Hello Narrabri!
My favourite native flowers - Acacias and some other little cuties at the beautiful Mt Kaputar. I met with “The Grain Girls” from Sydney Uni, as well as some exchange students from the University of Bath UK , who are doing some important research work with Native Grains. These ladies are a powerhouse! I’m in awe 🫡

An Ode to Autumn…
Garden gathered, with all of it’s wayward imperfections.
As first term comes to a close, I reflect with gladness upon all of the new people I have had the privilege of working with, each one a new blossom in my lifelong garden.
Today I’m playing with dahlias, delphiniums, rosella, basil, geranium. And pumpkins! A nice little holiday vignette for my kitchen. 🧡

{LITTLE HANDS}
My little people made this beautiful arrangement to celebrate a very beloved educator’s birthday. Happiest of days, Michelle! Thank you for sprinkling your joyful magic over us every single day!
Using a ceramic bowl and Kanzen I bought in Japan, each child bought a flower from their garden and placed it in. It made my day to hear the children coming through the gate and tell me the name of their flower and the story of why they chose it. They were so excited to share their surprise with Michelle! It was pure delight.
The diversity was amazing - roses, camellias, gardenias, salvia, dahlia, anthurium, lavender, canna lily, chrysanthemum, gyp. It came together beautifully and smelled amazing!
I think we might make it a new birthday ritual!

Very fitting too that on Michelle placed her flowers on the piano that Chiselhurst Kindergarten founder Miss Anne Clark used to play. We honour the amazing women who came before us, and devoted their life to nurturing our community’s children.

{CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY}
For the last couple of years, and I have participated at Amaroo Environmental Education Centre.
I’m always surprised by the things we find that have blown out of peoples utes on the way to the Kleinton dump, right at the doorstep of a wonderful place where our young people go to learn about caring for the environment. But I’m absolutely infuriated to find waste from the floristry industry, MY industry, like these horrible little plastic single flower preservative sachets. Not just one or two, but heaps of them. The floristry industry needs to work with the environment, not against it! This litter comes from a local flower farm or florist. So if you’re reading this and this is your rubbish, change your practices today. Stop buying single use plastic products and for goodness sake - dispose of your rubbish properly!
In just one hour, our little team of 10 people collected 37kg of recyclables, and 48kg of landfill.
