A play on Tall Poppy Syndrome, Small Poppy is run by Adelaide musician and music enthusiast Ben Whaley whose mission is to nurture the existing local talent within the Adelaide and Australia, with a focus of collaboration and community at the heart. The goal is to help boost our thriving scene, and show up-and-coming musicians there are plenty of opportunities available on their doorstep through h

osting live music events and coaching musicians to better promote their releases (with some professional promotion along the way). Through release strategies, career coaching, PR pitching, event planning or just some moral support, I'll help you reach your goals collaboratively and help your vision be the best version you've always wanted it to be.

There's a lot of people that i'd like to thank for making the launch party such a wholesome and wonderful evening. Firstly, the MDO & Annika Burnside for helping me get my feet and start this project, I wouldn't have gotten here without you.

The incredible artists that performed for us all, you're all very talented and I can't wait to see what is on the horizon for you.

My event team and sponsors, Jack Bielby, Mariah Anzil, Tom Matheson, Pirate Life Brewing, Lion Arts Factory and City of Adelaide. You all were a huge helping hand and allowed the cogs to turn so easily.

Lastly, everyone that bought a ticket and came along, anyone who has sent or said words of praise to me, anyone watching from their phone screens or supporting from a distance. I appreciate every one of you and I can't wait to move on to the next gig!

Finishing off the evening will be the wonderful Paradise Club. Blooming onto the Adelaide scene in 2017, they instantly stood out as a DIY force - everything from writing to recording to producing the accompanying music videos, the band had it covered.
They’ve just finished up a national tour with Between You and Me and previously supported the likes of Trophy Eyes, Endless Heights & Ocean Alley.
Their Debut self-titled Album released through Farmer & The Owl is a back to back treat and one of my favourite Adelaide releases. They’re a phenomenal band and I'm so excited for you to see them on Saturday.

Choosing Sides are one of the most energetic and contagiously fun acts to recently emerge on the Australian indie-rock scene.

Having spent part of their childhood in the UK, brothers Will and Frankie cannot help but add a sprinkle of Brit-Pop-esque charm and alt-rock grit into their Aus indie inspired sound.

I've been a fan of their stuff for long time and am super excited for them to be a part of the launch!

Nuclear Family are a four-piece indie emo rock band that makes introspective songs about identity and personal growth. With a focus on clean, texture-driven songwriting, their live shows aim to honour the spirit of their songs about feeling. Next up is Sour Sob, a kinda sour alternative indie-rock band who Mix gentle, sweet melodies with chaotic instrumentals occasionally joined by violin or synth. I first saw them at a Uni Bar show a few months ago and loved their presence and songwriting, they're definitely one to keep an eye on! FFO: Pavement, Pinegrove & Alex G.

Our first act playing the launch is Oliver Miller, playing songs from a range of his projects, both old and new. I first fell in love with his lofi indie/folk rock EP back in 2018, but have since shared the stage in Dress Code (RIP). FFO: Alex G, Elliot Smith, A War on Drugs.
