Well that was a mad night.
The Garage Popes performed their debut gig. The venue provided the drum kit, which had worked out well with Spicy Jyā Jyā Men two weeks ago. This week parts were missing. Also the Popes were double booked. No worries the Popes were set up first but thought that we could share the gig ie. Popes do a set and the “Rougettes” do the next set but when I spoke to them about it they didn’t want to play, being happy to have a few beers. The drummer of “The Rougettes” went to great lengths to get the necessary drum parts and we performed a successful first set. After the first set the “Rougettes” went home and took their drum parts with them. What to do for the next set? Our drummer, Pope Peter, couldn’t see himself drumming and we discussed what we would do. Myself and the bass player, “Pope Philip” decided that we would play a couple of songs sans drummer and see how it goes. We started the second set, it was going OK and some guy out of the crowd got up on the drums and started drumming with luminous drum sticks (bizarre), he had happened to do a charcoal sketch of our first set, a good one too. Man, he did a great job and we finished a successful 2nd set. Enter Pope Peter for the third set and voila, end of section, Great gig.
I have to say that many other things transpired throughout the night. Some Karioki contests, all very funny, we just had a great night.
And thank you to all of our friends who came along .
