Just a girl who notched up 13 years as an authorised marriage celebrant last week.

It’s been 13 years of learning about love and life in ways more rich and rewarding than I could have ever imagined.

13 years of hearing and telling stories and being humbled by the trust and generosity of my couples.

13 years of making new friends, coming to associate songs and locations with the people I shared them with and getting really, really good at pinning buttonhole flowers.

Thank you all for being part of it. Here’s to whatever the next 13 may bring!

Special thanks also to for snapping this at a few weeks ago - both John and Stones have been big parts of my celebrant life!

(Ps - if we’ve crossed paths over the years, feel free to say hi below!)

Lit from within ✨

Nicole and Josh were married on Friday.

They made it official amidst the lush greenery of , surrounded by the love and excitement of their nearest and dearest. Warm spring sunlight came streaming in as laughter spilled out in equal measure.

With behind the lens and a group of family and friends ready to party, the stage was set for a night of celebration - and I’m pleased to say we did exactly that!

Congratulations again, Nicole and Josh. It was pleasure to be part of your happiness.

Weddings are for everyone.

I was delighted when Kathleen and Aaron sent me this photo after their wedding last year, even though the three of us aren’t exactly front and centre.*

But can you see what is?

Laughter.
Engagement.
Connection.

The people in this photo may not be able to remember exactly what I was saying here anymore, but I bet they can tell you how they felt.

That’s what a good ceremony does - it creates a space for everyone, not just the couple, to feel and provides an outlet to express those feelings.

Love, joy, wonder, gratitude and a myriad more.

A meaningful ceremony leaves you feeling fulfilled; like you’ve been part of something transformative.

Because you have.

Weddings are for everyone.

Sweet anticipation...

The moments immediately before a ceremony begins are often as packed with emotion as those that come after. Here, I am letting guests know that Grace is ready to make her entrance.

Simon and his groomsmen, eagerly awaiting her appearance, are all focused on the back of the marquee.

You can see the anticipation in the smiles breaking out on the faces of Simon's best mates, but nowhere is it more apparent than in Simon himself.

It's there in the clasp of his hands, in the way that you can almost still see them rubbing together in the universal symbol for 'let's go'.

It's there in his posture - straight-backed, tall, and firmly at attention.

Most of all, it's there in the smile that has transformed his whole face into a picture of excited joy.

Weddings bring with them a lot of emotion. Whether you're the one getting married, a guest or a vendor, don't be afraid to embrace them - because, more than anything else, it's the way a wedding makes you feel that stays with you long after the day is over.

Oh, hi. It's been a while!

I planned to share this some time ago to mark all the celebrations that go with the end of the year, but time ran away with me. I promise I'm much better at marrying people than I am at social media!

This photo was taken at a dinner my husband and I hosted last year for some of our nearest and dearest.

It was a fantastic party; glamorous and fun and memorable for all the right reasons.

Everyone looked incredible, the room was gorgeous and the food and wine was top notch (two words: BOMBE ALASKA) but the thing that left me on the biggest high was spending time with our loved ones and telling them what they mean to us.

The day after, I realised it was the same thing that makes me love my job as a celebrant so much. In the 12 years that I have been marrying people I have seen a lot of wedding trends come and go but one thing that remains a constant with couples is the importance of acknowledging the relationships that enrich our lives.

In a ceremony, we are granted a window of time in which to stop, reflect on and celebrate what truly matters to us.

To celebrate who truly matters to us.

It’s something the last few years, when events like this were just about impossible, have taught me not to take for granted.

So, my advice today is to go tell someone how you feel about them. Hug them. Split a bombe Alaska with them.

We may not be able to go to weddings every day, but we can celebrate love every day.

Life is short. Love is infinite. Spread it around.

Love and happiness.

These words not only describe the atmosphere in the room on the glorious spring day when Ashley and Sebastian were married, I think it would also be fair to say it sums up the looks on their faces!

There was a palpable air of excitement and emotion as this beautiful pair entered the historic Warrandyte Mechanics Institute together, and the sense of intimacy and community only grew as we reflected on the path Ashley and Sebastian had walked to arrive at this day.

Ashley and Sebastian knew from early on that they wanted their wedding to be not just a celebration of their relationship, but also of the values they share. They put great thought and care into every aspect of the day, honouring the land on which they married, the people in their lives and what marriage means to them.

It was moving, meaningful, relaxed and warm all at once. It was the sort of day that lights you up on the inside and leaves you buzzing long afterwards.

Congratulations, Ashley and Sebastian. May that joy follow you always.

(Also, can we take a moment for these incredible flowers by ? And that wattle against the red curtain - amazing!)

It took more than two years and three date changes but in June this year, Emilie and Nick were finally wed.

It was the most perfect winter day without a breath of wind in the air, almost as if the universe was doing its level best to make up for the delays in getting here.

Their bilingual ceremony embraced their respective backgrounds, beginning with a welcome auf Deutsch to Nick’s family watching on in Germany.

As they stood in front of an arbour lovingly decorated by Emilie’s Mum, we acknowledged and celebrated the path Nick and Emilie had walked to get to this day before they made promises to cherish each other and the relationship they share for the rest of their lives.

After a round of applause that could have been heard across the oceans, they made their way back down the aisle to take part in the same German wedding tradition Nick’s own parents enjoyed many years ago - the cutting of the log (oder einen Baumstamm sägen für die, die Deutsch verstehen).

While we couldn’t have imagined that a pandemic would factor into things when we first started planning their wedding, I’m not going to lie - I loved having the extra 20 months to get to know this warm and welcoming couple (and to keep discussing our favourite German songs, games, football teams and shows!)

Herzlichen Glückwunsch ihr Lieben. It was an honour to stand beside you.

This is how I found James and Bec when I arrived at ahead of their ceremony a few weeks ago.

Relaxed, happy and comfortable in the hotel bar, enjoying a champagne together after taking some photos in the surrounding streets with the fabulous .

They were calm but buzzing; sitting in the sort of contented excitement that comes from knowing absolutely that you love and are loved.

Not long after this photo was taken, we went up to their suite and in front of their closest family, James and Bec promised to continue the love story that had begun ten years to the day earlier. To continue learning with, accepting and loving each other.

It was powerful, moving and oh, so joyous.

Congratulations, Mr and Mrs B.

A stolen moment between Sam and Tom before they wed in front of one very enthusiastic crowd at earlier this year.

It was everything a wedding should be - cheeky, fun, heartfelt, personal, celebratory (so very celebratory!) and a little bit emotional.

I loved every moment of it, just as I did getting to know this gorgeous pair.

Thank you so very much for having me, Mr and Mrs F!

Elegantly sophisticated.

These words perfectly describe Remy and Julia as well as their April Coombe Yarra Valley] wedding.

Remy and Julia were married in the beautiful surrounds of Dame Nellie Melba’s grand old home, surrounded by the people they love most.

Julia was a vision in her Marquise Ateliér] gown and Remy was ever so dapper in a suit by his own eponymous label, REMY].

Everything about the day reflected the thought and care Remy and Julia had put into it. It was emotional, timeless and oh, so stylish!

After months of chats, emails and Zoom calls, it felt like I was marrying dear friends I’d known for years and it was very reluctantly that I said goodbye at the end of the day - but only after grabbing a hug and a photo, first!

Thank you so very much for having me, Mr and Mrs G.

The pre-game.

Whether you’re arriving to your ceremony together or separately, I come to see each of you before everything kicks off.

I typically make this face when I see my couples on the day - while your outfits and grooming undoubtedly adds to the wow factor, the defining element is always, always your excitement and happiness.

It renders everyone stunning.

Once I’ve picked my jaw up from the floor, I’ll give you a run-through of what’s to come and work out if there’s anything you need.

I’ll make sure you’re both feeling calm, comfortable and ready, and then it’s marrying time!

The biggest perk of being a celebrant is not getting to visit beautiful venues, see stunning set ups and having to regularly refresh my cocktail wardrobe*, nice as those things are.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
No, by far the biggest perk is meeting wonderful couples and being invited into their lives. (Yes, I know it sounds terribly clichéd but it’s true).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We form a fast and firm bond in the time we’re working together and it’s always a delight when that bond continues to grow after the wedding.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Within the space of a few months this gorgeous pair, Alvy and Murray, went from being strangers to me to dear friends, and I can’t wait to give them both a big hug very soon!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*ok, the last one technically isn’t a requirement but it’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

💕 We met with a few celebrants when organising our wedding, and the minute we met Koren we just knew we had found the perfect person to marry us! The process was seamless, Koren is so well organised and such a talented writer, the ceremony she created for us was so personal, heartfelt, hilarious, unique and captivating.

On the day, Koren went above and beyond for us, from calming my husband's nerves before the wedding to helping create a guard of honor after the ceremony.

Since our wedding, we cannot discuss the ceremony without one of our friends or family mentioning how much they loved our celebrant. My husband's Aunty told us she wants to get married again just so that she can have Koren - we don't blame her, we wish we could get married all over again with Koren as well.

Thank you so much Koren for creating such a beautiful wedding ceremony for us, I will be recommending you to all my unmarried friends and family, would love to be in the audience next time to witness more of your magic! - Sophie + Ben 💕

Sophie and Ben’s St Kilda wedding last year was a day of sophisticated glamour, high energy and a whole lot of happy tears. (Also quite a few laughs, mainly at Ben’s expense. Sorry, Ben.)

You’ll often hear me say I work with the best couples.

I say it because it’s true.

Thank you for the pleasure of sharing this with you, Sophie and Ben!

If you’ve been here a while you’ll know I am rather* fond of a little film called The Sound of Music. It is a love I’ve nurtured all my life and am now passing on to my children.

It therefore won’t be a revelation that I consider Maria’s wedding dress to be the finest piece of costuming in cinematic history (with just about everything worn by the Baroness - especially the red suit - coming in hot on its heels).

Maria's ivory slubbed silk gown was designed by Dorothy Jeakins and featured a high collar, long sleeves and a gathered train. Simple and elegant, its only adornment are fabric-covered buttons.

I've always wanted my own version of this glorious gown, so when I came across beautiful print of Maria’s Ländler dress recently, I not only ordered it immediately (swipe to see), I also asked Katie if she could sketch for me the bridal gown I’ve loved since I was small.

Katie’s pieces arrived last week and to say I am delighted with them both is an understatement. They will be framed and placed alongside my desk, serving to inspire me as I work on countless other love stories.

Thank you, Katie! And vielen Dank, Fräulein Maria.

Hi. Remember me? It's been a while!

I’m Koren.

Great at baking (and eating the end results thereof), bad at social media. 🙊

I've been making a conscious effort to spend less time on my phone lately .

While I love the connections social media can forge, after the chaos and uncertainty of the last two years I’ve found having to be ‘on’ rather exhausting and have preferred to lurk rather than leverage.

So what have I been doing with all this extra time away from the ‘gram?

I've been:
- having adventures with my family
- lingering over long lunches with friends
- going for long, pre-dawn walks (and feeling very pleased with myself afterwards - just ask me 🤭)
- baking more (the cookbook gets a jolly good workout)
- learning Spanish (my husband particularly *enjoys* the way I enthusiastically comment on every Spanish word I recognise when watching Money Heist)
- restoring furniture (yes, really. Who knew I was handy?)

And, of course, marrying gorgeous people in love.

And it's been grand.

What about you? What has brought a smile (or smiles) to your face lately? Tell me below!

This photo is thanks to and was taken at a very special wedding in April. More to come from this one!

Weddings are a festival of emotions and never more so than during the vows.

I love this photo from Kristina and Brent’s intimate February wedding. As Brent teared up, his beautiful bride lent a steadying arm, prompting a quick comment from Brent (and laughter from everyone else!).

Thank you, Mr and Mrs M, for the privilege of standing with you that day.

The face I made when I realised it's a whole new year tomorrow*. Is it just me or has 2022 snuck up on you, too?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For me, 2021 has held moments of wonder and excitement, sadness and confusion, pride and elation, frustration and disappointment, contemplation and reflection. Sometimes one of these things at a time; at others, several at once.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It had highlights and teachings.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Highlights were things like more time with my family, watching my kids master new skills, baking my way through the cookbook and watching every British crime drama known to man. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was having more time to get to know my couples and savouring every moment of their wedding days when they eventually rolled around. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the teachings? Well, the older I get, the more I appreciate the importance of connection with friends and strangers alike.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's small kindnesses and big hugs; deep chats and long walks; good food and great company.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's laughter shared, letters written, hellos said, support offered and hands held.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is love, in all its forms, showing its face in myriad small ways each and every day.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hope love has been a mainstay of your 2021 and continues to be in the year to come.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you for making it part of mine.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’m often asked what my favourite part of a wedding is and honestly, it changes every day.

But this moment - the moment when you go back down the aisle, giddy with love and joy and high on the knowledge you just told the world that THIS is your person, surrounded by the excitement and elation of those who love you - well, it’s pretty hard to beat.

A little edible and visual sweetness for your Saturday morning.

When I get to a wedding I love sneaking a look at the cake. They’re magic made real with butter, sugar and flour and there's a reason cakes have been at the centre of celebrations for centuries.

A cake is sweet, nourishing and best when shared - what more could you ask for to mark a special occasion?*

*If you're as cake-obsessed as I am, the answer to this is obviously ‘two cakes'.

I love that there is going to be a time, in the not too distant future, when all the measures we've taken to stay well over the last 18 months are nothing but a distant memory. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This photo was taken as Rowan and I waited for Brigette to arrive. When Brig and Rowan sent it to me, they made the same point I have above - that, as strange as a masked wedding photo seems, it is a snapshot of a moment in time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A time we'll tell our grandkids about, of the year (and a bit) when we stayed at home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we wore masks and sanitised like our lives depended on it (because they did). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When weddings and other celebrations were put on hold and parks were populated like never before.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When everything was different, but so many things remained constant.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kindness. Connection. (Demand for toilet paper? I jest.)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But most of all, the bonds of love and family.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I look at this photo, I remember the masks, yes, but most of all I remember the excitement and energy that filled that room. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the smile that was revealed when Rowan lowered his mask at the sight of his bride.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

BRING ON THE LOVE!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As of Friday, weddings in metropolitan Melbourne can resume indoors with 20 fully vaccinated people and outdoors with 50 fully vaccinated people. After so long in lockdown, this news was music to the ears of so many. Just quietly, I'm tipping that weddings in the coming months are going to be very emotional (and not just on the part of the marrying couple!).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

That light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. Thank you to all who've played their part in getting us to this point and a special acknowledgment to those healthcare workers doing the hard yards every day to keep us all safe.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Our Story

I love standing with you as you wait for your partner to arrive and watching the emotions well up in your eyes. I love seeing the joy on your face when you catch sight of your soon-to-be spouse. I love being around love in all its forms – romantic, familial, platonic. Being a celebrant is the best job in the world.
