Each day in February I'm hitting the water for SurFebruary and raising funds for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.
I have a wonderful extended family, many of whom have, or are currently, riding the cancer dumper. Last Sunday I spent 12 hours overnight with one of those cousins as she attempted sleep and relief from the constant pain she is experiencing due to advanced cancer. This Saturday night will be the same. For me, it's what we do for our loved ones, for her, it's just so unfair!
This woman is extraordinary - a pillar of her community and a treasured member of our family unit. She is suffering 24/7 with no positive outcome in sight, so she's returned home with round-the-clock rostered family and friend care so she can at least have her back rubbed and feet massaged. Not too much to ask ...
Her wish is to be done with all this. My wish is that she hadn't been diagnosed in the first place. Surely a cure for this hideous disease is not too far off.
If I can raise stacks of money for this cause by simply splashing around in my happy place every day of February, and many others do the same, the result should certainly benefit those scientists who are spending their lives attempting to find that cure, so please donate what you can. Every little bit helps so please go to the link below and donate to my profile. Thanks in advance.
