I’ve been quiet on social media but super busy marrying lots of wonderful couples 🥰🫶🏽

For the new followers, here’s a little bit about myself:

I’m an Authorised Marriage Celebrant based in Perth 📍and available for weddings across Western Australia ☀️

I decided to become a marriage celebrant whilst on maternity leave from my job as a lawyer, as I thought it’d be a fun way to combine my experience with paperwork and legalities with my love for creative writing and public speaking 💫

I recently turned 31 and now have a beautiful (and crazy) 18 month old👩‍🍼

I love a good wine and exploring new wineries! Down south is one of my favourite places to be 🍷

This year is my first year in 20 years I haven’t played basketball! I also like staying fit by netball, yoga, Pilates cycling, and swimming 🏀🧘‍♀️🏊‍♀️🚴🏼‍♀️

Lastly, I’m a big believer that life is short and all things big and small should be celebrated and cherished- it’s for this reason I have a well known reputation amongst friends for planning way too many birthday and social events, so safe to say I know how to plan a good time 🥂

Surprise weddings can be a wonderful and exciting way to celebrate with your guests.

However, to ensure the celebration is legal and binding, take note of the following:

You CAN’T surprise your partner ❌
This is because both parties must freely and willingly consent to the marriage. This consent may be compromised if one party is surprised on the day and could feel pressured or expected to agree to the marriage. Both parties must also complete certain documentation prior to the wedding with the celebrant.

You CAN’T surprise your celebrant ❌
You must give your celebrant at least 1 months notice of the proposed wedding date, which can only be shortened in exceptional circumstances.

You CAN surprise your guests ✅
As long as both parties have completed the required paperwork with their celebrant at least a month in advance, there’s no issue with a couple surprising their guests with a wedding instead of an engagement party, birthday celebration or other event!

Including a celebrant early in your planning is the best way to ensure the celebration is legal AND reflective of your preferences as a couple 🤍

We all want our nearest and dearest with us on our big day, however especially in recent times it’s not always possible for couples to have their special people attend the wedding ceremony.

Here’s a few ideas on how to feel close to your loved ones on the big day:
- photograph or other memorabilia
- Save a seat
- wear something meaningful
- live stream the ceremony
- Light a candle
- Make a toast or mention them in your ceremony or reception speech
- Play a special song

Although optional, rehearsals are included in my fee and can be a good way for the couple to understand how the ceremony will unfold and can help calm the nerves! It also helps myself and others understand the couples preferences to allow smooth running of the day.
