The J&S Drilling Round 3 of the WEST COAST Stabilisers SAWA Sprintcar Series which was run at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday 15th November as part of the massive King of Wings event saw the return of the travelling series to the city track for the first time this season.
Due to the tight race schedule for the event, there was no opportunity to run a qualifying session – it was hot laps only for the teams to adjust to the Motorplex surface and dial their cars in.
Myles Bolger and Jeremy Warren would share the front row for heat 1 with Jeremy getting a great start and jumping to an early lead. Trent Pigdon was on a charge, having started P11 he was up to P7 after just the first lap. Shaun Bradford was also making his way forward from P8 to P4 after two laps. It was great to see the #57 going well after the issues they experienced at Pithara.
But out front it was Jeremy Warren who crossed the line to take the win despite Myles Bolger keeping the pressure on throughout the heat race. Cody Nash finished P3.
Heat 2 would see Daniel Golding and Tom Callaghan on the front row, with the series leader in Ryan Farrell starting from P4. Golding got a good start but unfortunately Gavin Noy spun in the first corner and they would need to do it all again. The subsequent re-start saw Ryan Farrell split the front two through turns 1 and 2 and race into the lead along the back straight. Golding passed him back on the next lap but would come unstuck a lap later with a spin in turn 1. Dan managed to keep it going but fell right back in the field.
Jake Pobjoy then spun a lap later in the same spot and brought the yellows on. Flyin’ Ryan was comfortable out front on the restart with Callaghan and Luke Mewett battling it out for P2, but Mewett was unable to get the bottom line to stick. It was Farrell that took the win.
Jeremy Warren was a big mover in the race, finishing P4 after starting P10, with Cody Nash also making a move up to P5 after starting P9. For young Cody Nash this is only his second 360-LS event, having made it his debut at Pithara and finishing on the podium in P3. Nash was certainly looking comfortable in the 360-LS class.
The final heat race for the night would see Kodi Clayden start on pole with the always fast Trent Pigdon alongside. Rookie Dustin Filgate was set to start behind Trent with the hard charging Jaydee Dack next to him, whilst Ryan Farrell was set to start on the outside of row 4.
Clayden and Pigdon got close at the start with Kodi initially getting to the front but Pigdon dropped to the bottom in turn 3 and managed to get under Kodi and exit turn 4 in the lead. Dustin Filgate was now in P3 but Farrell was chasing them all down.
With Pigdon clear out front, Kodi was up against the wall trying to pass Filgate and Dack soon joined the group which were all battling for the P2 spot. Ultimately it was Pigdon that would claim the win ahead of Filgate and Clayden.
Jeremy Warren would start the King of Wings feature race from pole with Trent Pigdon sharing the front row. Ryan Farrell and Tom Callaghan would line up on the second row, with Cody Nash and Jaydee Dack occupying row 3. It would be hard to pick a winner as any one of these drivers could just as easily grab the win.
The initial start saw Jeremy Warren bog down a little on the inside line which held up those behind whilst Pigdon got a great start with Dack following him closely through the pack with Farrell up to P3. The red lights came just as the leaders crossed the line for the first time however as Brooke Newson took a big tumble in turn 3 after hitting the wall.
Pigdon exploded away in the restart with Dack and Farrell chasing but it all came undone as the #7 right rear tyre went flat after only one more lap, bring on the yellows.
Dack lead Farrell away on the restart with Callaghan closing in fast and going past Farrell with Nash in tow. As Dack came up to lap Carl Della who was coming to terms with a new setup in the Corporeal Health #96 it was Callaghan who seized the opportunity to sneak past and take the lead.
Dack and Nash would then battle hard as they carved their way through the lap cars, with Nash getting the better of Dack. Nash was riding the wall hard in his efforts to catch the #50 of Callaghan who was in his first race with the 360-LS Series this season.
In the end it was Callaghan that claimed the King of Wings ahead of Nash and Dack. Farrell would finish in P4 after winning the first two rounds of the season. Kodi Clayden finished P5 after starting P8, and it was a great finish for Dan Golding in his first Sprintcar hit out in quite a while, finishing P6 after starting P10.
For Tom Callaghan it was a great return to speedway racing after a reasonable break, and his first 360-LS race the small family team have taken the crown at the King of Wings.
The 360-LS drivers now get to enjoy a little break before the Prestige Fibreglass Products Round 4 of the series which forms part of the USA vs WA Sprintcar Muster and is set to be run on Friday 2nd January 2026.
