Now, usually there are still some left for me to take and enjoy and I even drop them at nursing homes in my area to brighten the old folks days a bit. The problem with having an amazing florist however is that everyone else wants the flowers too. So last night I came home empty handed. Sorry old people - no flowers this week. I blame Amanda . π β€οΈ πΉ
Took some time out from work today to celebrate little miss first communion. We are not a particularly religious family but it was her wish to do it so we obliged.

Not the best weekend but we are alive and kicking. Well maybe not the kicking part π. If I have learned one thing out of all of this itβs that mums need to look after themselves more. I have ignored a cough for weeks and it turned into pneumonia which now turned into inflammation in the lining of my left lung which is by far the worst pain I have ever experienced. And I have two kids. Every time I cough, it feels like Iβm being stabbed straight in the heart. Every time I move, the pain is there. I take a deep breath - the pain is there. Drs said thatβs itβs because I left it all untreated for so long.

I took some time out of my schedule today to attend a networking event hosted by Hobsons Bay City Council and I am glad I did.
I don't usually attend networking events because I am an introvert and the idea of entering a room full of strangers and make conversation freaks me out.
2024 for me is all about growth and pushing myself out of my comfort zone has to be a part of this I believe. So, I am congratulating myself for being a "big girl" today and getting myself out there.
I was amazed by the variety of small business operating out of Hobsons Bay - some of them I had never heard of. This immediately got my event brain ticking because I love supporting small businesses and I am sure there is something I can come up with ;-)
It was also great to see to some familiar faces - which gave me a bit of security as well!!!
I am joining Scott's Bricklaying in taking the long weekend off.

I AM SORRY!
Since I have returned from seeing my family, I have been ever consumed by the horrible horrible things happening in the world right now.
My brain doesn't understand how I am travelling around the world, when there are children being burned alive in front of their parents. My brain doesn't understand how I am supposed to just go on with my life, when all I can think about are those pure little souls who have done no wrong.
How can anyone (even those not in their right mind) think that ANY of this is even remotely acceptable? How can we not stop this? How are politics more important than those kids? How is nobody stopping this? I might be a bit naive here but how can we fly to the fricking moon but not stop this s**t from happening?
These kids are innocent. They deserve to grow up having a good childhood with love and laughter. Just like my children. What have they done to deserve this? Being born on the wrong continent? With the wrong skin colour? THAT WAS NOT THEIR CHOICE.
I am so angry and hurt. Sorry to put this on my business page but I just needed to say it.

Unfortunately, the stars did not align and I won't be able to go. It is such a great event for anyone in the meetings and events industry.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mums and female role models out there.
I am so very excited that I get to celebrate with my mum this year. It sure has been a hot minute. Instead of having flowers and chocolates delivered, I can take her out for the day to show her how much we love and appreciate her.
I didn't realise how much I still need my mum until I became one myself. 9 years into this journey, I still often wish she was closer.
If you are ever in Germany and want to meet my mum, book a room in her hotel Hotel St. Georg which is a little slice of heaven, and the breakfast buffet is totally the bees' knees.

Todays task - Ticketing!
I am setting up the ticketing for Australian Workers' Union - Victorian Branch today.
The client had been working with Eventbrite even before I got involved, so we have decided to stick with this as it has served us well in the past and event attendees know how to use it now.
This year the challenge will be to have two events linked to on another yet still be separate π€―. I actually really enjoy working this kind of stuff out!
I am super flexible when it comes to which platform to use. I have worked with most of them in my time and the differences are minimal IMO.

This was after last years' Friend in Me "Unmasked" gala.
We have just started working on this years' event which will be held at the wonderful Plaza Ballroom in the city. The design of this room compliments the theme of the event so perfectly - we couldn't not go there.
Super excited to be doing bits and pieces while I am away before diving in upon my return.
Remember, I only have a few limited spots available for this year, so if you are thinking of hosting a workshop or treating your team to a end-of-year shindig, get in touch sooner rather than later. Books are also open for 2 more conferences / events for term 1, 2025.
I am taking my little guy home to see family and I cannot wait. ββββββββββββββββββFrom May 9th until May 28th, I will not be in Australia. Does that mean I won't be working? I wish. As a small business owner, we often don't have the luxury of just switching off. While we are on holidays, we need to worry about work coming in for the weeks and months after we get back.
I can't afford to not reply to emails coming in and possibly losing work because of it.
What I can do is switch of my phone. I am still reachable but just not at the drop of a hat. I will reply, however it might take a little longer than usual.
My books are now full until early September but I am happy to discuss any event needs you may have from September onwards.

There are also other ways to measure success. I have listed a few of them below:
a) Lead Generation (often used for trade shows and conferences)
b) Feeback (for free events, feedback from attendees can be very helpful to measure your performance and help you improve on your delivery)
c) Attendance / Buy-in (sometimes the amount of people attending / not attending can give you some valuable insights about the morale in your organisation.

The one thing that is more important in events than it ever has been? ββββββββ ββββββββ BEING FLEXIBLE. ββββββββ ββββββββ Events are unpredictable at the best of times. I always recommend not putting any tasks off because "there is still time". Let me tell you, in those last two weeks beforehand, there is going to be a lot of stuff happening that you didn't anticipate. Do what you can as early as possible so you have the time and head space with all that unexpected stuff. And if nothing happens? Well then you are super well prepared and lucky and you can just sit back and relax. ββββββββ ββββββββ I hate when suppliers tell me that I come to them so early and there is still so much time to confirm things. NOPE. Lock it in so I can tick it off my list LOLββββββββ ββββββββ Anyway, now with COVID and even more uncertainty around, it makes it near impossible to plan for anything. We need to be prepared for last-minute changes. We need to be adaptable. A lot of issues we are seeing are still COVID related in one way or the other and we are far from "out of the woods". ββββββββ ββββββββ BUT, it is not only us who have to be flexible and ready to accept change. It is also YOU. The clients. The people attending our events. We are all excited about being able to do stuff again but unfortunately things don't always go to plan and there is a high chance that something you expected might not happen. Be patient, be kind and most importantly don't let little things ruin your entire event experience. ββββββββ ββββββββ I know for a fact, that us event people are trying to learn how to navigate this beast and let me tell you - it is not easy and it is not fun. But I also have two little children which means there is always mess. I canβt afford a bigger house or office, so I moved the mess to the bedroom today. My entire bedroom floor is now covered in washing which needs to be folded π #killingitatlife So this is what we sacrifice for YOU. Went to Queenscliff today. Had a terrible time π Jokes - it really is the most gorgeous little town. @seaviewhouse is in the best location, there is something for everyone. I have left a few hours of free time in our itinerary which is perfect to explore what this town has to offer. Bookshop, OP shop, ice cream shops, bars, retail outlets, all just a stone throw away. Wake to the lighthouse (there are 2) or just sit on the beach and listen to the waves. I was only there for a day and already feel replenished (even though I had the kids with me). Donβt miss out.
