This is my nephew’s street-style stall, and the satays come from my sister’s company.

Just walking down the street from my mum’s house, you will find stalls of street food selling everything from mee rebus (Melaka laksa/soup, sort of) to all sorts of fritters like pisang goreng (banana fritters), jackfruit, sweet potatoes, yam, and deep-fried fishcakes (keropok lekor) 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. You need ten stomachs for this every afternoon for snacking! 🤣🤣🤣 Believe me when I say that it’s all delicious!”

As you wander through the site, you’ll discover various sections of the tunnels, some of which have been widened for tourists. It’s hard to imagine how people lived and operated in such cramped spaces! The tunnels are filled with fascinating exhibits, including b***y traps that were ingeniously designed to defend against enemy troops. From bamboo sticks to swinging blades, these traps demonstrate the clever tactics created by the Viet Cong fighters.

Visiting this site is a powerful experience that brings to life the stories of those who fought for their beliefs and showcases the incredible ability to come up with creative solutions to problems and effective ways of doing things that emerged during one of history’s most chaos periods.

The Mekong Delta, often referred to as Vietnam’s rice bowl, is a stunning area filled with rivers, swamps, and islands that are super important for the country’s farming and economy. Although these days, climate change has become a major issue in the region.

Historically, the Mekong Delta has been a melting pot of different cultures because of its prime location along the Mekong River, which flows through several countries before hitting the South China Sea. People have lived here for thousands of years, with signs of early communities going way back. Over time, this area has seen the rise and fall of various empires, including the Khmer Empire and the Vietnamese Nguyen Dynasty.

This was my geography lesson back in high school! 😂😂
