Benazzoli Bardolino Corvina Rondinella 2019

Predominantly Corvina with a 20% addition of Rondinella, from the shores of Lake Garda in Veneto.

Founded by Claudia and Giulia Benazzoli, the sisters aim to reflect their terroir with a delicate touch.

Continuing a family history of winegrowing in and around the Veneto and with a determination to faithfully represent their region, in 2006 Claudia and Giulia Benazzoli founded Az. Agr. Benazzoli. Trained in viticulture and oenology (respectively), the sisters’ aim is to reflect their terroir in a light-handed way that both honours tradition and embraces innovation.

This is bright, vibrant, lifted, fragrant, and spicy with red berries and a graphite-like minerality.

A beautiful wine from the Valley of Aosta in Italy. A stunning expression of the Pinot Noir grape - excellent winemaking and terroir is displayed in the elegance and structure of this wine.

The minerality and the freshness that comes from the clay soils of Priorat.

A dry red blend of the region’s traditional varieties Grenache Noir (75 %) and Carignan

The Grenache fruit shines with a wild beauty, elegance and whimsy untouched by any oak contact. Enticing aromas of crunchy cherry and blackberry lead into herbs and deep spice and a wee bit of licorice.

A wine of elegance and finesse, woven with fine-grained tannins and a lmineral finish. Oh gosh.
So good. Yum.

Agh! I clearly can’t get enough of Sadie’s brilliant winemaking.
Here we have his signature white, Palladius. A blend of all eleven of Swartland's official white varieties, with old, bush-vine Chenin Blanc playing the principal role. Culled from 17 separate vineyard sites, the full list takes in Grenache Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Viognier, Verdelho, Roussanne, Marsanne, Semillon Blanc, Palomino and Colombard, as well as the hyper-rare Semillon Gris.

An incredibly delicious and fascinating wine that stands out in his vineyards and winemaking. A wine you could spend hours picking apart due to its complexity. What really gets me is how he focuses on the deep phenolic freshness to structure the wine rather than its acidity.

Fruit sorted and pressed in a traditional basket press directly into clay amphoras and concrete eggs. The wine finishes fermenting in its own time, after which the wine goes into large wooden foudre to finish its maturation before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Throughout the season, Sadie's major goal is to "try and get the maximum volume of compact fruit and texture, together with the best potential volume of acidity and freshness."

Such breadth and texture, perfumed, complex and fleshy, with pear and honeysuckle, something resinous and then a long spicy, herbaceous finish.

I was particularly excited with this Priorat when I saw it on the list .4u
One of the most exciting Priorat's on the market. It has a clear Burgundian sensibility and light-handed touch (with new wood, extraction and ripeness) that may not be what you expect when you see Priorat on the label.
These are age-worthy, contemplative and etherial wines worth everyone’s attention.

I may be biased, but I feel that anything South African, Eben Sadie touches, turns to gold.
This Carignan, is full of fresh berry aromas that are like jam and spice notes. Toasty coffee aromas lead into a full intense palate with a nice grip on the tannins.

Deep, savory flavors of roasted plum and spice makes for quite the complex finish.

Such power and elegance. Gosh these guys are good.

Castro Martin Albariño Sobre Lias 2019
Castro Martin certainly is a benchmark Albarino producer that exemplifies the cool, damp coastal granite of Val do Salnes, the birthplace and sub-region home to the purest of Albariños in Rias Baixas just north of Portugal on the Atlantic coast.

A mouthwatering medley of field herbs, melon, lime with minerality and refreshingly powerful acidity.

This is the northernmost region where it can ripen so this is racy and minerally, the ‘Yin’ of albarino.

It is all structure and elegance with a more-ish saline lick ‘gracias’ to its proximity to the Atlantic.

Notice it says it is “Sobre Lias” which means “on the lees”. An extended ageing process that is applied to every wine made at Castro Martin. Without getting too nerdy, these lees, leftover from fermentation, help intensify their wines by adding richness, flavour and aroma complexity. They also help create a creamy, silky smooth mouthfeel and texture to the body of the wine. They ALSO enhance stability and increase the ageing potential of the wines.

Beautiful savoury pear, with yellowed straw and apple cider on the nose.
I love how savoury, rich and textural it is. The fruit is more pear- apple skin plus floral nectar which stand up to the lees ageing savoury mouthfeel.

Certainly a summer sipping wine I highly recommend.

Jacques Lassaigne Les Vignes de Montgueux Champagne.

Had the pleasure to try this liquid drop of gold this evening.
Such a divine, thoughtful and exciting champagne made by Emmanuel Lassaigne.

Working with the chalky south and south-east facing slopes of Montgeux.
Farming in his vineyards is organic. In the cellar, the wines ferment in wood and stainless steel, and they're disgorged by hand without dosage.

Made with 100% Chardonnay grape, the style is powerful, structured and stimulating at the same time. Vinous but also racy and electric.

Crystalline clear, light and fresh. Very delicate, pure and finessed on the palate, this is a light but serious aperitif Champagne with such purity and mineral, flinty freshness in the finish.

Agh. I cannot recommend this more. Pure drop of love in a glass. Nom!

One of my favourites. Really enjoying German wines this hot minute.

Wunderwerk translated could mean quite a few things… Ingenious… Miracle… Masterpiece….a Marvel? Take your pick, because they all work for this stunning Pinot Noir – or in German - Spätburgunder.

Aged for two years in a combination of French and Austrian oak barrels, this red feels like the perfect combination of Old World style and New World skill.

Velvety smooth, but also refreshingly crisp, there’s summery raspberry, strawberry and cherry fruits, then beneath just the slightest hint of savoury soy sauce, mushroom, smoke and Chinese five spice.
Another superbly versatile wine that can be sipped on its own, with slow-cooked stews, Peking duck (a great wine I love to suggest .wongsydney) … game or roast lamb.

Jochen Dreissigacker uses biodynamic principles in order to create the optimal conditions for the grapes to thrive – an approach that he describes as “a long-term investment in nature and wines”. The result is wines with incredible force and bright, long-lasting purity.

This producer is very well known for his rieslings.
A very decent Pinot from the Mosel in Germany.
Juicy, delicate, refreshing, crunchy/flinty slate aromas. Bursting with red fruits, coffee and vanilla , caramelized sugar and super high acidity.
Silly textured and fine yet full of tension.
Love me some Germany Pinots! I highly recommend taking that plunge folks!

100% Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley.
Organic biodynamic certified.

A classic Cabernet Franc which I absolutely love. Being the the parent grape of both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, complex reds result, with signature aromas of raspberry, bramble, and bell pepper. The wine is super energizing an fresh due to its vibrant fruit.
Definitely stood up to the steak we had it with!
