Lewis Coull - Australian Debut
Wow! This post is why I do this. Long post alert but it’s well deserved and something a lot of players can learn from. Wednesday night Scottish defender Lewis Coull made his Australian football debut for Northcote City FC vs Melbourne City FC u23s.
Lewis was only 19 years old when he contacted us on the 4th of January this year. He was playing in the Scottish highland league at the time and expressed his interest in Australia. We spoke a number of times about the different opportunities and pathways for players such as Australia and America. I spoke about my own journey and how at 19 I went to America on a scholarship. I explained how the American route might be a better option for a 19 year old as moving to Australia to start a new life isn’t an easy process. You have to think about work outside of football, accommodation, bills, living in a new country across the world away from friends and family.
After thinking about the different options Lewis decided he wanted to step outside of his comfort zone and make the move to Australia. A big decision for a young kid I thought at the time. I personally don’t just tell everyone and anyone to make a move to Australia. It needs to be the right fit for the player but ultimately it is the players decision.
Together we created a plan of action and Lewis booked flights to Melbourne for the beginning of July. He never once demanded anything from clubs before he arrived, he paid for his own flights, sorted his own accommodation and simply wanted an opportunity.
Lewis had a good CV and footage so a few clubs showed interest. He decided to sign with Northcote City FC for the remainder of the 2024 season. Still only 19, Lewis arrived and went straight into training with the first team. Within two weeks I got a call from the club saying how impressed they have been with Lewis both on and off the field. A fantastic character to have around the club and he settled in really well.

Michaela played collegiate soccer in America before a spell in Spain. Michaela got in touch with us as she started to look for a new opportunity. Fast forward a couple of months and Michaela is now in Perth, Western Australia after signing for WNPL club UWA Nedlands FC. Michaela has also started a job as a Research Technician.
We still have request from women’s clubs across Australia for this coming season and next season. Get in touch with us today if this is an opportunity you would be interested in.
