When you lower your prices you done just undervalue yourself, you undervalue the whole floral industry. Because you send a message to clients that a)our prices are negotiable and b)they can expect to get it at a price level that isn’t realistic.

Remember that it doesn’t matter how experienced you are - flowers cost the same for all florists.

And floristry is a BUSINESS and businesses are SUPPOSED to make money.

Instead of getting drawn into the price haggling war to win a job:
1. Communicate your value
2. Build genuine connections with your clients
3. Educate your audience

If you focus on these 3 things in all of your content, marketing and communication - we can attract our ideal clients AND we can lift this industry (and our businesses) up to a higher standard.

3 YEARS OF THE FLORAL ART ACADEMY 🌷🥳🥰🌷

Thank you to everyone who’s come ‘through the doors’ of The Floral Art Academy in the last 3 years physically or digitally. Thanks for allowing me to do this with you and call it work, because it really is some of my best and favourite work.

And even bigger is the props to YOU! It is the greatest joy to watch you bloom with everything you’ve learnt here as fertiliser to flourish!
(Wouldn’t be me without some flower puns 🤭)

Repeat after me - you are not obliged to work in the rain, in intense unsafe wind or in 40 degrees or under an uncovered clear marquee in 35 degree heat (because it will actually be 55+ under the roof and you and your blooms will wilt).

Hands up if you’re ever had sh*t go wrong on a wedding day and some legend of a friendor has helped you get it across the line?🙋🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🫶🏻

Definitely me - more than once!

High five if you’ve also been the friendor swooping in like an angel in someone’s hour of need 🙌🏼🙌🏼 (also me).

At the end of the day - we’re all working towards the same goal, so if one of us isn’t ready - the whole show isn’t ready.

Be the vendor you’d want around on a bad day and the days will always seem less stressful.

27 November 2019.
On this day 5 years ago I did my last day as a corporate employee.

I was 25 weeks pregnant with my first baby (Miss Maeve) and I finished up, taking what was left of my long service leave from 14 years in state government and then would be taking a short mat leave and then it would be all business and baby 🥰

We didn’t know Covid was about to hit, we didn’t know what trials the event industry would go through, we didn’t know how much our lives would change with a baby, we didn’t know what being full time in the business would look like. But we did know it was the right time to go all in. Because I had planned for it, put money aside and done the math on what we needed as a family financially.

Within the next 12 months, despite Covid - my business grew in such a beautiful way, out of my home and into a workspace. I took it more seriously than I ever had before knowing it was now my sole income, knowing what kind of success I wanted it to be.

Looking back on the past 5 years - I’m so proud of where the business is and where I am at in this beautiful phase of life. Some of it was planned, and some of it has been the opportunities that have opened up before me as I’ve opened up to let them in. And that’s the beauty of small business ownership- one of the biggest personal development journeys you’ll ever go on (second only to parenting).

If you’re currently balancing along the tightrope of full time or part time work and running a business, babe, I’ve been there, I see you and I know what that’s like. And if you’re putting on your goal list to move into your business full time next year - my love I would adore to support you in bringing that goal to fruition.
