WA Production Cars Round Wrap-Up – Jim Gellan Goes 3 for 3!

Jim Gellan took out the round win in his brand-new Evo, proving that maybe—just maybe—Grant’s turbo fanfare is rubbing off on him. Could this be the start of an AWD love affair? Who knows, maybe he’ll end up liking it more than his new Mustang… but we won’t bring that up too much (yet).

The former state champ showed exactly why he holds that title, putting in a masterclass of consistency with three race wins from three starts. A flawless performance—just like his launch control!

Well done, Jim! Now the real question is: Will the Mustang be up for sale soon?

The Champ is Back!

State champion Damien Croxon made his return in the DC Auto Centre Renault Megane, proving once again that consistency is key—locking in 2nd place for the event!

As always, he was smooth, fast, and calculated, but traffic in the mixed field meant he just couldn’t quite make the moves he needed. Still, solid points in the bank, and we all know this Renault loves stretching its legs.

Next stop: Collie, 22-23 March—let’s see if he can shake off the traffic and put that Megane where it belongs!

Mr. Luxe Performance Does It Again!

Fresh off a big night celebrating his anniversary (we’ll assume it was very romantic), Brent Peters somehow managed to roll his new M3 Production Car onto the grid for the season opener—because why sleep when you can race?

Like all last-minute missions, there were a few “character-building” moments, but by Race 2, the Bavarian battle tank showed its true pace with a fastest lap. By Race 3, Brent was P2—not bad for a car that still thinks it’s a luxury sedan.

Plenty to tweak, including some much-needed brake ducting (turns out, stopping is important). Can’t wait to see the weight come out of this beast and the lap times drop!

Laurie’s Night Masters Madness!

Laurie “Legs 11” turned back the clock in the UMIG RX-8 at Night Masters, putting on a fire-breathing show that had the crowd on their feet—literally, some were dodging rotary flames!

Fun fact: His lap times were eerily close to his first race in the RX-2… back in 1979! Either he’s discovered the fountain of youth, or he’s been sandbagging this whole time.

Between scorching laps and clocking an amazing club lunch, Laurie’s still got it! Stoked to have his support for the category—legend on and off the track.

Kye’s Night Masters Debrief: Clio Chaos & Grass Cutting Services

A bit of a nervous start for Kye as he rolled out in the Renault Clio RS, freshly modified and future-proofed—because who doesn’t love throwing new parts at a car and hoping for the best? Tyre supply issues meant he was running on what can only be described as hockey pucks, so grip was more of a suggestion than a reality.

Once on track, nerves settled, and the Clio got stuck into some great battles with the IP cars. Discovered the fine art of rear brake locking (a valuable lesson), but the real highlight? Mowing the pit straight lawn while dodging a stalled Chris Pavy on the grid—gotta keep WASCC’s landscaping budget in check. Managed to recover, find first gear, channel his inner Scott McLaughlin, give it some jandal, and send it!

Massive thanks to the WA Production Cars crew for the solid turnout, and to Phoebe for keeping Kye fed and functional. A cracking way to kick off the year—bring on the next one!

Kevin + VF + Nightmaster Race = PURE CHAOS!

Picture this: Tiny, his trusty VF Commodore, and a WA Production Cars night race. What could possibly go wrong? Well… let’s just say the headlights worked most of the time, the tires mostly had grip, and Kevin kind of knew where the track was.

With the VF roaring through the darkness like a V8-powered searchlight, Kevin put on a show that had everyone questioning whether he was racing or auditioning for a new Mad Max movie. Either way, he survived (somehow), the car’s still in one piece (mostly), and we can’t wait for the next round of night-time shenanigans!

Mini Mayhem: Michael Takes on His First Production Car Race!

Michael’s first outing in his new MINI is in the books, and let’s just say—this little pocket rocket is already making waves!

Race 2 saw a thrilling duel with an RX-8, where the MINI flexed its braking and cornering prowess, while the Mazda showed off its straight-line speed. It was a battle of agility vs. horsepower, but in the end, the RX-8 just crossed the line first (we suspect turbo button foul play).

Huge thanks from Michael to the WA Production Cars crew for the warm welcome, his pit crew (aka Dad), Melissa Suero for helping bring the MINI to life, the supporters trackside, and of course, his #1 fan, Josie!

One race down—plenty more MINI adventures to come!

Weekend Wrap-Up: Racing Under Lights

Despite a few delays with a packed grids, we just made it to the bar for one drink before closing—small victories, right?
Jim took the top step in his shiny new Evo, though the celebrations were cut short by yet another round of “oops, didn’t see you there” moments.

Damo brought it home in P2, while Brent wrestled the new M3 onto the podium in third. He and Damo had a good old-fashioned swapsy in Race 3, with Brent finally figuring out which buttons to press in the M3. The data says the car is on point—so expect him to be causing trouble at the pointy end soon. 2024 MA blocks also delivered cheers Mike for the Fan fare

Kev’s car decided power was optional, Kye’s still exorcising last season’s demons (and now needs to master the ancient art of tyre supply and demand), while Michael’s new Mini and Laurie’s RX-8 had a solid run all night. Also, those new LED signboards? Chef’s kiss.

We’re not leaving the best till last, but after some gentle arm twisting (and maybe a little bribery), our Club President Brent Peters has thrown his hat in the ring with his brand new M3!

With his national championship-winning Commodores tearing it up over east, he figured—why not? And despite this being his 10-year wedding anniversary, his beautiful wife is 100% behind him… probably because she knows how this goes!

Fun fact: On their very first night together 18 years ago, he made sure she got on the coach with some water to sober up… while he pulled an all-nighter painting a drift car. True romance at its finest! ❤️🏎️

Kye McPherson is Back –
After a big off-season of mods, Kye McPherson is back in his Clio and ready to get it humming! Despite working away, he always makes time for the committee—dedicated as you’d expect from an old stoker.

Now, we’re not saying Kye is complicated… but he drives a French car and can’t eat gluten. Wee wee, gluten fwee! 😆

Looking forward to seeing him and the Clio back on track!

WA Production Cars is pumped to welcome back one of WAs longest-serving drivers, Laurie Whittome! You’ll see Laurie hitting the track at Round 1 in his UMIG RX-8, while the final touches are made on his brand-new Mustang.

Most of you know Laurie for his commitment to racing, but what you might not know is his love for the Perth heat—so much so that you’ll never catch him in long pants! Rain, hail, or 40-degree scorchers, Laurie’s shorts game remains undefeated.

Great to have you back on the grid, mate! See you at Round 1.

Our inaugural WA Production Cars State Champion is back—this time behind the wheel of his fresh Evo! Rumors of a Mustang lurking in the shadows? We’ll believe it when we see it.

One thing’s for sure: despite the commentators’ curse, committee member is NOT his granddaughter (but we’re loving the ongoing confusion).

WA Production Cars - Welcome Back, Big Kev!

Big Kev—aka Tiny—is back for the 2025 season in his badass A2 VF, and we’re stoked to see him back in action! This beast comes from the same stable as Chris’ record-setting VF, so we’re keen to see Kev get closer to that lap record as the season unfolds.

If you spot him in the pits, make sure to check out the car and say g’day—Kev’s got a world of experience behind the wheel and even speaks fluent Arabic among his many talents. Let’s see what he and the VF can do this year!

Welcome Michael Woodhead to WA Production Cars!

Michael is hitting the grid in his freshly built ‘no 98 Mini—a brand-new addition to the category, and we can’t wait to see how he goes! He’s stepped up from Excels (funny enough, for less money 😂) and is already a legend in the pits, armed with almost every Simpsons quote on demand.

In true Mini spirit, we’ll leave you with a classic: “Speed holes! They make the car go faster!” – Homer Simpson.
